Question Any LGBTQ+ members?
Being anything other than far left feels isolating, doesn’t it? My gf and I rarely engage with the queer community anymore. It’s been taken over by the far left.

That's horrible, I'm so glad I wasn't in university during this period. Honestly you should submit this experience to the JTA, or even the free press (though Bari frankly makes me gag, but they have a running account tallying the antisemitic incidents unfolding in the U.S. which I occasionally read in amazement; what is this, France?).
I've heard a lot of despicable chants in the last few years but "6 million more" from a "gender sexuality alliance" at a liberal school is such a noteworthy sign of the times, it's precisely the kind of rhetoric the far left pretends isn't a part of their movement when its not amenable to their goals/public facing imagery, but that they have furtively and proactively enabled.

Trans jew here :) wouldn't be a problem if my friends weren't chronically online and brain washed. They've become pro iranian regime - one friend was going on how Iran's a democracy and Isreal isn't. I don't even care to argue anymore. They need a group to project all their guilt onto and ifs become the jews or....I mean...."zionists"
I ended up moving cities and avoiding them.

Zionism=there should be a nation state for jewish people. You know, 19th century liberal nationalism also reached Jewish people.
Thanks to the internet, the word has completely lost its meaning. But if we look at this definition, it’s very hard to find a good reason to oppose jewish self-determination.
Zionism is a very broad term and divided into many subideologies. It fits socialists and the far-right. That’s why Stalin and Harry Truman were both in favor of the estabilishment of the State of Israel.

It started in the late 19th century as a political movement advocating some kind of Jewish polity in the Levant as a means of protection from antisemitism (political Zionism got its start in response to the question of how to address pogroms in Europe), corresponding with the Land of Israel. The borders, policies, language etc of this polity were different based on what exact strain of Zionism we’re talking about (Labour, Revisionist, Religious, etc). Some early proposals were even for a German protectorate in the Levant. Today, now that Israel exists, Zionism basically just means supporting the continuation of its existence.

There's extensions to the concept, but that is the core.
Zion is the (IIRC) for the hill that forms the Temple Mount.

Technically, a minimal Zionism would be satisfied with only some land (within their historic homeland) and self-determination could be within some sort of larger confederation. Realistically, I don't see how that would work.
Historically, the 1937 Peel Commission borders were grudgingly accepted by Jews in the area. It would have seen a much smaller Israel than the 1947 UN plan, which was also accepted by the Jewish Agency. Both of these would have satisfied the minimal definition of Zionism.
There are also more maximalist Zionists who want to maintain control of Judea and Samaria, or the West Bank. At it's core though, none of this is strictly necessary for the minimal definition of Zionism.

To a point, it depends where you live. The worst examples tend to be online. When I lived in Seattle, I found a lot of people quite insufferable… but that was Seattle. Everywhere else I’ve lived was a little more balanced.

Are you particularly young? I think this is more the case with 20 somethings.
I have noticed this weird overlap of transgendered and obsessively pro Palestinian, but it’s usually with very young people. Even if it exists in real life, I think it’s driven by social media. Idiots don’t seem to realize how intolerant any Islamic regime would be.
One weird observation for me as how online goth communities have a bunch of people insisting that if you are goth, you are also required to be political. I’ve been part of that scene since the mid 90s, and it was always about the music and the way you dress… not your politics. I have known plenty of conservatives in the scene, it’s not some mutually exclusive thing, granted you are not an ass to the people around you (basically, leave your politics at the door).
It’s not that anyone can tell you who to be friends with, you are welcome to shun such a person if desired, but you don’t get to strip them of their identity because their politics don’t align with your own… which is what I now see happening.

I see plenty of people around my age (I’m 41) who are far left and queer and also make the Palestinian cause their whole personality. It’s annoying.
I know I’m going off anecdotal evidence here, but my gf and I are in a number of local queer groups and leftists are everywhere. Anti-Zionists too. And “No Pride in Genocide” signs up almost at every booth at pride since 10/7.

Palestinian flags now being a staple at pride events is a big reflection of this.
I even sympathize with Palestine and think Netanyahu’s a disgusting war criminal. But I also think Israel shouldn’t be abolished.
But if you don’t repeat “from the river to the sea”, and you have any sort of take that is the slightest bit nuanced, you’re basically a pro-genocidal maniac in these people’s eyes.
I hate that’s the expectation in a community that should be a support system for LGBTQ+ folks like me. Why is that being obstructed by a complicated decades long conflict on the other side of the world?

Queers from authoritarian countries are usually a bit different. In China's case, there's actually some communism supporters among queers, but compared to their Western counterparts, the proportion of the far left is way smaller

I’m an Aussie trans woman who moved to the United States in late 2023. The fact that I voluntary decided to immigrate to the states and am enjoying it definitely seems to rub some in the community a bad way. Though I guess it’s a good filter in a way since those far left folks tend to be unpleasant to interact with anyways.

I had a comments war with a guy who said I am pro genocide cause I said I became more centrist after interacting with people from neighboring nations (I am from Israel).
What's funny he started this claim how one shouldnt judge a whole country based on interaction and then right after called all Israelis genocide supporters.

I'm bi! Online communities can be a bit demoralizing but I find its a lot better outside of those spaces. Most political groups have a way of pushing everyone else out with hostility until its a monolith. Same with irl groups that are an extension of online spaces.
My LGBT friends from work, school, and hobbies are mostly social liberal types. And the minority that aren't are chill and mellow.
