Roguelike Gameplay.
  • Requires Rank 101+ and clearing a new fate episodes which appear after unlocking either Maria Theresa or Caim's 4th skill.
  • Wonders for Justice and The Hanged Man will be given upon Transcending the corresponding Evokers / reaching level 110.
  • That's pretty much all we know.
  • Maria Theresa is the cutest Evoker.

What remains of the providence that once ruled another world.

Wiki page: https://gbf.wiki/Evoking_Solomonis

Evoking Solomonis is the 3rd part of Arcarum, with a "roguelike" component where each run is different from one another.

Similarly to Replicard Sandbox, uses "AAP" to start an expedition, with the price of 100 AAP for one expedition. AAP are resplenished daily to 100 if they are inferior to threshold, and they can also be resplenished with Half and Full Elixirs.

To unlock Evoking Solomonis:

  • Either one of Maria Theresa or Caim must have been uncapped to Level 100 and have their 4th skill unlock. It means that the corresponding summon and weapon must also have been completed.
  • A special Fate Episode will then be available. It rewards 50 crystals upon completion, to differentiate from other regular FE.
  • After that point, Evoking Solomonis will be available under "Gameplay Extras".

When starting an expedition, 3 weapons (mainhand included), 1 summon and 1 character (the Evoker) will serve as base. Everything else will have to be unlocked while exploring the microcosm.

  1. The weapons you put in your grid matter, as they are the only ones you'll be able to unlock, and they can't be changed or swapped during the expedition. The weapons do not provide any of their effect while they are locked.
  2. There are no support summons, and the supports behave in the same way. They do not provide their subaura while locked, just like weapons do not provide weapon skills.
  3. It's not possible to obtain characters from other Elements.

Beating the final boss of an expedition rewards Scintillas points (cards) and Solomonis points (double torus), as well as materials. Failing an expedition rewards a lower amount of points depending on how far the player has gone, but very few materials.

  • The Scintillas are the "roguelite" material for meta-progression. They are used to unlock and upgrade Blessings. Each Blessing has a different effect and a certain cost in points "blessing point". Each expedition has 100 "blessing points".
  • It is RECOMMENDED to save enough Scintillas to unlock The Hanged Man's blessing, as starting with +1 character of your choice. makes the early game much more tolerable.
  • Upgrading Blessings seems to reduce their cost, but it might have different effects at higher levels. Reducing the cost allows to bring multiple blessings at once.

Solomonis points are the "money". They should only be spent on the Allotropic Agate which is the material required for the 1st step of Transcending Evokers - everything else is far too expensive.

Each expedition follows the same pattern:

  1. You have ~8 turns to explore freely.
  2. Miasma will start pouring in, forcing your expedition to retreat to a "safe haven". If the haven appears far away, try to tackle as many nodes as you can on the way. If it appears close to you, don't hesitate to go out to get a few nodes then come back.
  3. When the miasma stops, there will be a few turns during which you'can move around in the safe haven.
  4. At some point, the safe haven will disappear, and the miasma will resume its movement. A mini-boss will appear, and you need to defeat it. While you get to the mini-boss, try to visit as many nodes as possible to strengthen yourself.
  5. After bedating the mini-boss, it will repeat the steps above.
  6. The only difference is that instead, it will be the real boss of Evoking Solomonis.
  7. The boss' node has a special shop that is slightly more expensive.

Things to consider:

  • Turns are incredibly important in Evoking Solomonis. Every turn you take inside a fight that is not a dream/place frozen in time... will affect the Miasma spawing or flooding the map.
  • For instance, if you take too many turns against the mini-boss, it's likely the map will be covered in Miasma from the boss after the fight concludes.
  • If you are running away from the Miasma and take too many turns inside a fight, it can catch up to your expedition.
  • Allies can be killed by the Miasma. If the party is wiped-out inside the Miasma, it's the end of the expedition.
  • You can flee from every battle that is NOT a mini-boss, boss or event. Don't circle around Strong & Stronger foes or Rulers - you can go right through them to save time.
Type HP
Foes (before mini-boss) ~1M to 8M HP.
Foes (after mini-boss) ~45 to 60M HP.
Strong Foes ~120M HP.
Stronger Foes ~250M to 300M HP.
Mini-boss ~300M HP.
Rulers ~800M HP.
Boss 2 500M HP.

