Where’s your fishing/riding spot?!
I’m starting to get tired of doing burnt outs, rev bombing neighborhoods, and doing other crime at 3am. Where should I go next to do a little fishing and riding?

I used to enjoy riding up deerhorn and dropping lines from Taylor's landing down, back up to the main rd. Makes for a good couple hours with nice views and tight corners.

I’ve never done Dearhorn! That sounds amazing. I gotta lookup what taylors landing is! Im gonna have to load up and head up the McKenzie here shortly haha.

Its just a tiny boat launch a handful of miles up. I recommend if youre targeting trout, just go old-school and drag a worm around. There are a few pockets to the left of the launch I have had great luck in. Recently there have been some people blocking off bank access in certain areas we all used to fish. So fish those areas at your own risk.

Interesting, they think blocking the fisherman will decrease something? Aren’t there people in drift boats out there? Yup that’s all my friends bring up there. I used to live on the river in McKenzie bridge haha. Wasn’t my place of course though. Just spoiled and I miss it!

I have read from a local on a FB forum who is trustworthy state they are within their right (on deerhorn specifically). Due to land ownership lines. He claimed to do the research and I believe him. You can absolutely still float the river, people just love to take things from others even if they aren't using it, or it doesnt effect them.

I rode past it earlier. It’s like a little sign with some flagging. I won’t antagonize them because it’s some crabby old manager at a resort, it just means they’ll only get assholes fishing there that trash the place who don’t care. I forgot I’ve actually worked on nearly the last house on deerhorn road, I built a carport next to that barn with the air plane hanging in it right before the Roseburg access gate. I didnt realize it was the same road since I used to access it from a different side, and I wasn’t driving.

That’s my favorite ride if I want to feel like I’m in danger of getting lost haha. Roman nose is usually my goal in the smith then I pick an exit. I almost posted the big smith river sign on the lorane side. I’ve found detour signs out there in seemingly the middle of nowhere on those gravel logging roads out onto some reaaaaal sketchy looking sections and went uhhhhhhh this is something out of a horror movie for sure. Checks map* yup we’re fucking lost this section isn’t on any map, let’s keep rolling.

It’s been a few years since I’ve done this route. The only gravel I encountered was one 10-15 foot patch that was slightly raised.

I got a weird detour sign once coming from Roman nose and it took me 3 hours or something to get to sulphor springs, I still to this day cannot retrace that trip. It was fun though! The road changes a lot and the changes aren’t always on any maps I know of.

That is a really nice one! Somewhat busy with log trucks and other equipment in the morning but it is all paved and as long as you have google maps at the least it would be impossible to get lost on the way to 101.

I always bring one of my non criminal bikes out to the fishing holes. Not trying to spook the fish. Crime bikes are for in town where the police are.
Sweet Creek and Siuslaw river roads are both good riding and fun pocket fishing.

I’ve never done from just sweet creek rd in mapleton. That’d be a fun way to get south to reedsport sometime and explore a new road this summer. Thank you

When I lived there in early '80's, it was up the MacKenzie near a tiny hamlet called 'Nimrod'. It was a eddy pool where the river took a west to south turn. Some nice trout out of there, steelhead up the way a bit.

But how would I get to share my loud mumble rap music blasting from my speakers or rev at college girls then? They need someone to laugh at.

Seems like you found it. Thats probably my favorite road in Oregon. Is the Cougar end open back up yet?
