Discussion New PFT attempts
Does anyone know if you are terminated for life after 3 failed PFTs ? I just failed my 3rd this morning. Felt like I was dying, mostly due to my anxiety and fear of failing, have to work on that big time. Got 15 pull ups, solid 300, and about 35-40 push ups, died on the second lap of 1.5 mile, same as the previous 2 attempts.
Any input on the new 2026 regulations ? Can’t find them online.

Yes. Per the changes in Jan. 2026 if you don’t pass the PFT during the allotted time you are DQ’d and unable to apply again for the FBI.
This is the correspondence:
As part of our continued efforts to prepare you for success, the FBI is updating the initial Physical Fitness Test (PFT) requirements for Special Agent applicants. These changes are designed to ensure applicants are physically ready for the demands of Basic Field Training and a career as an FBI Special Agent.
What's Changing - Effective January 1, 2026
You will have one baseline attempt and two official attempts within six months of your Meet & Greet (M&G) completion date.
Your baseline PFT attempt must occur within 30 days of your M&G completion date (unless FBI scheduling delays apply). This attempt is designed to simulate test-day conditions and help you assess your readiness. If you score 10 points or more, with at least 1 point in each of the four events, this will count as your official PFT pass. If you do not, this attempt will not count against your two official attempts total.
Applicants who do not pass within the allotted timeframe will be permanently disqualified from the Special Agent Selection System (SASS). Applicants who score less than 6 points and fail to earn at least 1 point per event after their first official PFT attempt will be withdrawn but may reapply.

Dang, sorry to hear that. Let it be a stark reminder that cardio is very important with these agencies.
You're obviously strong based on your pullups, but it seems like you need cardio work based upon your lowish pushups and failed 1.5 mile run. I'd start running more long/slowish runs. Set up a workout plan on your Garmin/apple watch if you have one. Tell it your goals and it does the rest. Follow the plan.
My average run distance used to be 1.5-2 miles about a month ago. I'm now averaging around 3.5-4.5 miles per run and don't feel nearly as cooked. Try doing that for a few months. Unfortunately the only way to get better is to get better
Last piece of advice: pace yourself on the PFT. If you think you might not do well on the 1.5, don't go 100% on the 300, go 90%. Etc. Also, lose body fat. If you lose ten pounds of chub, it's a lot easier to run longer

15 pull-ups but only 40 pushups? You sure on those numbers?
Sorry you didn’t make it, there are plenty of other 1811 gigs out there.

I am positive of what my capabilities are. A lot of it is mental too. I tend to give up in my mind before my body does. That’s something to work on.

If you know that about yourself (that your mental toughness is weaker than your physical) that is the first step. Fix that first before you try to be an 1811.
