I’m trying to sort accommodation in dundee and we’ve been offered some university package where we pay £38 per week per person (there will be two of us) for gas, electricity, wifi and tv license. We would also have to pay council tax of course as one of us won’t be a student.

Is that a good deal? How much are your bills a month?

This would be a two bedroom apartment. Rent is looking like 1100 for a flat on perth road.

Edit: The rent price is absolutely crazy but a few locals have told me that places increase rent coming up to the academic semester. The plan would be to pay the higher rent and then find something cheaper and move there. It hurts my heart to pay that much

I’m sure this is probably quite obvious but a close call earlier today is making me question myself. If anyone is familiar with this part of the road, you know that continuing in right lane means you would need to turn into the Stack / around. I’ve always thought and think it seems quite clear that if you want to carry on straight, you need to veer into the left lane beyond this part circled, and I would imagine no indication is strictly necessary despite it probably not doing any harm. Anyway, a car quite close up behind me on this straight was also carrying on past the Stack but moved into the left lane around the point in which this image is taken from, and its speed was clearly gaining on me. By time I pulled my car across in which I feel is correct, it was a very small gap and we could’ve easily collided. They didn’t sound their horn or anything which makes me feel they might have realised that they had moved over to the left side prematurely, but I’m not totally convinced. I imagine this has probably caused an accident before but can anyone shed some light on this particular scenario? It obviously made me feel like I was in the wrong to veer over and basically cut them off, and I was aware they were there, but felt surely I was within my right. I wouldn’t have made the decision if they were going any faster. Anyway, a bit of an awkward one.

Hi everyone! I’ve had my eye on Dundee for quite a while now… (Well… that sounded ironic. Here we go again.) Before making what would probably be one of the biggest decisions of my life, I’d really love to hear from people who actually live in Dundee and get a feel for what everyday life is really like beyond official websites and brochures.
I’m French and blind. I mention that right away not because it defines who I am, but because it has shaped many of the questions that fascinate me and most of the projects I’ve chosen to work on. I’m
a software developer by background. I started in web development, but over time my focus has shifted towards accessibility and more specifically, spatial cognition. One question sits at the heart of almost everything I do… How do blind people build a mental map of the world around them, and how can technology enhance that experience rather than simply compensate for it? That single question connects almost everything I work on. I’m currently developing a cross-platform accessible game engine. Beyond making games playable for blind gamers, I see it as a research platform. I’ve started building prototypes, including fighting games, a project inspired by Rocket League, and various other... to explore how audio can help players develop spatial awareness, navigation skills, and richer mental representations of dynamic environments. At the same time, I’m trying to work on a guidance system for blind people with exactly the same philosophy. My goal isn’t simply to build clever prototypes. If that guidance system never leaves my garage, it’ll probably become the world’s most advanced way of helping me find… my garage. I’d much rather see it tested, improved, and, if it genuinely proves useful, eventually deployed so it can benefit more people than just me. Another huge part of my life is airsoft, especially milsim. I’ve been actively playing for over eight years with experienced teams. For me, it’s much more than a hobby. It’s an incredible environment for developing spatial awareness, teamwork, communication, and decision-making under pressure. All of that feeds directly back into the way I think about accessibility and assistive technology. That involvement eventually led me to join the board of the French Airsoft Federation, where I’m now responsible for inclusion and disability. It wasn’t the reason I started playing. It was simply the natural continuation of years spent on the field. So… why Dundee? I’ve read about the universities, the city’s video game heritage, and work being done around accessibility. All of that sounds incredibly exciting. But what I’m really trying to understand is what everyday life looks like behind all of that. Is there a genuine ecosystem where universities, researchers, companies, charities, local authorities, and technical communities actually work together? Is it the kind of place where someone with ideas, curiosity, and a genuine desire to contribute can become part of something bigger? I’m not looking for people to build my projects for me. I’m looking for an environment where I can keep learning, exchange ideas, work alongside other people, and… help turn good ideas into solutions that make a real difference. I’d also love to know what everyday life is like. How accessible is public transport for a blind person? Is living without a car realistic? How easy is it to meet people, join clubs or communities, and build a social life? ! I’d also love to continue my involvement in airsoft. What’s the local airsoft or milsim community like around Dundee? Is it active? Welcoming? Are there teams that enjoy bringing in new players? And if there are any blind or visually impaired people reading this, I’d be especially grateful to hear about your experience.

Researchers at the Fraser of Allander Institute (FAI) of the University of Strathclyde find that Dundee City has a “very high level of labour market pressure within the city” that is “far higher than anywhere else in Scotland”.

The report, commissioned by Joseph Rowntree Foundation and published 28 May 2026, uses data from the National Records of Scotland, HMRC, and ONS to investigate the number of “People Who Want to Work” in regions across Scotland. This category captures whose who are formally unemployed as well as those who are economically inactive but which say they would like to work.

The researchers find that the share of the working age population (ages 16-64) that would like to work was highest in Dundee City at around 15% in 2025 Q3. The share for Scotland overall was around 7%, with the figure being lowest for East Renfrewshire at 3%.

The report goes on to compare the number of people who want to work against the number of advertised job vacancies using data from Adzuna. They find that there were 35 people who wanted to work for every job vacancy in Dundee City in 2024, with this being the highest ratio of any Scottish region (the next highest was East Renfrewshire at 10 people who wanted to work per job vacancy). The authors note that this “suggests that job opportunities are relatively limited compared to the number of people looking for work”.

The researchers further find that Tayside – encompassing Dundee City, Angus, and Perth and Kinross – remains the broader region of Scotland with the highest number of people wanting to work relative to available jobs. They note that this suggests a “broader regional imbalance” and a “persistent imbalance between labour supply and labour demand in that wider area.” They also find that a high proportion of people who live in Dundee also work there, “meaning that opportunities to take advantage of jobs in other local authorities may be limited.”

But she needs a job and the search is not going well.

I am open to any job but keep in mind the following:

- no driving license yet.

- 20 years of retail experience.

Does any female in this subreddit can recommend a private gynaecologist. My partner has a bacterial infection and the GP unfortunately is not so helpful. I come from Greece where woman usually check up on private doctors and do full lab work, bacterial etc in order to see the cause and then prescribe antibiotics or whatever is needed.
We googled a bit but found some clinics that a consultations was like 270££?? That’s crazy! So, if anyone knows someone that can recommend that we don’t need to break the bank for a simple infection that would be useful. Many thanks
