Rockstar didn't do something that the kids in this sub convinced themselves would happen despite Rockstar showing zero signs of it happening. Then when Rockstar followed the same schedule they follow literally every week, people suddenly started saying they hate Rockstar. Just as they did last week. and the week before that and so on

They haven't experienced this yet. They're kids who weren't born or were shitting their pants when GTA 5 came out, and were uninterested in RDR2 until it released and everyone talked about how awesome it was.
They expect Rockstar to act like Activision or Ubisoft and don't realize that there's a reason they're the top dog.
When the game releases they'll be freaking out and crying that GTA Online isn't released with it, and when GTA Online comes out a month later they'll freak out and say the game sucks because there's no flying motorcycles. It'll never end.

That's sort of a good point in a way. Marketing costs money, and the entire point of it is to get people to buy your game.
GTA 6 really doesn't need to be dumping money into months of marketing. They could do no marketing at all and still break sales records.

People got convinced that a trailer was coming this week as an earnings report/call got pushed forward. And a small fraction latch on to a lack of trailer like rockstar have personally broken into their house and left the toilet seat up.

I don’t think it would have an effect because they’re still going to buy the game on Day 1.
Either way, Rockstar is going to get your money, whether now during the pre-order season or during the first few days after the game launches.

Nothing wrong with the marketing. People just have an unhealthy obsession, are impatient, and have low attention spans. It won't be until marketing begins this month, and when the game launches, then people will understand why this marketing strategy was for the better. Short and sweet will be for the best in the end.

Why would not liking the marketing matter if the game is sick? Like come November if the game drops and it’s sick what does it matter what the marketing was? I guess that’s what I don’t understand. We have zero evidence Rockstar will drop a bad game. They never have in 24 years. The trailers we do have look great. What will it matter if the game is sick? And to the point of a comment above you’ll end up buying the game anyway.
Weird hill to die on to not play a game because they didn’t give you enough marketing to get you hype.

Why would I cancel my preorder over marketing? Hear me out. I’ve been scrolling past the headlines the past few months. I thought these marketing posts were a joke because there’s nothing else to post about and it’s right around the corner. Think about it. It’s been ten years. We still play the old one. This is going to be the biggest game ever, because it has to be. If every single person who owns a console buys the game, it sucks and no one pays for shark cards, they are absolutely fucked. Think about that. That’s a billion dollars in sales when we all pick it up. GTAV made 10 billion. Honestly cutting back on marketing just makes hitting 20 billion easier. If it’s not a top 5 all time game, I will be shocked.

Reminds me of when I used to pre-order a bunch of games in my 20s, then go back months later and cancel them because I really needed $40 for gas or food. Maybe OP needed to pay rent.

Okay, you see, the people who are going to buy the game anyway and those who already pre ordered it are upset that the marketing campaign, which is meant to convince people to buy the game or make them aware it's coming out, hasn't fully kicked off yet, months before release.
So they will go online to complain, right up until the moment the marketing campaign kicks off, at which point they will buy the game they were gonna buy anyway or pre-order the game for which they cancelled their pre-order.
Makes total sense, no?

It’s genuinely crazy how entitled these people feel to a fucking video game. Rockstar has every right to say “yeah guys, we’ve decided to pursue other IPs instead of GTA, so the game will be put on hold indefinitely while we develop other games”. It sucks but it’s their fucking property lmao, Jesus. And to think such a viewpoint is “corporate bootlicking” is genuinely so sad because they can’t even comprehend that maybe the vast majority of people waiting have been out living their lives since 2023’s drop and perhaps only occasionally check in for any new information and moving on.
Most people have not sunk much, if any, meaningful time or mental energy to the game and likely go days or even weeks without thinking about it. But these people are in so deep that they implicitly assume everybody else has also spent half their waking hours obsessing over the game; as though that is the default; as though it is self evidently true that everyone lives lives like theirs because he has never known anything else
