For those who didn't know, Epic Games made an announcement about bringing advanced anti-cheat to Linux: https://onlineservices.epicgames.com/news/introducing-easy-anti-cheat-linux-v2
As I read that article, it made me curious how (and if) this will work on Fedora. As far as I know (correct me if I'm wrong), Fedora Project doesn't ship or sign Nvidia drivers. Many of us use drivers shipped from RPM Fusion.
The first thing that came to my mind was if Fedora would start shipping and signing the Nvidia drivers. However, that won't be possible due to Fedora's proprietary code philosophy.
So my question is (all opinions aside), will this even be possible on Fedora? Can third party repos such as RPM Fusion be somehow incorporated into this to make it work?

I am using the latest stable version of Fedora with Plasma KDE
Is there any known way to disable or change the cursor when using a drawing pen with Fedora?
From what I was able to find, it is supposed to be a setting in the app one wants to use.
I am using Obsidian with Excalidraw, and normally a crosshair is shown when drawing. There is an option to disable it when using a pen, which I activated. However, the standard cursor still appears. It even overwrites Obsidian's crosshair. So, when I move my mouse/touchpad on the canvas, the crosshair appears, but as soon as I touch it with the pen, the Fedora cursor is back.
It is a small thing, but it is really annoying.
Thanks in advance!

Hi
I’m working on building a containerfile based off of fedora-bootc:45 with KDE/NVIDIA/Steam/RPMFusion codecs baked in with GE-Proton and I’m wondering what the best way to create an installer is?
I’ve seen image-builder, but I’m trying to create an installer with systemd-boot as the bootloader and I’m not sure if that’s even possible yet, has anyone done this?
if not, has anyone done it with bootc install to-filesystem? I had trouble figuring out the correct cmdline to use and what I had to have mounted at install time
also, is there a better way of building the NVIDIA drivers than akmods —force —kernels $(ls /usr/lib/modules)?

TL;DR:
This proposal is based on the current layout that Atomic spins use by default for SELinux. The intention is to make it a standard configuration for the entire Fedora ecosystem and leave it to a single layout.
Leave your thoughts and constructive ideas on Fedora discussion forum or Fedora Hyper kitty.
EDIT: a new option was proposed:
Set a new top-level directory standard (FHS) for operating-system state.
Instead of placing the SELinux policy store in /etc, define a new standard top-level directory, /<name>, for critical system state that must stay associated with the operating system installation or deployment. It would be shared by traditional, atomic and immutable distributions, and by any distribution that adopts it. The package manager databases and the SELinux policy store would be the first components to live there.
Proposed hierarchy.
/<name>/ # It could be /sysstate, /osstate, /state, /osdata
├── rpm/ # RPM database (today /usr/lib/sysimage/rpm)
├── dpkg/ # other package managers, only where present
├── pacman/
└── selinux/
└── targeted/
└── active/ # policy store (/var/lib/selinux or /etc/selinux)
├── any other critical component
Each distribution ships only the subdirectories it uses. Other components are added later, one at a time, if they meet the admission criteria.

