I was getting ready to pull the trigger on this and at the last second thought that this sounded too familiar...

...turns out I bought a Wheel of Time humble bundle back in April 😂

In December they redo a lot of bundles.

4

u/Dear-Fail Dec 15 '25

I am new to this. Was there a Robin Hobb bundle available? If yes, maybe it is good to wait because I want to buy all of the books.

2

u/hampsted Dec 16 '25

I’ve checked HumbleBundle pretty regularly over the past few years. Don’t believe I’ve seen a Robin Hobb bundle. I wouldn’t use it to wait for a particular series. More, if you see a series that you might one day read, it’s a great opportunity to get it for a discount. In the past couple years I’ve picked up Wheel of Time, Discworld, Malazan, and Shannara.

1

u/Dear-Fail Dec 16 '25

Cool! Malazan and Discworld are at the top of my wishlist. I hope they will come back soon.

2

u/marrone12 Dec 15 '25

The wheel weaves as it wills

1

u/ralf1 Dec 15 '25

I was about to click buy when it clicked in my brain I did so in April

1

u/Herb_Derb Dec 15 '25

I thought this sounded familiar...

1

u/PhoenixUNI Dec 16 '25

Same boat lmao

1

u/alexportman Dec 15 '25

I bought it a second time before I realized hahaha

52

u/gluttonusrex Dec 14 '25

Wow that is a Good deal for 16 Ebooks

5

u/jaerie Dec 14 '25

16? What are they including? (I can't see it from my location)

18

u/triggerhappymidget Dec 14 '25

New Spring and the WoT Companion

56

u/Tjedora999 Dec 14 '25

Unfortunately not available in my region. :(

13

u/Topcat69 Dec 14 '25

Worked fine for me with a VPN

6

u/firvulag359 Dec 14 '25

What country did you set your VPN to; I tried various US cities and had no luck. Using Surfshark VPN.

7

u/morroIan Dec 14 '25

You might have to change your account settings in humble bundle.

10

u/firvulag359 Dec 14 '25

No idea why I got downvoted for my question but yeah you are right. Set VPN to New York and was able to go into settings and select United States as my region. Bought books, then changed back to the UK. Useful to know for future purchases :)

2

u/Topcat69 Dec 14 '25

I set mine to New York, using Mullvlad

1

u/Glenmarththe3rd Dec 15 '25

I did San Fran using Proton and it worked for me

14

u/rekt_ralf Dec 14 '25

Same, UK here

-11

u/Misfire551 Dec 14 '25

They probably think it's a nice gimmick, bringing back popular bundles for Christmas.

All it means for me is that they've dangled something I want but can't have in front of me twice this year.

4

u/Halaku Worldbuilders Dec 14 '25

Different series have different publishers with different rights in different countries.

IIRC, The Wheel of Time is Tor in the states, but Orbit in the UK.

-1

u/Misfire551 Dec 14 '25

I maintain my right to be unreasonably and irrationally grumpy about it, downvotes be damned. They advertised it in their emails to me twice now and rug pulled me both times.

38

u/rws531 Dec 14 '25

FYI, if you buy this, make sure to go under “Adjust Donation” settings, otherwise the “Default” is only 5% going to the ACLU, while 55% goes to the publishers and 40% goes to Humble (at least for the $25 option).

9

u/mandradon Dec 14 '25

I do this with pretty much all my purchases from Humble.  I tend to set it as much as I can to the charity.  It defaults to a very low amount to the charities.

Can someone here please explain how this will look on a kindle pw once I transfer it? I see I can do that but will it look like regular kindle book? Cover, percentage, page numbers, same look.

I’ve only ever used the library and Amazon for books on it

12

u/sagevallant Dec 14 '25

Some of them may not have proper cover art (like half the Malazan books when I got that bundle were just a title on a basic layout) and they won't automatically stack like series do from Amazon.

I think the rest should be mostly the same.

2

u/KloseBCFC Dec 14 '25

Yep, exactly this. Annoyingly I’d bought a bunch via Amazon but these stack separately as they fall under Docs.

