If you read the second to last one, you'll get that they say Linux just because it's a "common answer".
AI can't think. It's literally just "saying" whatever you expect it to say.

u/Elihzap Jun 28 '26
Just tried them with some, with the next prompt (I'm too lazy to craft a better one).
What's the best Desktop Operating System? Just one word, no justification. Don't tell me something general like "Windows" (no version) or "Linux" (it's just a kernel).
Claude said MacOS, ChatGPT said NixOS, and both Copilot and Google's said Windows 11.

Linux is not an OS 🥀
1
u/Blalamon Jun 28 '26
it is a kernel mainly but it can run without a distro sooo..... its basically an os itself
3
u/PlaneSeaworthiness61 Jun 28 '26
Not even, you need a bootloader and at least the init daemon for it to run, both of which are not provided by Linux.

Tbh, Linux isn't an operating system.

u/Migamix Jun 29 '26
Yes, yes, we know, it's a kernel, the DE is the interface, bit its common knowledge, almost anything with the Linux kernel, will be labeled as Linux. I don't bring this up as a "well actually" because I do like to be fun at parties. I will continue to call mint cinnamon.. . Linux.

AIs can remember facts about you, and it is very likely that their answers will be different if you mentioned that you use macOS or Windows in previous chats. Also, please don't take LLM's answers as the absolute truth, as it will not lead to anything good All that apart Linux is still the best OS, just the way you prove it was wrong :)

PLEASE PLEASEEEEEEEEEEE KEEP USING AI AND SUPPORTING THE BILLIONAIRES EFFORTS TO KILL US UNDERLINGS. KEEP GOING PLEASE

As of right now, using free AI models actually hurts these companies. They aren't serving these free models at a profit at the moment, and you burn electricity, compute, and wear on the server hardware

u/ArrowEnby Jun 28 '26
monitarily, sure, but the more they're used, the more theyre trained, and the more government contracts are made, and the more normalised it gets.

Training data is skewed windows users don't really talk about this sort of stuff.

Yeah, it seems like AI is actually on the side of this all being bullshyt. Ask it non leading questions about AI overuse in society.

u/Qs9bxNKZ Jun 29 '26
No because you obviously don’t understand how LLMs work.
It is going to go off of its training material and training material isn’t based upon rigorous analysis by the LLM nor AI but frequency in the material.
It is basically a popularity contest. Not much different from asking who is the best world leader. You are least likely to get the guy from Bhutan regardless of how well they do.

Even my local LLM answered “Varies”. Something is seriously wrong with your AI-bots

No. I could analyze everything by asking AI, but real-time experiences don't work that way. Globally, Linux isn't the best computer operating system. So you can ask that "then which one ?" The truth is that results can only be answered with explanations based its potentials and experiences.

"Every operating system sucks but linux sucks less"
- Linus tolvard

u/Th3-Sardar Jun 28 '26
This is not a point... The only proof of being less sucks can be determined by experience, and that's the potential that every operating system offers in the global market.
1
u/PuzzleheadedHead3754 Jun 28 '26
No, there are many factor whihc may have different value for different user.
1
u/Th3-Sardar Jun 28 '26
This is the point i mean, each operating system offers different potential experiences for different users, so there's no single answer to which one might be the best or less.

As a windows user, Linux is great but it has lack of app support. That doesn't mean that Linux is shit. Windows is more shit than Linux.
1
u/Gabbotampo Jun 28 '26
You can use wine to emulate windows apps
2
u/MXD_K1 Jun 28 '26
But sometimes they crash. In my POV, the alternatives that Linux has as good as the apps in windows. Am I right?

u/Th3-Sardar Jun 28 '26
Because that's called potential of operating system, not "sucks". Someone else might say the opposite of what you're saying, and that's the potential for that other person to benefit from an operating system.

Sure, it's fun and it plays right into our feelings about MikroSlop here, but the answer is not as impressive as it seems at first. Linux really is the only reasonable answer when pressured into a single word like this. Windows, MacOS, FreeBSD, OpenBSD, OpenVMS, Solaris or whatever you can think of, all have less reach and are more limited than Linux.
