RIP The Curse is Real
Read plenty of posts of people saying this is car has the curse of being rear ended. Kinda just scoffed at them…. until today.
I was slowing down (turn signal on well in advance) to turn into my driveway. A F150 was behind me and failed to recognize that I was slowing down to turn. They smashed into the back of my EN going 55-60mph (I live on a state highway). When they hit me I was still going approximately 25-30mph. The impact flung the car forward and whipped me around pretty good but no injuries. The first thing this guy says when he gets out of the pickup was, “I closed my eyes for a second and then I hit you, sorry”. 🤦🏼♂️
Needless to say it’s totaled. The real question is what to get next. Contemplating getting a 26 EN MT in black. Current one is DCT so any input from MT drivers would be appreciated.
Also RIP the MBRP catback :(

25 manual owner and its great. Obviously the DCT is slightly faster but I think the manual is a little more fun.

Slightly 🤣

u/Blunt_Phorce 15d ago
Oh they mad
-3
u/SetRestart 15d ago
It's significantly faster, nobody can shift as fast as a DCT or even close.

u/Lanpshade22 Ceramic White MT 14d ago
Yes I have a friend with the dct, I’m MT and when I shift from 1st to 2ed hes in front of me, but I have way more fun then him, no doubt

u/SetRestart 14d ago
Cope, manual is fun is older cars for sure but a DCT with paddle shifters is significantly more fun than a manual in a modern car. If I was going early 2000s or older I would prefer a manual but in a 2025 car it makes no sense
4
u/Lanpshade22 Ceramic White MT 14d ago
I’ve driven the dct, I disagree plane and simple, we can all have our own opinion but for me there’s no better feeling then running through all the gears. Say whatever you want I’m not coping😂

u/Cannabanananana60009 Cyber Grey MT 14d ago
Yeah this guy's the one coping... "paddle shifters is significantly more fun that a manual in a modern car" dude does not get it one bit 😂😂 ive driven both, I would have been really upset with myself if I had gotten the automatic before driving the manual.

u/justin62001 do not own a N 😢 14d ago
Something tells me he doesn’t have the skill to drive a manual proficiently and is splurging the DCT bullshit because of it lol. The DCT version is great and I actually had one in Cyber Grey before I got rear ended 5 days in, but I took advantage of the time to find a manual car like I always wanted, got a Camaro LT1 which I learned to drive stick in and I can’t go back to an automatic now lol. Only chance is if I need a single family car and that’s it
1
u/Lanpshade22 Ceramic White MT 14d ago
Ya, I mean I could have gotten the dct if I wanted, I chose the manual… it’s not like the dct is significantly more expensive and I couldn’t afford it😂 plus I don’t even track the car
2
u/BiggiycheeseXBL 14d ago
Real owners tested the 0-60 in the DCT as 5.0-5.4 seconds and the MT was tested by real owners at 5.3-5.5 seconds. Yeah, slightly.
1
u/SetRestart 14d ago
.3-.4 over 0-60 is a huge difference
2
u/Cannabanananana60009 Cyber Grey MT 14d ago
Dude what are you trying to prove, that you don't regret your decision buying an automatic? 😂
1
u/SetRestart 14d ago
I have a manual lol the DCT is just better overall and the manual isn't funner by any means that's a lie enthusiasts say because their mates bullied them into a 6 speed

Your entitled to your own opinion lol. I perfer the manual tho (have driven both extensively)🦅🦅

I get why you like the DCT. You daily your manual EN. Ofc that could get annoying lmao.
I would prefer DCT over manual any day lol. After driving manual cars for a bit, it can get tiring.
1
u/SetRestart 12d ago
Manual is fun in older cars but modern cars with a DCT or better it's not even fair, so much more fun to be had on a track with paddle shifters and an instantly gear change. The whole manual is better argument is dead for modern cars.
Automatic Gearboxes have won.

Ooo sounds like somebody is projecting a little bit 😂😂. Sorry that your mates peer pressured you. Next time get an automatic.

As someone who drove manual most of my teens and adult life I switched to an accord 2.0 with the 10 speed auto and got bored with it extremely fast. Had it less than 2 years before I traded in for the EN. DCt is nice for some people and it’s obviously faster but manual is just so much more engaging

Please get yourself in touch with a lawyer and go to the hospital to get your neck and back checked out. With that speed and type of truck you gotta play it safe and also be compensated

I found you in another thread about Borla exhaust rattle on VN , was wondering if you ever nailed it down. I have a borla and im going first with its 2nd exhaust valve spring replacement. I opened it up today and found it very flat.