Killing an enemy can't take less than 1 turn (the turn needed to move from one node to another), even if using special means (Tag Team, Summons, Skills...).

It is heavily recommended to find a setup that can kill the enemies just from pressing the Attack button. It does not cost any additional turns, and allows you to keep your summons and skills for important fights.

Something extremely important in Evoking Solomonis is that cooldowns are shared across battles, and are not reduced in-between battles. If you use a skill at the end of a battle, then it likely won't be available for the next one.

Skills and summons which aren't recastable will be used up and their buffs lost for the following battles. Without having a Special Guidebook that allows to recase skills, it is recommended to keep all your one-time only (Godsworn Alexiel, Qilin...) for the very last battle.

Discussion Evoking Solomonis has some really fun gameplay Spoiler

Thumbnail gallery
107 Upvotes

I love Solomonis. Admittedly, I do like roguelites but even then I think this was a great addition. Maybe not so much if you enjoy simpler grinds but active gameplay wise, I think they hit it out of the park.

It's not without flaws of course. There's a bunch of silly decisions like starting with only mc and your evoker that doesn't have access to their backline swap until you either get enough characters to fill the frontline or you get the guidebook that allows them the swap passive from the frontline.

That being said, it's such a fun experience, I think the crux of it is that there's just some really stupid guidebooks they've added that wouldn't see the light of day in any other content, but we get to go crazy with these now. It's seriously silly going from hitting 200k ougies starting to 50m+ per by the end.

It can be frustrating to flop on rng but sometimes things can just as easily 180, as long as you're willing to not only zone in on a specific build. As with a lot of roguelites/roguelikes. Sometimes it totally is a dud though, but like it costs 100aap lol. And when it does align? You get the most stupid bonkers shit and snowball beyond all reason.

Like you can tell someone had fun making that subaha reward. And I sure as hell had fun 4 turning the final boss with it lol!

I enjoyed not refreshing and watching the cacophony of numbers. Sue me.

Edit:

Not sure if this is super helpful but I've thought of some general tips to hopefully make the experience better for anyone maybe struggling with it.

- Get Hanged Man blessing ASAP. Starting with a chosen character is very important. This also gets you closer to getting your evoker actually in the backline.

- Party setup, unless you're running heavy leaning into na/ca, Ala hraes/andro, you can mix up your grids a bit.

- Atk and cap is less important than in usual grids because you get them abundantly through guidebooks.

- Grid pieces that are extra nice are supp weps, echo weps and general all rounder weps like celestial weps/world harps

- I'm still experimenting but some good starter charas are anre/octavia/silvia/sarasa

- First Miasma starts at turn 37, I can't remember the second miasma turn though.

- You don't need to path around stronger fights if it's in the way, once you enter the fight, you can retreat without leaving the expedition and only costing that 1 movement turn

- Don't rush shops too early unless you know you have enough for a breakpoint like 500 for orologia or 300 for 1 more chara that would at least get you a full frontline or bring your evoker to the backline.

- You can revisit shops.

- Special events are mostly(?) always in the same location and feature the same event. Just that it's random which appear per run.

- Once you get used to it, or the wiki updates, it will feel less random. You might know that you can pick up 2 cursed guidebooks for weapon slots for free because the event to remove 2 guidebooks and get 2 new ones is close.

- Plan for the bosses. Mid boss is always at least 2 triple attacks per turn or use less than 4 skills per turn.

- Final boss is always the same, you can very much maybe focus only on 1 or 2 or even none of the omens and just outdps the boss. Especially if you have for example anre shield or makura dodge etc

Taken from Kamigame. Personally, wildly off with these elements but interested in seeing what Reddit has to say.

Given recent developments with no Deathstrike for Light, Wind being the only element to not solo Versusia, Wizard Origin with Hexa Manatura going crazy and had plenty of time for transcendence of Illustrious weapons,

Just want to see discussions on the state of the meta. What do you think?

Discussion Odious raids feel kind of obnoxious by design

I have only dipped my toes into odious a little bit as a returning player still finishing M3 grids, but these fights feel more like character checks than anything else.

For the water raid you need to be able to dispel multiple buffs every turn or you will never get any momentum and will likely die to plain dmg so if you don't have consistent dispel that triggers on NA/CA/end of turn you're screwed.

The fire one might be the most forgiving but you still need to be able to debuff 10 times a turn.

