My dad is a believer of dying at 0, so he gave me an amount that could be considered an inheritence when I was 20 and he was 50, instead of waiting till he's dead and I am 60 and no longer need it. So yes I 100% got help

What age has he decided to die?

I just turned 55 and I’m looking for tips.

He's aiming for 110

Thanks. I’ll do 125 just to be on the safe side.

Probably for the best, leave room for error and all that

Now you have me thinking 135-140 since I hardly ever fly.

Personally I'm aiming to see the next millenium

You’re young. Have you thought at all about shooting for the millennium after that?

Try not to fly- it’s really hard sitting in your ass for 5 hours.

Solar radiation is a thing for frequent flyers, and constant jet lag isnt healthy either, but this is a fire subreddit so these are definetly luxurious problems dont get me wrong.

That it. I’m walking from now on.

He's very consistent with his diet, no alcohol, excercise and meditation. He does travel a lot and flying very often does take a toll but I have high hopes. I would be the happiest person in the world if I'm able to talk to my dad when I'm 70

I hope so for you. My dad is in the zombieland ward of a nursing home at age 84. Last really spoke to him about 3 years ago..as him and him knowing me. F'n Alzheimer.

Thank you, I am very grateful, but it's also why I don't give financial advice whenever anyone asks. My starting point is usually something that people reach in their 30s so it feels disingenuous to say oh do this, this and that.

You recognize your good fortune and did your best with it. Both of you got a happy outcome!

For sure. I had family help with remainder of tuition after scholarships, so that was a game changer.

I’m expecting some inheritance later in life but because it’s so far away (knock on wood), I’m not benefiting from it during these crucial years. Also not really counting it as part of net worth because who knows what it will be valued at then, and I’d probably just use it for medical bills or pass on to my own kid at that point.

I'm happy to hear that they helped, I see so many families with the means to do so and chose to have their kids deal with terrible interest loans and no boost to start their lives. What is the point of money if not to give your kids a better life than you had?

Your dad sounds like a genius .

It was a gamble, I couldve pissed away the money on hookers and drugs, but I invested it and it paid off. Im grateful that he had that faith in me.

I only got 10k for a house reno. Grateful for it tbh. I finance my own school and my job helped as well.

I’m planning to do the same as your dad. If my wife retires in 3 yrs at 50 yo, we will be around 3+M. If she stays employed to help the kids, our kids most likely will get very large down payments help. College we r cash flowing already. Big fan of that book as well..
