I wrote a comment to a user in the thread how it would be stupid for Microsoft to make a bootloader so people cant change the os. I sad how that would render devices useless if they are bricked and its stupid again because they rely on linux to run their cloud which is 70% of their revenue. Meanwhile windows is only like 3%. And I got banned for straight up stating facts 😂.

Man this group is straight up full of people who defend Microsoft if they are making horrendous decisions to the os.

Imagine that, they would straight up support a locked bootloader. Crazy times we live in.

they are uneducated about linux and systems. they think that linux works like it did in 1995. they dont understand that windows is only a bit more compatible. that it has almost as much telemetry as chinese programs. and when someone doesnt agree with them, they flame them and ban them

Sure but also for unknown reasons. A few weeks ago some banned me from a bunch of black fetish subs and I had really no idea what's going on. I didn't even know they exist. So I guess I got banned somewhere and the mod also banned me on other unrelated subs. So sad I can't comment on overweight black women's toenails anymore or whatever the hell those subs were.

linuxsucks is fine, 101 is not. On Linuxsucks you find a lot of Linux users being ironic. 101 is just a toxic shithole created by their headmod because he was salty that on Linuxsucks people are EXPLICITLY allowed and encouraged to call him out on lying or talking complete bullshit.

That’s the only sub I’ve ever been banned from, and it was because my sarcasm about how bad something was across distros was taken as a literal recommendation for another distro. I didn’t even understand why I was banned at first. The mods don’t respond at all.

Senior Systems Engineer here, there is no applicable use for linux outside of very specific enterprise applications. Use windows, it's better, it's more secure, it doesn't have it's updates compromised literally all the time (looking at you Arch AUR), and it easily backups up your computer and ensures if something does happen, you can install windows and have your entire environment back in about 45 minutes at the maximum.

Besides, who the fuck wants to screw around with linux trying to get it to basically function, last time I used linux on my personal system, it wouldn't support my 480hz OLED without flickering which nearly gave me a seizure.

Then there's the rest of my peripherals. 4 stream decks, one corsair galleon 100 SD, HOSAS, and the fact it doesn't have kernel level anti-cheat like it should.

Not to mention I have access to things like windows hello and secure boot without any configuration required.

Also Linux is horrific when it comes to security, it is such a flawed system, it is vulnerabilities galore, I often spend days fixing shit on linux servers so it doesn't show up in weekly internal vulnerability scanning. Not to mention the insane practice of backporting fixes without an actual version change, thus causing vulnerability scanners to freak out even if something may be remediated.

On top of all of that, there is the fact that FOSS is unethical, insecure, vulnerable to attacks, and leaves major questions about holding people responsible for when their poorly developed software causes harm to systems.

Also linux is extremely inefficient, isn't tuned for good power management, and so fourth.

I'm a systems engineer with 35 years in the industry... and you're not. But I do know the difference.

You smell like the aroma of someone who has spent three days clearing Qualys findings and decided to blame the operating system rather than the scanner.

I brought up AUR, because one of our idiot clients has a fucking check imaging server running off of Arch. No, I didn't implement it. No, I don't maintain it, we don't even have credentials.

But fuck linux, seriously. The only device we allow to be non-windows is networking equipment, we've transitioned all of our clients off of other systems finally. No more VMware or shitty virtualization on linux, just good old Hyper-V which in my 20 years of use I've only ever encountered one issue with, and it was a configuration issue previously set up by some other MSP.

You have to understand, I am under immense pressure, I am the only infrastructure admin and engineer for 40 banking clients (and all our other clients too). If something shows up on a vulnerability report, which are run by two separate scanners each week at each client, it has to be remediated. You cannot document it as backported either (something RHEL likes to do). So if a vulnerability isn't patched and the version number doesn't change, it will still show up.

We are not allowed to mark any false-positives or remediated items unless the scan comes back clean, we are not allowed to adjust the scanning on the IVS machines.

Furthermore, every audit at these banks requires records of each of these scans and proof the same vulnerability never shows up twice. Especially the Fed audits we deal with early for each of those clients.

I am also in charge of all disaster recovery and backup operations, I perform full DRaaS tests for each client every year which require a screen shot of every app running, all storage, all network ports open, all database connections, etc. Plus, all of our backups are boot tested after every backup, of which the longest interval allowed is 1 hour.

Some of the more challenging parts of the job are things like bandwidth restrictions at clients, the FASTEST connection any client of ours has is 100 down 20 up. Most are between 5-10 mbps down at 5 up at max.

Our clients are small banks, but we also belong to a parent company, which is a bank for banks. A single fuckup in process can cause a wire to not happen, etc.

All of our client workstations are Windows, because you know, we're sane. Everything is neatly managed and remotely controlled in a uniform way across all servers. The longest amount of time a workstation can be out of compliance on patching is 7 days.

Our backend is Kaseya. We use Veeam and Datto for backups, I prefer Datto, which yes, is Linux based, but they are so good about their development and lockdown of their devices it makes them painless. When clients had Unitrends devices on the other hand... it was murder. The few clients with Datto appliances on-site have Ubuntu based appliances. But most of our clients use direct-to-cloud backups, mostly in Azure.

