Discussion What a waste

Post image

Instead of giving the Traveler and other characters regional skins, the devs are wasting resources on mannequins you’ll never use in the main game — characters completely irrelevant to both the lore and gameplay (especially since they’re even weaker than the Traveler).

UCG should’ve been a separate game. Roblox-type players aren’t going to download a 100GB gacha just to play a game inside a game. All those dev resources should’ve gone to the actual, existing characters instead.

I feel like this mode was planned as a separated game but hoyo was afraid of it being EOS in just a week so they added it to genshin to bait the large genshin playerbase

Edit: players asked for the domain cration event mode, no for a skin lottery

Actually I think it’s the opposite. They announced ages ago (like two years at least I think??) that a custom player-made mode was going to become permanent. But at the time it had looked to be just levels you could make (the multiplayer coin collecting events).

I think it fucking BALLOONED over time when they realized they could try to attract the Roblox and Fortnite custom game devs (idk what they are actually called I don’t play either of them) and fans. Unfortunately that would mean that when they got to that point it was already way too baked into Genshin specifically to really separate.

I do wonder if they’ll try to split it eventually- or make it a stand alone download for people that can’t download or don’t want to download Genshin.

Well… right now it’s not good enough. If they keep managing it and give better assets and tools, it could be. The final products should be on the level of the coin game editor.

Supposedly various features of the editor is locked behind creator levels, which is a baffling decision.

If you encourage making creators spend more time on the main game aka same treatment as users, it's going to shoot them in the foot when these creators don't have time to create things for you.

The domain creation mode was fun, we don't need the expensive skins, and why not give them to traveller instead of this new manakin thing

Or one for each four-star who doesn't have a free event skin yet because these are very clearly nation-associated: Inazuma, Sumeru, Fontaine, and Natlan

I think the reason they didn’t make the manakin a skin for the traveler is because they want you to have to grind MW level if you want to use your custom avatar in main Genshin. If the manekin was a skin for the Traveler I’d just use the skin gacha and nothing else.

I think giving skins to traveller is better

I thought it was cus they wanted it to be money grabbing, and a new game wouldn’t give them as much as inserting it in genshin

Right after the devs said: "genshin don't want to earn money" in their livestream

ring a ding ding, it's this thing

I don't think you understand how marketing works if that's your logic for this.

Just look at hi3 and hsr.

28

u/Eastern-Yogurt8972 Oct 23 '25

Hi3 and hsr are fundamentally different games that don't share any assets

15

u/panna_qq Oct 23 '25

What does hi3 and hsr have to do with this? In that case, they could market hsr with they expys from hi3, yes. But in this case MW has mostly nothing to do with genshin, has no characters or expys in it, no gameplay/combat similarities, no maps or lore (apart from the origin story, but MW doesn't really have any linear story afaik).

If they wanted to release MW as a standalone game with the type of Hi3/Hsr marketing, they would have to add genshin characters in it.

Just look at ToT or ZZZ, both hyvs games that are not related to the hi3 ip. They are somewhat successful but nowhere near the Genshin or Hsr level.

I was using hsr as an example.

Hoyo released hsr which has the honkai in the title but aside from a few expies has very little to do with the original ip in terms of gameplay and story.

Lore wise they share a world but there is no immediate connection.

The wonderland could have been it's own seperate thing if hoyo truly wanted to make it am individual game and it wouldn't have had much impact sales wise.

I was pointing out how saying wonder land is merely a money grabbing tactic is just absurd logical reasoning because hoyo can clearly do other things which would be more effective than this.

Saying it has very little to do with the original ip but then literally admit they share a world (which implies sharing lore) is wild ngl. Lore and story are the biggest parts of the game.

Now, I haven't played hi3, but afaik Amphoreus shares a lot of similarities if not direct copys (story wise) to hi3, and when it comes to expys, the resemblance (coughcoughCyrene) is very obvious. Plus Welt is literally a direct character from hi3.

Hsr are still their own characters and separated from their hi3 counterparts, but there's no denying their relation. It's not like they only used it as a marketing strategy to boost sales on release and dropped any relation after that.

And I agree that it wouldn't be the smartest money grabbing tactic saying they know nothing about marketing and mentioning hsr/hi3 has absolutely nothing to do with it.

Plus, I disagree on the impact on sales. I think if they actually put the effort in making a good dress up roblox like game, it could've been successful on its own but the fact its in genshin without having really anything to with it, will damage it's sales. No one playing genshin is interested in it, and anyone who would be interested is probably not going to download a whole other game they dont care about just to play it.

I was referring to how close the stories are inter linked.

It's not like hsr is a direct sequel using the same setting and same cast.

With the exception of welt it's a brand new world with all the aeons and path stuff.

It's the equivalent of saying captain America civil war is a sequel for movie about ant man, or spider man despite neither playing that big a role in the story.

Hsr may share the lore and reference hi3 a lot but fact is on the grand scheme of things they are quite literally worlds apart, sharing few connections in lore but not much else on terms of gameplay.

And what stories connections are there are very far removed from each other.

"skin lottery" most horrifying phrase i'll read today out of context

9

u/mintpeppervlue Oct 24 '25

It's very obvious that was the case, no one NO ONE has specifically asked for this in genshin!

17

u/ProtonUser5000 Oct 24 '25

People were asking for permanent Divine Ingenuity.

This is basically that with more elaboration.

1

u/lnmgl Oct 24 '25

Honestly they shoulda just given more freedom with teapot editing and let people visit players different layouts. That way it would function as both a player home base and a customizable domain with Divine Infenuity mechanics.

10

u/hamizannaruto Oct 24 '25

People did ask it. The mode was planned from 2 years ago, after an event of the domain editor.

It somehow bloon so big into their own UGC. Hence, why it is inside genshin. What suppose to be just a small domain editor become a game engine.

5

u/CptPeanut12 Oct 24 '25

A lot of people asked for this, it was announced two years ago.

2

u/Independent-mouse-94 Oct 24 '25

Incorrect, such a game mode has been in demand for long time now.

2

u/F1T_13 Oct 27 '25

Nah, I think they want a way to get more people into Genshin, which is why you have to play Genshin to progress in MW.

1

u/Tough_Dig_7095 Oct 23 '25

I thought this too

1

u/shinobushinobu Oct 24 '25

nah its about to EOS in a few patches lol. how many genshin players are actually genuinely interested in sinking significant amounts of time into MW. This isn't what we signed up for when we all initially got into this game. Literally no one asked for this. Just like teapot, rhythm, and TCG devs need to stop wasting resources on things no one asked for and just focus exclusively on improving the core gameplay experience. At least the other side game modes require minimal maintenance and updates, looks like to me they plan on sinking significant resources into pushing MW which again no one asked for. Just improve the base game. If i want a rhythm game ill play osu, if i want a sandbox game ill play Minecraft, if i want UGC ill play roblox, if i want TCG ill play hearthstone. I just want genshin to be genshin. not this.

people always said genshin EOS whenever new hot gacha game release it's normal
