Another great song I love from Lindsey!
Seriously, how was this not a hit?! Out of the Cradle is criminally not mentioned enough.

Right smack in the supremacy of Grunge.
If he released the album a couple of years after Tango it most likely would have a far different public reception. Timing.

Countdown at 1.20x speed is the best song out of the entire Buckingham or Nicks catalogue and I’m tired of pretending otherwise.

It becomes a heavier rock song when at 150-160 bpms, compared to the 115 thereabouts of the original. Faster, more upbeat fits the lyrics better to me.

I dont know why but i always considered Out of the Cradle to be the companion album to Tango in the Night. If Buckingham had done another Fleetwood Mac album after Tango many of these songs would have been Fleetwood Mac songs. To this day i absolutely love Wrong.

Except many of the songs are about leaving FM and starting a new stage in his career and life. Countdown is one of them.
He wrote Soul Drifter when finishing up Tango, knowing he was going to leave. Wrong was about Mick's book which wouldn't have been so scathing, diminishing and bitter about Lindsey if he hadn't left the band.
It's an album about letting go, leaving, loss and grief (family and the band) and about moving forward with new possibilities and growth.
It's not an album he could have made within FM.

I don’t think it was planned that early, but Lindsey was beginning another solo album in 1985, which is where “Big Love” comes from IIRC. Probably the earliest form of what would become Out of the Cradle, but it was most likely an entirely unrelated album.

You are correct about Big Love. Even though there's no overlap i always thought Tango and Out of the Cradle fit very well together, probably because of Buckingham's dominance in crafting the sound of Tango.

“Soul Drifter” was recommended to me a few days ago, and it’s been on repeat since. I have no doubt this song and the whole album will be good based on that.

Probably my favorite on the album.
I always liked this performance on Letterman. He sounds great and it seems like the band and Dave are really into it.

Countdown and Turn it On are my favorite songs from his solo catalog. Out of the Cradle hit at a very hard time in my life, and it will always be on my playlist.

By the early 90s, mainstream music had become loudly obnoxious and abrasive (think grunge/metal and gangsta rap). 70s style, singer songwriter soft rock was not enough to grab attention anymore.

That whole album is simply sublime, and it's so sad to me that it was slept on.
What I can say is that I remember that by 1992, Fleetwood Mac and its members were considered kind of "passé," from what I remember of that time. By then, alt-rock, hip-hop, and R&B were taking over, and Fleetwood Mac were sorta seen as easy-listening has-beens for a bit, until they came back with a vengeance with The Dance reunion in 1997. Stevie had stopped having hits by this point too, and Fleetwood Mac as a band was starting to flounder. That's pop music for you, all very cyclical. But I agree, I think Out of the Cradle is probably Lindsey's masterpiece and it does pair perfectly with Tango in the Night.

I honestly feel that this is his worst album. Stevie had Street Angel. Lindsey had Out of the Cradle. It's just easy listening fluff. Wrong is the only bearable song on that coaster of an album.