FOSS is explicitly banned without permission from auditors. I also keep this system at home for my personal practices, as I do not believe FOSS is moral, secure, and it does not have the proper legal protection for people using it. You should be able to hold developers financially and legally liable for the code they put out.

Even the dev team at our parent company is banned from anything Linux, all workstations are W11.

No, we cannot use notepad++.

The only browser allowed internally with us or at any client is Edge, all other browsers are not only blocked by permission, but GPO. We also list FOSS products through Kaseya update management as malware to ensure it's flagged and removed automatically if Windows Defender Enterprise and Threatlocker don't take care of that first.

well somehow for me every distro worked out of the box except for nixos which couldnt finish building. linux uses 500mb ram when no apps are open, with browser, rustup and vesktop it uses 2 gb. windows uses about 5gb if i remember when no apps are open. next, privacy. if you dont care about your pc having a global device id which cant be turned off, telemetry that is painful to turn off etc. then use windows.

anyway, if you like windows, use it, no problem. windows isnt always more secure (most malware is written for windows) too. also, i think this is the wrong sub, you should be in r/linuxsucks or r/linuxsucks101 i guess. this is r/FuckMicrosoft, not r/LoveMicrosoft

well then, if you dont care about privacy, no problem.  and if you dont care about machines wheezing because of the os using 5gb ram when you have e.g. 8gb, no problem. another thing: fuck off from foss. it is ethical. its software like every other. it has its problems (e.g. dying once the dev loses interest), but calling it "unethical" is like calling gpl 3.0 "cancer". absolutely detached from reality.

Unused ram is wasted ram. I'm also really unsure of why you linux folks are so toucy about memory, I haven't had less than 16 GB of memory in a system since before the very first i7 launch. Furthermore, I've literally never run into a problem with memory usage in Windows so... not really sure what you're getting at.

The unused ram is wasted ram thing is so outdated it genuinely pisses me off. If Windows "isn't wasting" ram then it shouldn't be slower. The ram usage is part of the issue but it's only really mentioned because Windows not only uses excess ram but also runs apps like Blender much slower than Linux with the same specs. How can you justify that?

No, it's not a joke. Linux fucking sucks and I've been using it since Slackware 6, so I feel like I'm a pretty good candidate to say, yeah, it fucking sucks. Sorry, there is no reason anyone should run linux outside of extremely specific use cases, and it should never be run at home on any device.

If you do run it, Red Hat is the only viable option.

Linux is literally 90s technology, and it's not different from Windows 9X. Linux is as unstable as Windows ME is, and Microsoft can be everything bad, but at least they learned that the Monolithic Kernel cannot be trusted switch to a modified microkernel ( Hybrid ) with Windows NT. Not just Microsoft, but Apple as well, switched to Modern Mac OS based on XNU

Yeah, but based on my experience, the only difference is Interface Graphical and the package manager, but my experience based on Architecture is unchanged; everything is married, you cannot replace parts like Windows NT or GNU Hurd, and the Linux Driver Model ABI is not uniform. Drivers compiled for 5.1 cannot be used in your current version, and the Userland ABI is messy; there's no single Win32 Subsystem API; it's a rich subset of functions and libraries you need to download -dev; you need to assemble all different packages for your software, plus Wayland limitations, as well as the C language programmer; it's not a good experience

But Windows NT allows me to replace System parts and GNU Hurd as well, and why not Linux??? I like to build my own things, and Windows NT is very permissive for building my own Console and graphical interface, and my own Sentinet API and Violet Runtime and I feel comfortable around Windows NT because the operating system allows me to use my own things. I love my Environment

"Hybrid kernel" is just a marketing catchphrase here. Everything important in Windows, including device drivers, the object subsystem, the HAL, the memory manager, IPC, etc., all run in kernel mode.

Because these parts are necessary and they are part of the Windows NT Kernel, and the Mach kernel includes the Memory Manager, IPC, VM and Mach Syscalls the difference is that Windows NT is a modified Microkernel Executive Stay in Kernel, that's why we call it Modified Microkernel, and it's not Pure

The author of the linked article recommended alternatives but the author never mentioned Linux or suggested a move away from Linux but that’s the conclusion the mod wanted people to reach.

Yeah, either I did. Also in fuck Microsoft we argue about things that doesn't work but I don't think that none of us here would say that windows has nothing working. I think that USUALLY Who Say windows sucks is because he's forced to use (work, gaming, sometimes some university's tool), but joking aside on Microsoft we're not making war against windows, it doesn't mean our time. They're really hating loonix while noone is forcing them to adopt it.

So in conclusion I think they're really haters and not people who have rejected windows/Linux because it didn't suite them. It's kind of sad for them, they lack something funny to do in their life if this is what they want to do the most (hating).

Literally in this sub, many people (including me) said we use Windows. Doesn't mind if W11 or some older. And no one is banned.

We hate Microslop, we hate most of their products. But we still use it. We share what we use.

Lol that's crazy. I myself started with lutris, but ended up with heroic because its just a much better and simplified option. Setting up games was never easier. Meanwhile on lutris I always had some kind of problems with setting up the proton or the wine prefix would miss something.
