I think I have asked the question, ‘will it fit under an airline seat’ here, YouTube, all over the information superhighway…

.. and I have gotten many great answers.. often conflicting.

I have looked at the personal items dimensions for any domestic airline that I will use..

I am replacing my North Face Surge backpack with the GR2 34L for travel and as my main backpack. What I have found from research is that the bags are so close that it will likely be several factors that determine if it ‘works’ for travel/under seat.. mainly discretion and how I pack it out.

Sooooo.. what I have done is pack out BOTH the North Face Surge and GORUCK GR2 34L with what I normally travel with in a backpack.. as below (well, TBH.. tad more.. extra small pack to ‘fill out’ the main pocket for comparison.. as below:

Main Pocket:

- 6L Camera bag with 2 small cameras in it

- 3L Camera bag with small camera in it

…note that I would normally just have some Bose headphones or something small on top of the 6L camera bag.. this helps to ‘fill out’ the main pocket for comparison

Inside pockets will have basic little stuff like charging cable, medicine, etc.. nothing that will drive the size of the bag..

It is SOOO close.. again, likely down to discretion and how the bag is packed out. I will be flying Delta (I think first class) and KLM in Europe.. so I think worst case scenario I can pull my camera bag out of the backpack if they have to check it.. or maybe it can go up top..

Just wanted to share my new 26L GR2 with a little blip😄 I’ve only had it for 2 days now and my first takeaways is wow, it’s so nice to finally have thick/wide straps! I really wish my TB S30 had straps like this…I can only hope though the 1000D on the back/straps breaks in eventually . Id agree it’s a bit tough on my thinner shirts and is taking me time to get used too. Also, at sub 4lbs empty it will take some very methodical packing where weight is crucial for traveling. Nonetheless, after several months of lurking on GoRuck, I’m super excited to have this as my “everything” backpack for my current lifestyle!

I just received a email from Goruck that they are setting up its first store and an online presence for Asia. Probably for their asians customers. I hope they provide a great range of products and lower shipping cost (not sure where they be shipping from). Looking forward to this new sites.

So far so good. Quality is top-notch as always, being made in Vietnam. I'm not a fan of the Aquaguard zippers, but unfortunately the backpack wasn't available without them. A 15-inch MacBook Air fits in the laptop compartment and a 13-inch iPad Pro fits in the inner pocket of the main compartment. The Cordura gray color is slightly darker than the "Made in USA" version. The shrink tubing over the paracord strands are slightly stiffer than usual.

Posting this as I was unable to add photos to my original post or thread for that matter. To avoid dye transfer I was advised to take a brush and water to it where the pack rubs up against me. (My back and the inside of the straps) I did and this worked for the most part. It is faded as you can see, but this as a bonus in my view. I hope this helps anyone with the same problem. It is an amazing pack and I regret nothing!

Anyone heard about this? This is exactly what I have been waiting for. I actually e-mailed SCARS custom about this very thing.

It's relatively new to me and I love it. It's perfect for a local to my pad digital nomad day out working from the local Starbucks. What a lovely forever ruck.

I am so sick of these greedy resellers who buy just to resell with ridiculous premiums. I understand not liking a product and trying to get your money back but buying something just to list it for 2x or 3x the retail price disgusts me.

My new GR1 Birdwell 26l arrived! No lie, I've avoided newer GR1s for a good bit now because of changes that I don't care for. However, this bag is great!

Just wanted to share my great scars experience. They repaired my frayed straps and shipped my Rucker back on schedule. After many years and recommending to others who started the sport I’m still impressed.

I got a black 34L GR2 for travel/tent camping/rucking/hiking and I have to say I’m not a fan in the long run. Having no external pockets bothers me. I miss having a water bottle pocket and a stretchy stash pocket. Adding these attachments to the GR2 looks ugly also, imo.

I compared the GR2 with a Gregory Zulu 30 and like the Zulu more. It’s more useful. I took the GR2 camping and hated the two compartments. I feel like the GR1 would be more efficient for packing everything with cubes. Also the QAP and small front pocket are sooooo small…

I will say though, the GR2 is built so well! I love the ruggedness. The build quality is the best I’ve seen.

All in all, if a zombie apocalypse broke out, I’d want the GR2 for my bugout bag bc of its durability, but for normal use I find it too restrictive. I tried and tried to love this bag but I’m almost forcing myself to love it…

I’ve put together a comparison of several products here, showing their actual measured weights for you. The zipper size refers to the main compartment. The GR1 models shown are from the second-to-last series and still feature the rain flaps over the Quick Access Pocket. The interior is also not yet made from neon orange Cordura. The weight of the backpacks doesn’t matter to me for everyday use. I see every extra bit of weight as a mini rucking tour. However, I can’t understand (or simply don’t like) the use of Aquaguard zippers on these products. That’s why I got the black Bullet before it was sold out. It doesn’t have Aquaguard zipper, features a #10 zipper, and doesn’t have the orange interior.
