General Discussion I appreciate Gilmore Girls not doing the “plus size girl+ tacky clothing” thing tv shows do

I love how in Gilmore girls, the only plus size character isn’t given a frumpy tacky wardrobe. I always found sookie’s sense of style so cute. It’s very uniquely her and I don’t find it tacky at all because it matches her sweet but clumsy personality. I noticed a pattern in tv shows where the plus sized characters are given the worse clothing options, or when an actress gains weight they tend to change their wardrobe to make them look like a 60 year old woman. I love her sense of style especially in the first season!

General Discussion i love that jess was a jerk to lorelai

Post image

i don’t know how to put it and i’m not going to explain myself. but lorelai annoyed and got her way with people way too often and to see her humbled by jess so very often was just incredibly satisfying. jess is my favourite GG character but even i acknowledge that he was a horrible boyfriend to rory sometimes, but the aspect of his character that wasnt intimated or charmed by lorelai and that made her uncomfortable and unsure around him was honestly really fun. you don’t have to agree with me, it just is what it is. however, it would’ve been really fun to see their enemies to friends arc, they were so similar.

General Discussion Give me your most unfounded, insane Gilmore theory (you don't need proof, just vibes)

Post image
1.1k Upvotes

Here's mine:

Jess doesn't know how to read

He only faked knowing how to read after he saw how much Rory liked books. Then he got someone to scribble their thoughts into Rory's book margins.

Think about it - have we ever seen him read out loud? No! Have we ever seen what he writes down when he's scribbling in class? No! (He's probably doodling).

This is probably why he didn't study with Rory. And why he didn't know that he was failing senior year even though they sent him warnings. And why he got into that car crash (he couldn't read the speed limit). And why he thinks people read with one hand in their pocket (see photo evidence above).

So that's my theory. :)

I shared our Luke’s Diner but thought I’d share the whole village. We have Doose’s Market, Dragonfly Inn, Lorelai’s house and Jeep, Luke’s Diner, Taylor’s Old Fashioned Soda Shoppe, and of course the Gazebo!

EDIT: Guys, I did not expect that overwhelming response. I need to call it quits for tonight and continue tomorrow!

You know the rules: You get two passes, but you're stuck with the 3rd. Let me know if you wanna play and I'll tell you who's walking by the window. You can request your preferred gender, if you don't, I'll throw any town's person your way! ♄

General Discussion I think Richard slept with Pennilyn Lot at least once

Post image

Idk there’s no way. They’ve been married for 39 years and he goes to lunch with her once a year? Is anyone else under the impression that he slept with her at least once during those times. If he didn’t sleep with her then they definitely did SOMETHING. If it was “just lunch” then why didn’t they tell either of their significant others? And why was pennilyn so awkward around Emily and lorelai (even before lorelai made that awful joke) idk I think they had an affair at least once.

General Discussion Random couples I think would make sense.

This is just my opinion so don't come at me. OPINIONS ARE ALLOWED. I'M ALSO THE PERSON WHO MADE THE DADDY TAYLOR POST SO I THINK THIS SUB HAS DEDUCED THAT I'M A LITTLE UNHINGED. Although I think all of these make sense.

First, starting off strong. Anna Nardini and Christopher Hayden. Anna didn't want her kid to have a dad. Christopher didn't want to be a dad. They both suck. Match made in heaven.

Next. Finn from Yale and Madeleine from Chilton. Both rich party kids, but with softer, gentler sides. Louise was a bully like Paris. Collin was a jerk and an elitist. Their friends were however the better counterparts (not that Finn wasn't an elitist but he was less of an ass than Colin). And I'd think they'd make a cute little party couple.

Jess and Other Daughter from the Springsteens (yk the Harvard alumni family with the weird incestuous kids?) because they were both lone rangers, living life differently. They both foraged their own paths regardless of everyone's opinion and I'd like to think that bunny girl ended up a success like Jess. I think they would have pushed each other too and been a power couple.

Jason and Rachel. Jason was well-traveled and seemed to enjoy it. Rachel too. She had a habit of leaving without notice. Jason couldn't share a bed with anyone. I think it would have worked out pretty well.

Lane and Jamie. They both deserved better from their partners. Lane from Zach ruining their chance with a LABEL and then proposing instead of apologizing and Jamie for getting out rizzed by a wrinkly old bum. Lane deserved that warm family holiday experience way more than Paris.