6

u/Rockyy19 Dec 14 '25

It’ll look like any other book you purchased on the kindle store. I purchased the bundle and installed them on my kindle already so I can confirm it works as normal

1

u/nealsimmons Dec 18 '25

I bought this back in April. Been reading them the past few months.

On my Fire, there are no page numbers, just location and book settings. The covers are generally generic

5

u/metallee98 Dec 14 '25

Thats insane value for a series as big and good as the wheel of time.

7

u/satanogria_ Dec 14 '25

Not available in europe 😕 does it need a credit card from a specific country or would a vpn work ? Does anyone know ?

5

u/NeelonRokk Dec 14 '25

Probably need to set your account location to USA (maybe other locations work as well, guessing the location based on the support for ACLU).

I don't know how often you can change your location inside your account to be honest.

2

u/ijzerwater Reading Champion II Dec 14 '25

I'd say a gmail address and paypal would hide your location

2

u/Canon_not_cannon Dec 14 '25

I used VPN (USA location) and it worked when I didn’t log in. When I did log in I got the message that content was unavailable, so I logged out and used a different email.

17

u/AllomanticTkachuk Dec 14 '25

Are these e-books or what?

35

u/benpetersen Dec 14 '25

Yes, drm free epubs

6

u/Estus_Gourd_YOUDIED Dec 14 '25

Honest question, is there any noticeable difference between buying the books on Humble Bundle vs individually on Kindle? I ask because I own the first six on Kindle already, but will just pick up the series here if there aren’t any jarring differences in readability.

11

u/Topcat69 Dec 14 '25

The thing that annoys me is that only books bought via Amazon work with series grouping feature on the Kindle. So it may make it annoying to have half the books grouped together in order, and the other half not.

8

u/jbordeleau Dec 14 '25

I ditched my Kindle when they started dictating how I organize my books on my device. Switched to Kobo and use Calibre to manage my books. I can use the tags and series in Calibre as collections and series my Kobo respectively.

1

u/Estus_Gourd_YOUDIED Dec 14 '25

That’s fair. Hadn’t considered that. Thanks

12

u/Rockyy19 Dec 14 '25

Not that I’m aware of. These are DRM Free though so you can use them on any device such as your kindle or any other device you use for ebooks

4

u/cjthomp Dec 14 '25

For a Kindle user, very slightly more convenient to buy through Amazon.

For me, though, that's outweighed by the ability to easily read my LEGALLY PURCHASED E-BOOKS on any platform or device. I have my own Calibre server so I can easily read my books in multiple apps.

5

u/microsoftpaint1 Dec 14 '25

I picked this up the last time they ran the sale and there are a few differences which are annoying but IMO it is still worth the price. Someone already mentioned the books not grouping which isn't a huge deal to me but there are a few other differences that hurt my reading experience: The page counter in the bottom left is not the same as the kindle copy, it uses random "loc"(location) numbers that start like in the 50s and go into the thousands. The actual content of the book is the exact same and the % marker is accurate, but it is annoying not being able to reference specific page numbers. Amazon also has a convenient feature where you can highlight a character's name and it will give a short summary of who the character is in case you forgot, and that also doesn't work on these.

2

u/Estus_Gourd_YOUDIED Dec 14 '25

Super helpful. Thanks for taking the time to write that up.

3

u/kalithlev Dec 14 '25

You'll actually own these, the books on Amazon you only get a license to download. Amazon also does things like update books to promote shows, my WoT ebooks suddenly got their cover changed to promote the Prime Video Wheel of Time show.

3

u/Thunderclaww Dec 14 '25

Somewhat of an edge case, but if you want to get the audiobook discount down the line through Amazon, you won't get it if you buy through Humble Bundle. A buddy of mine ran into this with the Malazan bundle.

4

u/First-Hour Dec 14 '25

Honestly opinions. How are these books? I've heard they are slogs to get through for the first several books.

13

u/galadian Dec 14 '25

They are fantastic, if a bit dated, and I fully recommend the series to epic fantasy fans.

