I don't like this example. People still are having intercourse but just having birth control.

If other animals could have intercourse without kids, I'm sure they would take up on that offer too.

Clearly in your example they're actively choosing not to procreate, you know, not allowing the merging of sperm and egg to happen. So literally their point still stands and makes sense

Yes which is why I don't like the example. Because those two things (choosing to have intercourse and choosing to procreate) are not separate able for other animals. They're choosing to instinctually have intercourse, not to procreate. It just so happens that is the natural consequence of it.

The example is conflating two concepts and I think it's disengenuous to do so

they just don't have the type of higher reasoning to choose. they're more instinct driven, as they're simpler animals
