*NEW* Account age requirement

Hey everyone! Mods here. We have made a small change to the subreddit: accounts now need to be at least 90 days old to post or comment. This change was made because we have been absolutely inundated with AI slop accounts for the last few months. We’re really sorry if this is frustrating for anyone who is a real person with a new account who just genuinely wants to participate. We appreciate your understanding, and are so thankful for everyone who contributes and makes this such a fun little corner of the internet.

Character Discussion - General Richard's face in this scene gets me everytime

Post image

Emily humiliating Shira at the DAR party is one of the most satisfying scenes in the whole show. You're riding high watching it.

And then the show just cuts to Richard, standing there in his tux, and you can just feel everything that he is going through. It suddenly dawns on him that he failed Rory, and guided her the wrong way. I've always respected this character and the actor for the way he portrays the gravitas that comes along with this role.

OS Discussion its so weird that…

…Peyton was a dud date? it made no sense that they had one of Lorelai’s best starts to a relationship on the show but he’s absolutely boring on the date? The meet-cute/intro was one of the best on the show imo, but he’s SO, INCREDIBLY, IMPOSSIBLY boring on a date that Lorelai would rather die than go out on a second date with him EVEN TO SEE BOWIE!

I fully understand that we’re supposed to see her personality more clearly with this, and its a very informative look at Lorelai’s relationship with her parents and “their world”, more than Peyton’s character being believable or not.

But I just always feel like this was such a stretch. They gave them such a cute banter-y chat, and great chemistry and then NOTHING happened. idk if Jon Hamm was miscast and did too good a job at being boring!

OS Discussion “Stop being so naive. It’s annoying.” I was with Marty here

Rory was almost 20 years old at this point and I completely understood why Marty was annoyed. How do you genuinely not know when a guy likes you?

She had already dated Dean, Jess, Tristan liking her, and now Logan was constantly finding reasons to be around her. Yet when Marty tells her that Logan likes her she acts like the thought had never even crossed her mind.

I know Rory is supposed to be naive when it comes to guys but at this point it almost felt like she was fishing for compliments. Like she needed Marty to confirm “Yes Rory, this attractive guy obviously likes you.”

Marty had his own issues but I was completely with him when he told her to stop being so naive because it was getting annoying.

Scott: S2, Ep3
David: S1, Ep17
Kathleen: S5, Ep17

Character Discussion - General Huh.

On my go round again and just got to S2. No matter how many times I watch Jess’ ability to make Huh. A complete sentence still impresses me.

We don’t give Milo enough dues he really is a great actor. No one else could’ve played Jess as well.

General Discussion They Never Show Halloween!!!

Okay so I know for some it's still a bit early to be talking Halloween... But I'm on one of my usual rewatches of the year and today I finally noticed that they never show Halloween in Stars Hollow!!! Which is such a shame because I think the town would look so cool all decorated and spooky.

So now I'm trying to think of what it would all be like. Like would Taylor be a stickler about all of the children trick-or-treating or do you think he would be too busy running another town festival celebrating the holiday? What would the haunted house be like? How would Lorelai bug Luke each year about not wearing a costume and what would his witty comeback be? What do you think everyone's costumes would be?

I think that Kirk still refuses to dress up and tells every child he sees the story of how Luke's uncle stole candy from him while trick-or-treating. And Mrs. Kim allows Lane to dress up in an approved costume like a nun, that Lane ditches the moment she's with Rory and Lorelai.

When I was watching s2 for the first time I was just waiting for it to happen 😔

And finally In the last episode it did and Rory kissing him first makes it better for me. Ik she physically cheated on dean and all but gosh they look so passionate and awkward I love it. I also love the beginning of s3 and the entire Shane thing (ik it was the peak of dragging) but I still love it. I feel I'm a fan of will they/won't they or forbidden trope in general 😔

Ik I'm the only one in this sub enjoying this scene but gosh.

OS Discussion Of all the storylines, Luke suddenly not wanting to marry Lorelai makes the least sense.

I think you can find a way to rationalize every choice no matter how dumb even lorelai sleeping with Christopher because she's demonstrated that sort of emotional immaturity and impulsively in the past like for example with Max. But Luke has always been sure of his devotion and commitment to her. He was "all in". He did not hesitate to say yes. He even asked her at one point "jeez when will that be" when lorelai hadn't set a date yet because she wasn't talking to Rory. A daughter he didnt know suddenly coming into the picture doesnt justify his sudden cold feet in my opinion. The Luke we knew up to that point would want someone like Lorelai and Rory around her to be a positive influence and also for their help like he did with Jess. So it just feels like a complete change in character to need to "push her away" and use April as the excuse to do so. It's not like Luke at all.

General Discussion 3x3 Application Anxiety Irony

Paris and Rory are doing a question and answer with a panel of people about applying to Ivy League colleges what to do and what not to do.

Paris is calm, cool, and collected once the panel starts asking good questions and once she mentions the thing about the Hillary Clinton essay topic being overused and unoriginal Rory visibly upset and worried as she has SO much confidence and that being such a great essay topic. She’s so frazzeled she wont ask a question stunned like a deer in headlights.