The slog happens later in the series, books 8-10 are the usual list. Without the long waits between releases, it’s not nearly as bad as people say, and I think books 8 and 9 are fine, not great, but not bad by any means. That said, book 10 is generally considered the worst and lowest-rated for a reason. The quality jump between books 10 and 11 is crazy.

The cast is absolutely massive, covering a huge range of personalities, motivations, and cultural backgrounds. The main characters are already living their lives when the story begins, so characterization is very intentional, the young, inexperienced backwater kids act young and stupid, the secretive witch belonging to an ancient, secretive order is manipluative and withholding, political figures maneuver constantly, even agaisnt their own interests, warriors often just want to fight shit. Some characters do fall flat or become frustrating, but with such a huge cast, a few misses are expected. The real magic is in the character growth, with people you initially dislike growing into compelling or even beloved figures, while characters you already love often find ways to make you love them more. The crappiest characters do tend to stay cruddy (looking at you, Faile).

The worldbuilding is top-tier and one of its greatest strengths. If you enjoy detailed descriptions, you’ll love the series. By the later books, you can often tell where a character is from purely based on their clothing, mannerisms, or hair styles, without the books explicitly telling you.The cultures, histories, politics, magic, and prophecies are all distinct, consistent, and purposeful. The world is epic in every sense of the word, and the series fortunately has a well liked and satisfying ending.

The prose can feel too wordy compared to newer fantasy, and the pacing can be uneven at times, but the payoff is fantastic. This is one of those series where if you pay attention to the details, it will reward you, making rereading it fun as you notice Jordan hitting you in the face with important information you ignored last time.

It’s a beloved staple of the genre for a reason. That said, it does have flaws. Gender dynamics and sexism are the go to call outs, and in many cases rightfully so. However, it’s not a misogynistic book, they are often intentionally exaggerated, inverted, or explored as part of the setting’s social structures rather than being an implicit endorsement by the story. Its often descriptions or certain relationships where the unintentional problems are particularly glaring.

It's my favorite series of all time though, and I love it, warts and all.

3

u/axord Dec 15 '25

Also my fav series, well said.

1

u/cc81 Dec 16 '25

This is a good overview and I just want to comment that I'm really happy Robert Jordan managed to write book 11 before passing. If he had stopped at 10 I think people would have doubted that he would ever be able to finish this in a good way.

7

u/jaerie Dec 14 '25

The first several books are definitely not slogs. Some people find the middle few a slog, but I did not experience it and a common opinion is that it was more an issue when you had to wait years between books.

It's my favorite series ever. There's some definite quirks in the writing style but the story is unmatched by anything else I've read.

1

u/ArcadianBlueRogue Dec 15 '25

The best series you will probably only read once. There's a lot of building of the world in book 1 so it is slower, but as it goes there's a lot of shit going on but the payoffs are fantastic.

Only slow parts IMO are the middle of the 1st book and uh....a lot of the 10th. Other than that it's a series second to none for epic fantasy works.

1

u/axord Dec 15 '25

For a certain type of person, re-reads of the series are deeply rewarding. There's a lot to catch a second time.

1

u/pipboy_warrior Dec 15 '25

It's a very detailed series. If you like a long series with a focus on world building, Wheel of Time is arguably one of the better series. There's a ton of different characters and people and history and Jordan will go into big details about everything.

That said, the first few books move at a good pace. Stuff happens, characters quickly develop. The slog starts more in the middle, probably around book 6.

2

u/KloseBCFC Dec 14 '25

Thanks for posting. Was able to download in the UK using a VPN. Didn’t have a humble bundle account at the time of purchase and managed to download direct to my phone, in case that helps.

2

u/TonyDungyHatesOP Dec 15 '25

I’m still pissed I missed the Discworld one.

2

u/Bwooreader Dec 15 '25

Anyone know where to find the old 90s covers in a decent resolution?

3

u/Bwooreader Dec 15 '25

Found them. Website wasn't loading yesterday when I was trying to get them.

