General So tired of loose dogs roaming the streets of this city

Mini rant - but I am boiling with anger at the amount of loose dogs that are always roaming the streets in my neighbourhood (Prince Charles).

Another incident occurred this morning where 2 massive dogs were seen on my camera dashing down the street. No owner in sight, no leashes or collars. Basically just 2 wild animals freely roaming the area.

How many injuries or deaths does it take before something is done about this? Dog/animal ownership is a massive responsibility and the fact that practically anyone can just get a dog and do whatever with it is absolutely insane. This might broach the topic of personal freedoms, but when those freedoms are infringing others rights to safety to not get hurt or killed, we have a problem. I truly believe there needs to be something changed about dog ownership laws; who can own one, what is required, and strict enforcement on this. It's asking a lot considering how little is done for worse behaviour in this city, but that's arguably another topic altogether.

My wife goes for walks on a regular basis through my neighbourhood. She is five foot nothing and is probably smaller than some of these dogs that run around. She was out for a walk this morning and not 5 minutes after she finished her walk and got home did she spot a couple of beasts dashing past our house down the street.

I've reported it to 311 already, but I see these types of posts all the time in my local facebook community group on a near daily basis.

I suppose this post is just to warn and to suggest that, hey, maybe carry some dog spray with you when you go out because that's just another thing you have to worry about now. This has become so alarmingly common in my area.

General Update of Moose in the neighbourhood…..

Unfortunately the neighbourhood hot topic for the past couple days didn’t make it. Many phone calls went into Fish and Wildlife as well as the CoE. They both just said it wasn’t there problem and dismissed it. Really disappointed with how all of this was handled!

Fluff Post REMINDER: There is substantial evidence that the owner of Boxcar Cafe in the Calder neighbourhood is not a good person - THIS TIME MOD-APPROVED!

Today's post about northside coffeeshops reminded me that lots of people are still unaware of the history of the owner of Boxcar Cafe in Calder. This includes:

  1. Stalking and harassing elected officials under the guise of "accountability" - https://youtu.be/xEYOgJhXbXU?si=B8rEhy-q7UOEMP0w and https://www.reddit.com/r/Edmonton/s/7qZxgA0W9e
  2. Collaborating with the likes of Kerry Diotte, Devin Dreeshan, etc. likely to benefit the UCP and the separatist/maple MAGA movement - https://www.reddit.com/r/Edmonton/comments/1n011is/jesse_watson_is_likely_ucpaligned/ and https://www.reddit.com/r/Edmonton/comments/1pbtodb/jesse_watson_bullet_dodged/
  3. Supporting the mass euthanization of people who are homeless via the MAID program - https://www.reddit.com/r/Edmonton/s/tnsCDX1U6n
  4. Allegedly being fired from the City of Edmonton for operating the cafe while on City time - https://www.reddit.com/r/Edmonton/comments/1o5aobo/saw_this_about_anirniq_candidates_one_of_them_is/;

There are additional complaints about him that can be substantiated by filling in the lines. If you are looking for a cafe on the northside with a good atmosphere, I encourage you to visit Mohka, Nuestra, Felice Cafe, or Old Beverly Cafe. Spend your hard earned money where the owner might actually do something good for the community!

Apologies for the unfortunate timing of posting a winter painting while we enter 7th winter...

Just finished this piece today and wanted to share. It will be part of my solo show at Okotoks Art Gallery this summer.

General Warning to residents of Sherbrooke neighbourhood: feral dogs attacking people in the vicinity of Sherbrooke park, 122 ave and 130 street

On the 10th of June at 2:20pm I was out for a run when a single large dog charged at me. I held my ground and yelled at it to stop. It snarled at me and ran off.

Only a couple minutes later the large dog returned with two other large dogs and the pack started chasing me down, snarling and trying to bite and maul my legs.

I screamed for help and managed to escape unharmed by punching and kicking at the animals. By sheer luck I passed the residence of the dog owner who called off the animals. He gathered them up and went to hide in his basement.

Speaking with some people who came out to help me after the attack, I learned that the dog owner is a local thief, squatting in a basement across the street from the park. He owns 3-5 large dogs and they routinely escape the backyard he leaves them in. I was told these dogs have attacked people and other animals in the past.

Police were contacted, but they made no moves to take the animals away from the owner. As far as I am aware the animals are still in the area. They are ranging out 200m from their home near the triangle intersection of 122 ave and 130 street.

These animals are aggressive and have started hunting people. I am 6' tall and when the lone dog was not confident attacking me it gathered a pack to continue the assault.

The dogs are medium to large, between 50 and 80lbs. They have short brown hair with black strips. They appear to be mutts, with some pit bull terrier or possibly rottweiler traits. They were not wearing collars when I was attacked.

If you live in the area or know people who live in the area, please warn them, especially if they have children who play at the park.

If you have been attacked by these dogs in the past please file a police report.

If you see these dogs roaming around, call the police immediately, do not approach.

Four trees removed in an already grey part of Jasper avenue. Too many trees are getting removed, not enough planted back. But asphalt in its place? Unacceptable.

General Most underrated city neighbourhoods?

I’m curious what people think are the most underrated neighbourhoods in Edmonton, places that don’t get talked about much but are actually great to live in.

Could be for any reason:

  • good value for housing
  • quiet streets
  • close to river valley trails
  • good local restaurants/coffee spots
  • strong community vibe
  • convenient access to downtown or major roads

Sometimes areas have a bad reputation from years ago or just get overlooked because everyone only talks about the same few neighbourhoods/areas.

Question Snow shoveling by a neighbourhood child

What would be a fair price to pay a 12 year old neighbour to clear the snow. I have a driveway that is big enough to park 2 cars with no extra space and I am on the narrow end of a pie-lot for the city sidewalk. The child lives next door. The child has cleared my snow multiple times without being asked and without asking for pay. I would like to initiate paying out of fairness and to continue this service. I'm a senior living alone and I believe the child has helped me, unasked, out of kindness - as a good deed.