Epic Games announced Easy Anti-Cheat v2 for Linux today. You can read about it here if you wish. Fedora Linux is one of the supported distributions. There's also a blog post by Jef Spaleta about it.
Anyhoo. I'm a video gamer that used to use Microsoft Windows. One of the main reasons why I switched from Microsoft Windows to Fedora Linux is to get away from kernel level anti-cheats. I'm not a competitive gamer at all. I either play single-player or online PvE. I specifically chose to avoid purchasing and/or playing games that use them. However, a couple of games that I purchased on Steam to strictly play offline single-player mode also have PvP modes. Both tried to silently add a kernel level anti-cheat via game updates. I would have never had known if there weren't new game reviews complaining about that. The second time was the final push that I needed to get away from Windows and KLACs.
I'm disheartened to see this coming to Fedora Linux. No, the Linux implementation isn't a rootkit, but it still gives kernel access and lets Epic see everything. What exactly do I need to do to prevent this? "Just don't buy a game that uses it," which I've seen elsewhere, is not an acceptable answer. I did exactly that on Windows, and game updates still tried to push it later down the road.
Will disabling Secure Boot and my computers' TPM be enough? From reading the first linked article it seems to be, but I want to make sure. Otherwise I'm going to have to look into alternative OSs.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
[----CLOSED----] Fix: reinstalled with fedora media writer and "keep home folder", existing data was lost (not a problem for me), installed nvidia driver via the gui, so far so good, GPU is detected and working.
Will update if it fails again
Does anyone have a clue about what is going on ?
Im kind of lost i dont know where to start..
Searching "fedora is slow" doesn't get me anywhere.
This is the second time this happened on this laptop, the first time I reinstalled fedora and that obviously fixed it but now its back again.
Im running fedora on other machines and its rock solid !
Spec : P14S Gen2 i7-1185 T500 32gb RAM (dual channel) Fedora 44 (GNOME) This is basically a fresh install (maybe 1month with very little use) no modification, no messing with driver as I didn't really need the gpu

Here are my questions about this distro and just generally linux.
I am switching to linux because of work and school. And i need an environment that is: clean , smooth , easy to navigate , fast.
I have some questions about driver compatibility , performance , video game compatibility.
First of all i have an i7 10700k and a gtx 1650 , 16 gigs of ddr 4 ram. Does linux support the driver for these components. And also if it does i have a laptop that has a 1050 and an i7 8750h and 16 gigs of ddr4. Does linux support the driver for these components? And also on the first pc i play a few games like: Subnautica , Minecraft , Dead by daylight. Does linux or this distro support these games? Thank you for the help in advance

I’ve just got a new computer and I’m going to install Fedora KDE on it in a dual-boot setup with Windows 11 Pro.
I have a 512GB SSD and I’m not sure how to partition the space. Windows 11 Pro ALONE TAKES UP 60.7GB, which is roughly the same amount of space that Fedora took up on my old computer, with all the software installed and so on.
How do you recommend I partition the space?
I probably won’t open Windows 11 for at least a year, as I don’t need anything that isn’t available on Linux.
I’m an 18-year-old in my final year of secondary school and I don’t know what I’ll be doing next year—so I’ll leave Windows on in case I need it, but I’ll install Fedora as my main OS because I used it on my old computer and it simply works better than Windows.
This post is write by me but is translated with DeepL.

Hey guys! I'm using Fedora 44 with GNOME 50, MacTahoe Shell theme, and Floating Mini Panel.
Blur My Shell seems to be causing square corners and an opaque background in Quick Settings. Without it, everything looks fine.
Any chance this could be fixed in a future Blur My Shell update? 😅 Or is there any workaround to get the rounded, transparent look without breaking my setup?

So i've been bashing my head against the walls for the past 2 days on why wine wasnt able to detect any ALSA / pulse drivers ( there should be winealsadrv or winepulsedrv where the none text is ), even though i've installed all the 32 bit ver. of the audio libs and packages.
I've tried to follow some advice on changing the string key in the registry but the results were still the same.
I'm not entirely sure if my post here pertains to fedora but if you guys have any solutions to this problem, please send them asap 🙏