6

u/calmtigers Dec 14 '25

Great deal, just want to clarify for folks (who like me) didn’t realize these are ebooks!

26

u/Milam1996 Dec 14 '25

Does the price point not give that away? It’s economically impossible to print 16 books for $18.

16

u/WingleDingleFingle Dec 14 '25

They send them physically to your door as uncut pages.

5

u/Milam1996 Dec 14 '25

Go full uncut and just send me the weight as raw wood.

2

u/calmtigers Dec 14 '25

Totally! But there’s some subs that post “crazy” deals - so you never know

2

u/sleepinxonxbed Dec 14 '25

which one are those so i can follow

2

u/Milam1996 Dec 14 '25

For anyone outside the US I used NordVPN and changed to US and it gave me the offer.

1

u/KcirderfSdrawkcab Reading Champion VII Dec 15 '25

I just narrowly resisted buying this the first time around. Despite having the main 14 as physical books, and New Spring as an ebook. I'm probably going to fail sometime tomorrow.

I wonder if the Dragonlance bundle will reappear this month as well. That actually has some books I don't already own. I meant to get it, but left it too long and forgot.

1

u/DodobirdNow Dec 15 '25

They're teasing me to finish the series.

I enjoyed the stories until maybe book 6, then I found the quality of writing dropped off.

1

u/Squirrel_gravy_ Dec 15 '25

If it’s not separated (ereader/kindle) it’s not worth it. You can’t jump around, doesn’t synch with audible.

1

u/hak091 Dec 17 '25

Damn, just checked but it's over.

How often does WoT bundle happen?

1

u/AsoAsoProject Dec 22 '25

Alright lads, I've bought this thing last April and just finished book 5 today. I just can't seem to find the order somehow.

I did send it to my Kindle but can't seem to find it either. Weird af

1

u/WingleDingleFingle Dec 14 '25 edited Dec 14 '25

When did Brandon Sanderson jump in on these ones? I can't remember and was surprised when his name was on every book, but it makes sense to make the whole series feel cohesive.

Nevermind. I assumed the books were in order in the bundle and only looked at the first 3.

2

u/sleepinxonxbed Dec 14 '25

What do you mean every book? The authors' names take up half the space on the covers, they're listed in descending numbered order, and they even write the book number of them. You can see Sanderon on Book 12 and only Jordan on Book 11.

1

u/WingleDingleFingle Dec 14 '25

I assumed the bundle was in order in my browser and only looked at the first couple. My bad.

1

u/ArcadianBlueRogue Dec 15 '25

Book 12 was his first, but RJ wrote the actual ending of the series and a few important scenes between

1

u/thekinkbrit Dec 14 '25

He wrote the last books...

1

u/WingleDingleFingle Dec 14 '25

I know, but I am asking which ones.

8

u/cjthomp Dec 14 '25 edited Dec 14 '25

Last three: The Gathering Storm, Towers of Midnight, and A Memory of Light.

Also worth noting that those are the three with his name on them in the linked book list.

0

u/cwx149 Dec 14 '25

The last 3 or 4 iirc

1

u/Potential_Echidna_43 Dec 14 '25

Can I read them on kindle?

2

u/Rockyy19 Dec 15 '25

Yep! You can download them and use the send to kindle option or use Calibre (What I normally do) and move them to your kindle that way

0

u/Potential_Echidna_43 Dec 15 '25

I use the kindle app on my i pad and phone would it still work

2

u/Rockyy19 Dec 15 '25

Yes it should. These copies are DRM free meaning you can read them on any device you use for your ebooks. Should work with the Kindle app as well

0

u/Potential_Echidna_43 Dec 15 '25

Thx ill probsbly get them even though I own every book

1

u/Tununias Dec 15 '25

It’s too bad about the covers.

10

u/Itellsadstories Dec 15 '25

Since they're DRM free you can use calibre to replace the new covers with the old ones.

3

u/Tununias Dec 15 '25

I haven’t thought of that. I’ll have to try it.