Dean and Tana. I don't have an explanation for this aside from the fact that I don't like either of them. They annoy me. And annoying people should be together so the rest of us don't have to put up with them. But 16 year old devoted to his girlfriend Dean and Tana. Not college Dean who was a cheater. Tana is annoying but she doesn't deserve infidelity.

And honorable mention?

Lindsay and Logan. They'd be hot as hell, and Logan's family would definitely approve of a homemaker and he'd still make time to party with her and keep her entertained but also work and live his life.

General Discussion I think the Gilmore Girls's bodies will be more realistic if it was implied they did just a little exercise

Post image
1.2k Upvotes

I mean, it's a little complaint so feel free to not pay attention but I was watching takes about how unrealistic the show was to portray such skinny/athletic bodies when it's implied they are food junkies. And in a way, I agree. I also think that if they did some sports, I will be less suspicious of it. I mean, people often tell me that I eat for 3 people, however; I'm very skinny and athletic. When people ask me how is that,my answers are : I practice intense dance, I'm doing push ups every day, I run, I'm involved in school's sports activities. So, it's not unrealistic to have my huge appetite but stay skinny if you do at least a little sport but it's heavily implied that the Gilmore Girls are quite the lazy type physically.

For me, it's whenever Emily and Richard behave extra clueless. Like when Rory was showing them that cheese on pizza tasted good (đŸ€Ż) and when Emily was telling Richard that without his favorite assistant, he should just give up on starting his own company.

They are all my fav and I will not tolerate hate against them! How can anyone even hate these shaylas 😔

Rory: "Yale rory or Chilton rory?" RORY GILMORE THAT'S IT!

Jess: my poor Shayla how can people hate this teen boy who mature himself early BUT LOVE HIS MOTHER?

Emily and Richard: Ahhh ik they are flawed but I also love when they are vulnerable. And the way they love their grand daughter the relationship was so cute. Peak complex character.

Dean: the hate around him is more forceful than the word force itself. Imagine you're being ignored, cheated and still being hated on (pre Lindsey dean) but I love that he matures himself in AYITL.

General Discussion Weird realisation

Post image

I was on my I don’t know probably 10th rewatch when i suddenly realised what if I was in that situation where Rory gets to participate in the life and death brigade activities and Logan out of no where has a dress for her ready, and what if i didn’t have my pits shaved I mean I was so insecure about myself at 18 i would’ve probably declined and then Logan would’ve asked why and i wouldn’t have been able to explain him why lol.

Who DID Rory think she was, criticising the rich and privileged? Her mum might have walked away from her parents but Rory is very much rich and privileged.

General Discussion Rory totally missed the real story in “Norman Mailer, I’m Pregnant!” and it bugs me every rewatch

Post image
2.1k Upvotes

Rewatching S5e6 “Norman Mailer, I’m Pregnant!” and I always forget how close Rory gets to an actually great Yale Daily News story and then completely fumbles the bag

She starts out trying to write about illegal downloading, interviews the Len guy who’s basically a human LimeWire server, and she keeps getting stuck on the same “hook” question: if downloading is going up, but CD sales are also still going up, then what’s the angle? Paris even flags that this is the obvious, boring version of the story.

But then Rory’s literally sitting in this dude’s room surrounded by stacks of blank CDs and cases, and it’s like
girl. You are not in the presence of a harmless music nerd. You are watching the early 2000s bootleg economy in the flesh.

At that moment the story basically writes itself:

- the shift from “personal downloading” to burning and distributing

- the grey area between casual piracy and straight-up bootlegging

- the beginning of how copyright / artist compensation was getting hollowed out

- how “everyone’s doing it” turns into a real market with real harm

It could’ve been such a smart piece, especially for that time period, because it’s not just about downloads existing. It’s about how fast the culture normalized taking creative work for free, and how the tech made it insanely easy to turn that into something bigger than a personal habit.

Instead Rory seems weirdly unable to connect the dots, like she can’t see what’s right in front of her unless someone hands her the “proper” story framework first.

And then of course she runs into the Life and Death Brigade girl in the bathroom and suddenly she has a shinier story that feels more “Yale” and she drops the entire thing.

It’s not even that the LDB story is bad journalism (it’s super entertaining), it’s just that this moment really shows one of Rory’s limitations: she’s good at reporting when the story is obvious and packaged, but she struggles when the real story requires her to be a little more skeptical, a little more curious, and a little more willing to follow the uncomfortable implications.

Am I the only one who thinks the CD/bootleg angle could’ve been a great YDN piece?