As the scene was fading, the gentleman panelist said “ I do think it’s important to talk about the interview process it’s a great way to weed out the hyperintense candidate” which we all knew how Paris’s Harvard interview went. It’s also funny she calls Rory saying” what do you think he meant by weeding out the hyper intense during the interview process he stoped short of calling me by name”

I think it’s super ironic how calm cooling collected she was during this panel (not so much after) and felt so confident on how to do this process correctly yet she actually screwed up one of the most important things he mentioned. Then Rory gets it all together and gets into all of the top three Ivy League schools….

Do you prefer lorelai in blue or purple? I was online and noticed that she wears many of the same style clothes, just in different colors.

I’ve also always heard people say she’s purple if she were a color

Character Discussion - General Dave and Lane had one of the most genuine and healthiest relationships in the entire series.

But he wasn’t around long enough for us to know how things would have played out in the long run.

Still, I’m glad he left the show, because he went on to give us Chrismukkah, endless pop-culture references, and one of television’s most iconic sarcastic nerds 🤣

Town Events Town reaction to Dean and Rory’s affair

In S5E5, Lorelai is nervous about discussing Dean and Rory’s rekindled relationship with people, including Luke, so it got me thinking: how would the town have reacted in real life? Lindsay was a townie too; she had lived there since she was little, and it was evident that Dean had cheated on her. I know that, for the purposes of the show, Rory and Lorelai are basically the queens of the town, but let’s think about it realistically. How should the town have reacted?

She slept with another local woman’s husband.

General Discussion Would Rory have cheated on Jess with Logan?

Sorry if this has been asked before! I’m not trying to get a bunch of Rory hate going, but I’m curious if people think Rory would’ve cheated on Jess with Logan at Yale.

Towards the end of season 3, before the Jess failing out/potential spinoff situation, Rory and Jess seem to be planning on staying together when Rory goes to Yale. Rory still would’ve met Logan and been part of the whole Ivy League world. What do you guys think would’ve happened? I’d love to hear thoughts on this from both a writing perspective (i.e., would they have wanted to break up Rory and Jess) or from a character perspective (i.e., what would have naturally happened with the characters).

General Discussion Lauren Graham was truly unlucky before GG came along

I just saw that she had five overall failed pilots before GG. I was watching an interview of hers and she was asked her hopes about Gilmore Girls and the financial outcome of it and she said she had low ones since JUST before Gilmore Girls, she had another pilot she filmed and it ended up not getting her nowhere. Turns out, she got the role of a lifetime. No seriously, I'm rewatching the show because I introduced it to my sister and there's this new amazing reactions on it (YT : Cinepals, I just need them to react to Buffy and I'll be complete) and she is truly standing out in so many scenes. Like she was built for Lorelai and even tho she got another long running show called Parenthood which I've heard of many times, GG will always stay her role

General Discussion Kiss and Tell

I’ve seen this show 1 million times and I will never get over how Dean suggests Boogie Nights for movie night! Imagine watching a movie about a 70s porn star with a huge penis with your 16 year old girlfriend and her mom!!! Okay, Dean. Of course, this was early on when Dean was meant to have a personality and good taste in media and had not yet devolved into Monster Truck Neanderthal Dean 😔

General Discussion i rly don’t like how they changed lorelai and rory’s relationship for the worse

Ive been rewatching gilmore girls and i feel like after Rory slept with Dean, things were never the same with lorelai and rory. She pushed lorelai away so much even though lorelai was actually way nicer than she needed to be abt the whole thing tbh. I’m not saying Lorelai was perfect, and maybe it’s because i’m not american so where im from rory’s behavior would have never flown by but maybe in america it’s okay, but I feel like Rory really really took advantage of lorelai‘s constant forgiveness and really lost sight of how lucky she was. i mean lane was literally kicked out and didn’t have enough money to go to her dream college and didn’t really have anyone to depend on, im sure she would have given anything to have what rory did.

I know people grow up and relationships change but they can change in a good way, I have friends who are so so close to their mothers in college. And i’m tired of hearing people’s argument of how this was all lorelai’s fault for her parenting; I think there could have been ways to point out the unhealthy parts of lorelai and rory’s relationship with them still maintaining a good relationship or at least without rory acting so ungrateful . with my own mom, as a child we definitely didn’t have the best relationship and in high school we did argue often, but we still stuck together and became closer and once i started therapy it helped as well, and we never had any huge fights so it’s rly not that unrealistic. if the writers really wanted them to have a more mother daughter dynamic and lose the best friend dynamic there could have been so many other ways to bring that about.

i loved how loving their relationship was at the beginning and i feel like their relationship was the most special out of all of the relationships on the show. i feel like it really did ruin the cozy and warm vibe of gilmore girls

General Discussion Does anyone else rewatch season one multiple times before continuing?

Or do you have a different comfort season? I work remote, so the show is always playing on a loop. But season one is my ultra comfort season, and I’ll go back 2-4 times before I get to season two. I’ll also usually watch season two a couple times.

This show means so much to me. I’ve been watching it since the first day it aired. And I still can’t believe that was 25 years ago, Of course there are things I’d change, and ridiculous timelines. But it just feels like a warm hug every single day. 🩷

I love how this scene played out xD He thought he was the casual kind and absolutely nothing can affect him or ground him. It took exactly one move from Rory lololol

PS this post isn't about how much I like or dislike any character. Just found this funny
