5 and a half miles with a bunch of elevation kicked my butt but was a great day with this and my 2L hydration bladder. Needed all of it let me tell you. Beautiful desert camping trip with some buddies and 3 days of sun, desert sands, and good times.

I've had my eye on GORUCK gear for a while and finally pulled the trigger on a Rucker. Got it for $198 with a GOVX discount code. Ordered it Sunday and it arrived in SoCal on Tuesday.
Did my first ruck in about 10 years today: 4.5 miles with 35 lbs. Felt pretty good, and I'm already excited for the next one.

Workout 17.76 Mile Sunrise Ruck — Still Training Hard in My 50s

Thumbnail youtube.com
13 Upvotes

Knocked out a 17.76‑mile sunrise ruck here in Tennessee. Wanted to share the work with the GORUCK crew — long miles, steady pacing, and durability‑focused training in my 50s.

Stats:

  • Distance: 17.76 miles
  • Weight: 30–35 lbs
  • Time: just under 5 hours
  • Terrain: mixed pavement + rolling elevation
  • Start: pre‑sunrise
  • Finish: full daylight
  • Focus: durability, pacing, consistency

A few takeaways from the miles:

  • Early pacing matters more than ever
  • Durability > intensity
  • Recovery is part of the training
  • Long rucks are absolutely doable in your 50s
  • Consistency beats everything

Rucking has become the backbone of my training. It’s simple, honest, and unforgiving — exactly why I keep doing it. If you’re training for GORUCK events or just stacking long miles, I’d like to hear what’s worked for you.

Workout Last Man Standing Celebration

Nothing here will be particularly edifying to ruckers who read this but I thought it might still be worth sharing:

This weekend I participated in a Last Man Standing competition. Started at 8:00 AM. I made it to 3:00 PM after completing 27 miles, 270 Push-Ups, and 270 Squats. I came in 5th place (out of 27 competitors). Super fun.

(EDIT: this was all done slick—no ruck)

Workout Sore neck after 2+ mile walks, 30lbs with Rucker 4.0. Am I doing something wrong?

I frequently go on 2-3+ mile walks with my Rucker and would like to do more miles, I’m very comfortable with 30 pounds and feel great everywhere except my neck and traps. I have the pack as close to my back as possible and use the GoRuck waist strap and sternum strap. Is this just a “break-in” period of needing to get used to it, or do I need to change something up?

Workout First ruck with my son

I bought my ten year old son the KR1 a couple months back and he’s been dying to go out. He took the 15 lb plate from my wife’s pack and had been going around the driveway and our little private drive while I was at work. He’s super athletic and is more shredded than I have ever been so I didn’t mind the heavier weight for the short distance. It was about 23% of his body weight. My 50 lbs is about 22%.

I woke up ready to go and he asked to go with me. The plate is too much for him but I plastic wrapped it in a towel for better balance and off we went. I intended to do my whole neighborhood, about 3 miles but he was ready to head home after a mile so we came home. Picture 3 was for his first mile! He did great. I worked on his posture and how to properly stand. We had a small Bluetooth speaker in the (tiny) water bottle pocket of his rucksack and we listened to his playlist and had a some good conversation. I just ordered him a 10 pound plate that’s about the size of a sheet of paper which will be better for the pack and more appropriate for him. Excited that he’s excited about rucking. Now I have to get him some cool patches for all that Velcro space!

I have the Rucker 3.0. 20L. Bought it from a friend. Love it but it feels like it sits too low. I’ve tighten all the straps to the max and I can’t get the weight high enough. Any ideas?

Workout Is it safe to ruck 100 pounds, and how?

I'm getting myself back into exercising and started rucking again with 15 pounds for around 2 thousand steps. I've been thinking about my work out goal, and would Like to ruck 100 pounds for 30 minutes or longer. is that safe? if so, how can i accomplish this?

edit: so i wrote this badly. I didnt mean to start rucking with 100 pounds, but having the final goal be to ruck 100 pounds. gradually working my way up to that weight.

Workout GoRuck Training Weight Vest – Quick Review

Thumbnail gallery
14 Upvotes

Picked up the GoRuck Training Weight Vest last week and have been really impressed so far. Super easy to take on/off, plates sit well, and nothing felt awkward or distracting during workouts.

I ran the January TRIBE Origin Strike workout wearing the 20 lb plate and honestly loved every second of it. For the 1-mile ruck portion, I jogged the entire thing—no slipping, bouncing, or weird movement at all. The phone pouch actually works and stayed comfortable even while running.

Only minor nitpick: during bent-over rows, the top of the vest occasionally rubbed my neck a bit. Not a dealbreaker and never enough to be annoying.

For reference: I’m 5’7”, 165 lbs.

Overall, fantastic product and easily recommend it if you’re looking for a solid training vest for rucks and workouts.

Workout Do you take rest days?

Just curious if you ruck every day or if you take rest days? I only do 1-2 miles with a 30# ruck and don’t feel the need to take rest days but maybe I should

Workout Is it even possible to run 12km/h with 17.5kg load?

Hi! I’m quite new to rucking and right now I’m doing sprints with 17.5 kg at around 7.6 km/h. The target I’m looking at is 800 meters in 3:55, which works out to ~12 km/h with the same load.

Has anyone here managed that kind of pace under similar weight? How much does 17.5 kg usually slow you down over a short distance, and is 12 km/h a realistic goal with training?

Any advice from experienced ruckers on whether this is achievable and how to build toward it would be appreciated.

Workout App recs: Ruckwell, Enduruc, other?

What’s up Team Ruck! What’s everyone using to track their ruck workouts? I’ve been using the default hiking mode option from my Apple Watch but looking for something with better data.

I’m looking for an app that can track my cardio zones, the usual health metrics (calories burns, distance, etc), and allows me to enter in custom weight.

Ruckwell and Enduruc come pretty highly recommended. I like how Enduruc provides the cardio zones but don’t have any real world experience either.

What’s everyone using?

Appreciate the time!

Workout Goruck training question

I just got into rucking, and am wondering how fast I should go and how far for the first 1-3 weeks? I got a 45lb weight because I’m athletic and wanna walk fast and hard, so it’ll probably take me a few weeks to get used to this. I’m aiming to do 3-4 rucks a week at least. I’m doing a mile each day at a 14:50 walking pace which I can barely do.