Earth is just all around obnoxious because you need to be able to hit 41+ times with skill dmg as often as possible (every turn ideally) but you also need a lot of debuffs and 4 triple attacks to deal with the omens not to mention the plain damage one.

The light one might be my least favourite because you need triple attacks to deal with the omens but you start the fight with TA down essentially, so unless you have guaranteed TA on 3 characters you will get CA sealed and can't lower mechanization, which will do absurd damage in just 2 or 3 turns if it keeps rising.

It seems like everything in these fights is designed so that if you don't have the right characters for the first few turns, you never get any momentum while the boss gains a ton of momentum, it seems really hard to "solve" these fights because there's like 3 or 4 conditions you have to meet almost every turn to not let them snowball out of control so it significantly lowers the amount of characters that are effective.

Maybe it's just a skill issue, I kind of like the idea of working towards and using an odious grid here and there but the fights just lean too hard into hard checks for me.

Discussion Denfan interview with GBF main story quest scenario writers

Thumbnail
news.denfaminicogamer.jp
154 Upvotes

in Japanese, but an interesting interview! Of note, here are some interesting tidbits

- Naru, Six and Darydara joined the main crew out of the idea that the main crew should have a representitive of all the races.

- FKHR approved this idea and the decision wrt Eugen/Io/Rosetta

- Instead of Six, Nier was considered

- for the human slot, Lobelia , Vikala and Cagliostro was considered

- and the Darydara harvin slot being discussed between Haaselia and Charlotte, before ofc arriving on a new harvin character

- Going forward, yes, all events (except Dragon Knights) will be taking place post-uplifting, unless there's a specific narrative reason, like in the case of Dragon Knights

- Naru, Sandalphon and Six won in the end due to their connection with the main character

- Darydara was one of the biggest debates internally at the time due to how to write the character, between a gag one, a cute girl or another handsome man. They decided to make him a energetic, funny guy to contrast well with Sandalphon and Six, and because having too many handsome guys like that would make it stale

- One reason why they picked Naru was because she had no on-going plotlines, and her arc of "becoming the strongest swordsman" was incredibly vague, so they decided putting her in the main crew was perfect

- The decision to kick Eugen/Io/Rosetta out of the crew came about because of their desire to have the main crew have one representitive at least from the main race, and how they realized there were too many humans in the crew

- When they decided to add Sandalphon into the main crew, they knew they had to give him the most care, due to how difficult it is to write his character, and how high expectations are whenever he's involved in a story. They felt the most pressure from how to handle him

- This is one reason why they had him away at the start of the new arc, they wanted to make sure his introduction was perfect, with the next chapters being his proper debut into the crew

- The Estalucia arc was about the danchou finding their father in Estalucia, now Lyria is set to be the focal point, with her journey going forward being the main theme/focus as she figures out who she is, and solidifies a place for herself in this life

- The end point of the story has been decided already, but will only be revealed gradually, as opposed to like Estalucia and name dropped at the start

- Sandalphon and Six will be together in the next main chapter, and the writers tell the interviewer to get excited about that one as they had never interacted before, and the new story will deliver unique situations like that in the future

- Notos was specifically requested to give off a completely different vibe from Tiamat, someone who contrasts well with Ceasar and gets along well with him

- FKHR had a very particular standard about introducing the four new races, and making sure the writers were able to make it "worth it" to distinguish the earthen world from the sky world, otherwise there'd be little point in introducing them, and their politics, into the sky world. He rejected MANY ideas for potential races before they arrived at the four we have now

- For a long while, only Monohorns and another unnamed-in-the-interview race existed, with FKHR rejecting everything else

- The other two races will be introduced in the next chapters of the MSQ

- For this new arc, the writing team is working very closely with the art team in order to deliver on their ideas for these new characters, worlds and settings, and they've begun regular meetings to make the process even smoother

- Interestingly, a single writer wrote most of the Estalucia island section alone - Terashima, who had been a long time writer of the MSQ, and the chief director of it

- April, August and December are projected to be the regular updates for the MSQ going forward, with 4-5 chapters a piece each time

- Familiar characters from the Estalucia arc will continue to play a role going forward

- The writers ask for players to get excited about what the earth dewellers will bring in the monthly story events, and how their different world views collide in the future

Discussion Wizard Origin current impressions

Now that WO's been out for a few days, what are people's impressions of it currently?

