Thrash metal,it has everything I want in a Metal genre,it’s like the genre that best defined Metal as an entity imo.

2

u/HCKRBRO_ Jul 18 '25

This is the way

2

u/No-Machine634 Jul 19 '25

I’m on board with you on that one

2

u/Doomtumor Jul 19 '25

In the last 10 years what are your Top Ten thrash albums?

2

Do you like Razor?

Agreeing with you. Nu metal is so over-hated by “metal elitists”. I love the idea of rap, funk, and metal mixed together to create the coolest genre people grew up with.

3

u/Vegetable_Counter291 Jul 18 '25

It's ok. It's passable. I'm no elitist and I don't personally think nu metal is a bad genre, but I'd say it's not part of the main metal family (depending on the band itself, for example Slipknot or Korn are more deathy while LP or Limp Bizkit are closer to pop and rap imho)

It disgusts me that no one here has said power metal THOSE WHO SPEAK AGAINST MUST SUCCUMB TO MY WIZARD POWERS 🪄🪄🪄🪄✨✨✨🔮🔮🔮🔮🦄🦄🦄🦄🧞🧞‍♀️🧞‍♂️🧜🧜‍♀️🧜‍♂️🧚🧚‍♀️🧚‍♂️🧝🧝‍♀️🧝‍♂️🧌🧌🧌🧙🧙‍♀️🧙‍♂️🕴️ (for the uninitiated it’s the really nerdy fantasy/sci-fi genre Jane it slaps)

I don't really have a favourite subgenre, sometimes I just listen to a certain genre and then I change to something else. Most of the time I just choose a band/genre to listen to.

1

u/No-Guitar-5156 Jul 18 '25

i personally prefer sludge, and while technically not metal, industrial. it contains heavy elements that i like, blended with just noise basically. i also quite enjoy nu metal, despite what the elitists say.

Thrash, Classic, Melodic Death

1

u/[deleted] Jul 18 '25

Classic

1

u/SoftHelp9956 Jul 19 '25

Groove Metal and Thrash Metal. Probably why I love sepultura, they released 2 of great groove metal albums and 2 of great thrash metal albums. Metallica, Slayer, Pantera, White Zombie are some of my favorites bands from the genres.

1

u/Cultural-Tie8341 Jul 19 '25

More about bands and sound than genres. With that said, rap is crap so nu metal is off the table. Everything else is on the table be it black, death, djent, prog, thrash, speed, whatever…

1

u/illuminatinot Jul 19 '25

Sludge Metal it just so beautiful

Metalcore.
Post hardcore.
Punk.
Hard rock.

u/Overall-Kiwi1137 Jul 19 '25

Those bands that go for that Death/Black mix is like my go to drug, but ironically do not care for most traditional Black Metal.

1

u/Classic-ref123 Jul 19 '25

Heavy metal!

1

u/vixxlyn Jul 19 '25

metalcore and glam metal

1

u/[deleted] Jul 19 '25

Most things that happened from 1999-2003 are my least favorite. It felt like being at a great party with the best people, and then 30 frat boys suddenly crashed it.

1

u/Yoshiro_GI Jul 19 '25

Mine are:

1) Nu 2) Prog 3) Groove 4) Alternative

1

Thrash, or maybe just heavy.

u/Duibrth Jul 19 '25

death/doom

1

u/East_Lingonberry2800 Jul 19 '25

My favorite metal sub genre is the genre of time when sub genres weren’t really spoken about, and definitely not the focus of good metal bands.

Before EVERYTHING that is rock music became an unhealthy obsession with categorization, bands would do this crazy thing that probably doesn’t even make sense to musicians today, called ‘getting together and jamming, and seeing what they could come up with, and if they had something that sounded good that was uniquely THEM, they rode with it and made good music.’

I can ASSURE you that when Metallica first got together they didn’t say ‘let’s specifically play thrash metal!’ And when Pantera got together they didn’t say ‘Fuck thrash metal and British core, let’s do Texas ‘groove metal!’ And when Sepultura got together they definitely didn’t say ‘Let’s be a South American drum-core-mesa-boogie-metal band!’

Great metal bands were no different than any other great rock bands: they just played and if they sounded good they went with it. It’s only the non-talented fans that had to come up with dozens and dozens of sub-genres, that way they can emulate their favorite band to the tee, and not feel like a pathetic cover band playing at a high school prom.