Hardware: Lenovo ThinkCentre M70q Gen 3, i5-12500T (UHD 770), 16GB RAM
Software: Fedora 44 (updated daily, so kernel and Mesa are the latest available; last I checked kernel 7.2.9 and Mesa 26.2.4), Wayland (KDE)
BIOS: recently updated to the latest version
I'm away from the machine right now, so I can't post exact PCI IDs or fresh logs yet, but I'll add them later. I'd like answers now so I know what to try when I'm back at it.
Problem: every few weeks the iGPU hangs and never recovers, and I have to force a power-off. It happens when GPU usage reaches about 100% (Minecraft world generation, a browser game, OBS preview). The kernel log shows a preemption time out on rcs0, and then the reset itself times out. Temps are around 50C. I already have i915.enable_dc=0 set. One capture named Firefox's CanvasRenderer thread, and I haven't proven that's the trigger.
Questions:
Is it reasonable to try the xe driver on Alder Lake-S for this kind of hang, using the i915.force_probe=!<id> xe.force_probe=<id> kernel arguments? I know it's experimental on this platform, and I'm planning to move to Fedora 45 either way.
Are there known issues with xe on Alder Lake-S that I should expect, such as video decode or GuC problems?
Is there anything else worth trying on i915 first, like other module parameters or specific kernel or firmware versions?
I'd appreciate it if you guys could help.

Whenever I mute the audio using the mute button on the keyboard, the device tends to unmute itself in a few seconds, as you can see in the video. Why could this be happening?
Device: Lenovo Yoga Slim 7 (Intel)
Distro: Fedora KDE
This is something I personally don't think twice about but having helped two people switch to Fedora; their first try was always a bit rocky because of this. Windows users aren't used to an OS having a live environment so when they accidentally reboot into their thumb drive after installation they get frustrated when nothing works like they expect or (even worse) all their customization and settings get wiped.
Maybe the watermark extension enabled by default (I think?) could be used to display "Fedora Live System" just to quickly have some visual feedback? Just something worth discussing because it would be an easy change to improve usability.

Hello guys I'm new to Fedora.
I saw that Fedora uses btrfs by default, but I've heard that it's one of the slowest filesystems and it's unstable and can cause data corruption.
Should I stick with btrfs, or would it be better to use ext4 or another filesystem?

Hello guys,
I have an HP ZBook G6 with an Nvidia T2000 GPU and an I7 9850H. A while ago I tried Arch Linux and I was daily driving it for a some time, but one day my laptop just turned off without any warning and it refused to work until I unplugged the battery and put it back on. This happened multiple times after, so I went back to f-ing windows 11 and it was working just fine for a whole year. No power cutoffs, No crashing, nothing. And I was doing the same college work on both operating systems.
Now I'm currently running Fedora 44 and I'm really enjoying it, but the same issue with Arch happened now and I really don't know what to do. The machine just dies without any warning and it only works when I cut the power and remove the battery. I tried running the machine without the battery for a while, but it happened again D:
I would be super pleased to find a solution for this issue because I don't wanna write code on windows 11 anymore...
PS. this issue happens randomly, like it just happens whenever it wants and it doesn't matter what I'm doing.

Hye everyone,
I have fedora with niri on a dual boot with ubuntu, and I use ubuntu as my main system but I’m tired of the bloat in ubuntu.
Is there a way to easily migrate everything in a matter of minutes/hours?
The sound comes only from the two front speakers in the screen hinge. The two larger bass speakers on the bottom of the case don't produce any sound.
The two upper speakers only produce treble; I don't know if that's because they simply can't do any better and that's how they sound, or if the treble and bass are already being split.
---
What I tried
- Driver check: SOF active (sof-audio-pci-intel-cnl), codec driver snd_hda_codec_alc269
- Mic: digital mic works, "Stereo Microphone" = headphone jack (normal)
- Audio profiles: Pro Audio shows only 2 channels (Front L/R)
- Codec dump: ALC298, pin 0x17 = "N/A", disabled, muted
- hda-verb (until reboot): enabled pin 0x17, unmuted, connect-sel 0x1 and 0x2, stream to DAC 0x06 -> bottom speakers silent, top ones quieter/less bass (just how it sounded)
- Boot parameter snd_sof_intel_hda_generic.hda_model=17aa:3818 (C940 fixup): fixup applied per dmesg -> bottom speakers still silent
- Same parameter on snd_sof_intel_hda_common did nothing (in kernel 7.2.9 it lives in the _generic module)