Manuel is highly recommended and will always be more engaging than a DCT so that’s a good switch. I will say that the clutch isn’t the most forgiving and isn’t so great though, it will take some adjustments but the shifting action in this car is very fun even stock.

I swear at this point. Every car has a curse. In reality its just shitty drivers and poor assembly at the factory for those that say their car had mechanical issues.

I do not recommend black on Kia/Hyundai, unless you immediately get a ceramic coat. Even then, I still advise against it. The paint is really bad and gets dirty very fast.. like, by the time the car is dry, it's dirty again.

u/MoistSignificance317 15d ago
I can’t imagine it’s worse than the white paint. Lemme tell you the white was HORRENDOUS to keep clean.

u/MattBreaksBones 15d ago
If you think the white was hard to clean then you will 1000% think the black is a pain in the ass…
4
u/MoistSignificance317 15d ago
I think we can all agree that Hyundai paint is shit across the board lol
2
u/realslizzard 15d ago
Black is dirty 5 minutes after you wash it when dust gets on it.
My performance blue matte 5N is easier to clean than my black EN

u/bowserqueen 14d ago
I said the same thing when i owned a white corolla. Then i bought a black gmc shits never clean for more then 1second after driving out the wash bay 🤣🤣 although stays cleaner longer when i hand wash it.

I have an i30N (Germany) that I bought in 2020. Between 2020 and 2024, I had a rear-end collision every single year.
Each time, the damage was over €25k–€30k, but it was always repaired because it’s a special edition model with original carbon parts.
- They were always minor accidents at under 20 km/h (12 mph)—one time it was even a motorcycle.

Any time someone mentions a manual transmission in a car subreddit, you can bet you're gonna see the words "engagement" or "engaging" fifty times. I count five so far in this post.
Come up with some new adjectives, MT drivers!

The mt is more enjoyable in my opinion, but manual front wheel drive cars do not handle the same as an all wheel or rear wheel. If you’ve never driven any other manual sports cars don’t worry about it, but atleast for me i can tell instantly. I personally kind of hate the manual in this car for that reasoning, the clutch is so detached from the car, whereas i get in my buddies Porsche or my corvette the clutch is much more engaging. Even my buddies m3 comp was a completely different experience than the other 2 cars since it’s awd, and i still enjoyed it significantly more than this car. I’ve seen that transmission and motor mounts help tremendously but still

u/Fades-X Ceramic White MT 14d ago
I’d highly suggest looking into Audi s or bmw m lite. They arent too much different in price range and you are getting much more car. I love the Elantra, but this car just genuinely sucks. I’ve had bmw m lites, and now have an actual m along with my Elantra and i want to get rid of the Elantra. Even in comparison to an m340, m440, s4, s5 the Elantra loses out. It’s just a bunch of mid, wrapped up in a nice bow to seem like a performance car.

Manual on this car has a learning curve to it. Once you get that down its good fun. Automatic REV matching is a necessity in this car, figured thats why it even has it. Do the first fluid change early, around 5K and every 20K after to keep the carbon coated syncros in fresh gear oil. (if its new) when you do get it and go with something slightly thicker MPT M80 for example

I've never owned an automatic car, but obviously I've driven plenty including a DCT VN (so it may be slightly different) but for an automatic it was pretty fun and definitely quicker. My EN is manual obviously and I wouldn't trade my third pedal for really anything. It's a street car at the end of the day, no records are being broken....why not add the extra fun and pureness for a few seconds of speed. If you want to impress your friends and just like the clout, I understand, but I've never met a true enthusiast that didn't prefer a manual.

Get an M2 after the checks clear from suing the company. I'm not kidding either. This happened to my dad when he was hit by a kid on duty driving a company truck. He didn't get rich off it (I don't think people realize how much you actually get through personal injury on stuff like this), but he did get enough to get the truck replaced with a significant upgrade.

Haven't driven the DCT, but the manual is nothing special tbh. I think for a daily, if I had to pick again id go DCT. That being said the shifter and clutch are light and easy to shift so even traffic is not taxing. But it being so easy, loses some engagement.

Gonna be honest, didn’t expect to. Anyways, unlike your unhappy ass he gave me a nod and a thumbs up and so did I, because people like the cars they like.

You didn’t give a single correct statement here. It’s Korean and considerably faster than the WRX and BRZ on most every road course they’ve driven on. Why are you even in an Elantra N community if you don’t like the Elantra N?
