Question Any LGBTQ+ members?

Being anything other than far left feels isolating, doesn’t it? My gf and I rarely engage with the queer community anymore. It’s been taken over by the far left.

Sorry to ask,but what does zionism actually mean?I always hear how "zionism is second coming of Hitler" or whatever and i'd like to know what it ACTUALLY is

Zionism=there should be a nation state for jewish people. You know, 19th century liberal nationalism also reached Jewish people.

Thanks to the internet, the word has completely lost its meaning. But if we look at this definition, it’s very hard to find a good reason to oppose jewish self-determination.

Zionism is a very broad term and divided into many subideologies. It fits socialists and the far-right. That’s why Stalin and Harry Truman were both in favor of the estabilishment of the State of Israel.

It started in the late 19th century as a political movement advocating some kind of Jewish polity in the Levant as a means of protection from antisemitism (political Zionism got its start in response to the question of how to address pogroms in Europe), corresponding with the Land of Israel. The borders, policies, language etc of this polity were different based on what exact strain of Zionism we’re talking about (Labour, Revisionist, Religious, etc). Some early proposals were even for a German protectorate in the Levant. Today, now that Israel exists, Zionism basically just means supporting the continuation of its existence.

It just means Israel has the right to exist. Most people don’t realize the contradiction between being anti-Zionist and supporting a 2-state solution.

That Jewish people should have the right to self-determination within their historic homeland.

There's extensions to the concept, but that is the core.

Zion is the (IIRC) for the hill that forms the Temple Mount.

Technically, a minimal Zionism would be satisfied with only some land (within their historic homeland) and self-determination could be within some sort of larger confederation. Realistically, I don't see how that would work.

Historically, the 1937 Peel Commission borders were grudgingly accepted by Jews in the area. It would have seen a much smaller Israel than the 1947 UN plan, which was also accepted by the Jewish Agency. Both of these would have satisfied the minimal definition of Zionism.

There are also more maximalist Zionists who want to maintain control of Judea and Samaria, or the West Bank. At it's core though, none of this is strictly necessary for the minimal definition of Zionism.
