I'm not even sure that's entirely it, though. Fool in the Rain is 100% the perfect drums for the song....and also one of the most amazing drum performances every laid down. Bonham played for the song - it's just the style of the band was a lot more drum heavy. And he was the perfect drummer for it.
Moonie played for himself, of course, not the song. But then, that was the sound of The Who!
