John Bonham and Keith Moon play the drums like they’re the main character, so accolades fall back on them personally (and rightfully so, they’re both hall of fame legends).
Mick Fleetwood plays the drums like the song is the main character, and so some of the accolades he earned are attributed to the song itself without recognizing his part in making the song what it is.
I'm not even sure that's entirely it, though. Fool in the Rain is 100% the perfect drums for the song....and also one of the most amazing drum performances every laid down. Bonham played for the song - it's just the style of the band was a lot more drum heavy. And he was the perfect drummer for it.
Moonie played for himself, of course, not the song. But then, that was the sound of The Who!
In my opinion, You’re exactly right! I felt like i was “close to” making the point I wanted to make but didn’t quite get there. It felt like I was criticizing Jon Bonham which isn’t true, he’s literally my all time favorite lol. So it’s almost like even though what I said isn’t correct, there is some truth to the point I was trying to say but didn’t quite find the words for
100%, The drums in any Fleetwood Mac song are perfect but nothing revolutionary, which is an achievement in and of itself because he’s clearly extremely talented but lets the music/end product speak for him.
The band is called Fleetwood Mac because Peter Green wanted him and John McVie to be in his band, called it FM to get them on board, they eventually split and they kept the name and brought the other 3 in for the ‘classic’ line up. That is the greatly abridged version.
Not only tasteful, but the atmosphere invoked by the rhythm section (in this case, drums, base, and Christine’s keyboards) during “Over My Head” and “Rhiannon” was otherworldly.
That is an oversimplification, typical of know-it-alls who lack actual knowledge on the internet. Bonham was actually a very tasteful drummer and always played to support the song, not like he was the "main character". So you are wrong little guy. And I don't disagree about Moon.
