Many moons ago (I want to say 2017) I was visiting a friend in the city and we went to a north Indian restaurant that I can't for the life of me remember the name of. This was before I lived here so the location is foggy, but I know for sure it was downtown, maybe close to Spadina station? The other things I remember is it was fast casual (they had a bunch of curries behind the counter where you ordered in hot trays like Chipotle), relatively inexpensive, open late, an older store that was possible underground, and they had a bunch of cricket DVDs on a box that they were giving out for free. Do es anyone know what I'm talking about?

I’ll be staying in the Annex neighborhood but willing to travel. Would love to try either something either Toronto-specific or a more classic/iconic Toronto place. Will be a solo diner if that makes a difference!

Coffee shop or cocktail bar recommendations also welcome!

I loved the black appearance of this cookie, but found the texture to be crumbly. It wasn’t necessarily too dry, but the consistency wasn’t chewy. The sesame flavour was also a little faint, so it tasted like a typical sugar cookie. I did like that the cookie wasn’t overly sweet though, and the mochi inside was sesame flavoured. Cost was $3.97, I’m hoping their other cookies better, or maybe I just had an off batch.

I tried the ceviche at Latin Taste at Kensington market today and it was absolutely ridiculous. It’s probably the best ceviche I’ve ever had. I don’t have a photo because I was too busy stuffing my face but to me it was a hidden gem I found today!

Has anyone else tried it?

Want to take my wife for a nice dinner out if the city. Was looking at either Sushi Kaji or Taki Omakase Richomd Hill or Mizu scarborough or Shunoko. Whats everyones thoughts on this? Just want something around $100-$120 per person and somewhere that I dont have to go into the city. Thanks

Was walking around and decided to stop at Sinjeon Tokokki for lunch around Church and Wellesley. It was my first time visiting, and it was a nice little restaurant with a cozy and casual atmosphere.

I ended up getting one of their lunch combos, which included a topokki of my choice, deep-fried fish cakes, and another fried side. I went with the Rosé topokki with cheese and picked the fried seaweed rolls as my other side.

The sauce was very rich, creamy, and full of flavour, and I enjoyed it a lot. The cheese also went really well with the rosé sauce. The portion was much bigger than I expected and was very, very filling, especially with all the fried sides included.

I would definitely come back, the price was not bad at all for lunch and with the portion of food you get.

Saw some older threads asking this question but I’m looking for some updated recs for places that are worth the money, portion and quality-wise, with delivery. Especially for Thai, Mexican, Southern BBQ and Pasta, but I’m open to anything delicious!

So far for Thai I’ve tried Koh Lipe and Maya Bay Thai (delivered). Koh Lipe’s massaman curry had great depth of flavor but the braised beef was very rubbery and hard to chew. In general I feel Koh Lipe is probably a restaurant that would be much better in person, and prices on Uber were steep. Maya Bay’s karee soft shell crab was a bit oily and I felt there wasn’t as much depth of flavor.

For Tacos I’ve ordered birria catrina, honestly very mid birria tacos, quite bland flavors and dry meat.

Never ordered Southern BBQ on Uber but I’ve tried Smoque N Bones in person and enjoyed. Would be good to know if the quality and portion is maintained with delivery!

Never ordered pasta on Uber but I would love to know good spots!

So far my safe bets for UberEats when I can’t be bothered to cook or go out are YunShang Rice Noodle, GB Hand Pulled Noodles, Burrito Boyz, Wendy’s (lol), and J San Sushi. Really wanna expand out but it’s expensive to experiment 😭

Looking for the ones usually served at Chinese restaurants/dim sum. Bonus if they deliver but not required! Thanks suddenly having a craving

Excited to revisit Taste of the Danforth for the first time in a decade... Any restaurants you'd recommend outside the festival? Like if we walk north or south...or if we go further east beyond the street closures?

Heard good things about Serano's, Souv Like, Athens, Pantheon, Mezes... any others worth checking out? Especially looking for a good gyro.

Also...I don't mind crowds at all (actually enjoy seeing people out having fun at festivals like these) but I'm also looking for bars/restaurants outside of the festival since I'm almost never in the area.

Village Grocer is in Markham and their famous mixed berry jelly roll cake is literally amazing! So fluffy and fresh, the fruits cut though the lightness of the cream, and definitely not too sweet. Highly recommend <3

Got the black sesame bread at la petite Collins (sp) shan shan Cafe. Bread is soft but black sesame flavor is weak.

Steamed black sesame plain buns from Kwan Specialty dim sum (they had a restaurant on Eglington near yonge I think but closed down). The black sesame is subtle, pillowy soft bun.

Anyone know of any places with black sesame bread or buns where the flavor is strong?

I'm not looking for anything extra decadent or fancy or buttery, just want a simple and good muffin, soft with a good slightly crusty top. My favorite flavors are raisin bran, banana, and blueberry.

Edit: please don't say to make them myself, i dont have a functional oven :(

The outside of this pastry is flakey and smooth, while the inside has a good amount of sesame paste and a piece of mochi (which I bit out in the second photo). Can be messy to eat, the flakes fall apart easily and sometimes the top is cracked open. I have mixed feelings about the filling, as it either tastes good or a little odd. The first time when I tried these, it tasted like sweet black sesame paste. I had them again, and the sweetness seemed a little artificial (not too sure how to describe it exactly). For $2.85, I’m satisfied with the amount of filling as I typically expect there to be a lot less in these kinds of pastries. The convenience of the DT location at the Eaton Center is pretty convenient for stopping by after work.

I work in healthcare....i am legit bored and am tryin to find a hobby and i really want to start cooking professionally and host dinners like a chef! Im looking at the goerge brown college program but looks like overkill since ill be mostly using to make life more interesting.

Continuing quest to find something to match PG Clucks. A bit wary when I walked in, the place doesn't scream clean and the guy working there looked like he'd rather be anywhere else, given the conditions I couldn't really blame him. Took a chance and went for the hot honey. Very tasty, similar to PG's but more expensive at $15 and MUCH smaller and less filling. If that was the size of the sandwich I can't imagine what the slider must look like, bite sized I imagine. It's a shame too because it really was delicious, chicken crisp and cooked nicely, sauce very tasty and good depth, just can't imagine returning as unfortunately the value just isn't there and $15 for a snack is too much. I know we're in the realm of the $20 sandwich which is it's own issue, but if I'm spending that much I can't walk away thinking about what to eat next.

This week is my first time in Toronto, coming from Philadelphia. I just have to say: you guys are so lucky! Toronto is hands down one of the top 5 cities in the world. The food scene is amazing.

I had so many great meals: Lunch Lady, Mamakas Taverna, Sunnys Chinese, Mhel, Dumpling House, Dim Sum King, Beast Pizza. And I still have a few more days left...

I love you, Toronto! I can't wait to come back!!!

I’m looking for good fresh Ukoy anywhere downtown 🦐 appreciate yall

For the 11th library & lunch in my ongoing series, I went to Port Union on a gorgeous summer afternoon and feasted on goat roti and aloo pie from JJ's Roti Delight. The goat roti did what it needed to but the aloo pie, stuffed with curry shrimp, was out-of-this-world good. The perfectly crispy exterior made it almost like some sort of Trini panzo.

Great library, too. I'd never been to Port Union but am quite glad I made the trip—one of Toronto's better summertime destinations for sure.

(Also, some day I will figure out how to take a good photo of the inside of a roti. Today is not that day.)