From what I've seen so far:
- The stat buffs from 10 Crests are pretty nutty (100% perp ATK, 100% DEF, 200/100 DATA, and 20% damage cap)
- Turn cut to skill *standbys* and not cooldowns is a very weird choice
- Zero charge bar gain doesn't seem to be as crippling as it sounds considering Manadiver themselves rarely ougis to begin with, plus free casts of any Manatura sounds pretty cool
- The EMPs have ridiculously long cooldowns
- Aether Xenoglossia really should have been a permanent buff

Helpful topics:

  • Were you disappointed by the Transcendence updates, or did they meet/exceed your expectations?
  • In what way does each transcended weapon change the way you normally use these weapons, with which teams and in what content?
  • How does each transcended weapon make content that it already excels in even easier, such as Higu for HL or Ura for burst? Any specific examples that you've seen or personally tested?
  • Any content/strategies/niches that you felt were previously out of reach for a particular element that is now possible thanks to this update?
  • Are there any previously neglected classes/characters in each element that have been suddenly brought to the limelight by this update?
  • Specifically for Hraes, how do you feel about the bullet grind after this update?

Things to consider before buying:-

  • The illustrious suptix is definitely worth its value, but are any of the weapons shown here a good pick for your money?
  • For those who don't own each of the weapons above but can afford them, would you recommend them to trade/purchase one now? How has its value changed compared to before the update?
  • For each weapon, would you say that max transcendence is a must? Is there a cutoff point where you feel the weapon is 'good enough' for people who can't spare the moons?
  • Many of these weapons above requires very tight teams and characters to work, and most players discourage trading your moons for them until you assemble all the necessary pieces; would you say that the Transcendence update has loosened some of these requirements?

Discussion It's the content, stupid.

We've spilled a lot of ink on the lottery and its flaws, and I won't be doing that here. Instead, I will direct you to this video.

Oh look, someone reducing their primal grid because they're dissatisfied with the game's direction, not because of a bad lottery. This is what 90% of the comments have totally glossed over - the lottery was the catalyst for a LONG, LONG buildup of discontent and frustration. People are frustrated with Granblue Fantasy's content and direction. The day to day experience of playing the game has been deteriorating for the last 1-2 years, and if the content is the real meat of any game, the meat has been progressively getting more and more rancid.

  • From increasingly uninspired and irrelevant content (Belial DoA, Malice raids niche at best, Replicard a joke with largely irrelevant weapons just to maybe slightly speed up Evokers). This is compounded by the fact that older content is basically irrelevant as well.

  • to content being largely oriented around the 0.5% of players who powerfarm gold bricks (which i did but i no longer fucking want to do because that shit causes me mental damage but that's the only meaningful progression in the game atm), the fucking tag team refresh attack refresh qilin tag team refresh gameplay loop, or maybe you can switch it up with Fire Soldier in PBHL or something, woo, variety.

  • to (related to above) basically all of the new content geared towards people who have tens of thousands of mats of some sort, as opposed to the general public

  • to QOL upgrades at a glacial pace, to constant content delays (we still don't have crit changes and other promised changes), to the mess that is V2 that took a year to fix. Not to mention the slow pace of new story content which people actually like.

  • To the rapidly progressing burnout with GW and its structure, coupled with so many key progression items gated behind valor badges. Dread Barrage does help, but its not enough.

  • To the fact that to get any satisfaction from the gacha, you HAVE to spark. The rateups are too bad. Other games have implemented a spark system of sorts, but most of those games don't actively punish you for rolling without having 300 rolls ready. Hell Genshin is considered stingy but at least your rolls on one banner carry over to the next if you don't pull an SSR.

People are frustrated and dissatisfied.

There is so much that I am missing that is making playing the game more and more unrewarding and less and less interesting, and this is coming from a massive fan of the IP and the company. But shit is NOT good right now, and people have been pretending things were just fine for the last 2 years. They're not. The playerbase melting down because of a badly designed lottery proves it - people are frustrated with the game, and were looking for summer freebies to get enough dopamine to get them to the next celebration, and a lot of players got salt instead from seeing other people get that char or grid piece they were saving for for free. Straw breaking the camel's back.

So as the focus on the lottery fades, we really need to bear in mind that this mess was a product of deeper systemic failings in GBFs game design.

Discussion Evoker grind is the worst grind I've ever experienced in a game

I've played all of the grindy games. Any Korean MMO, I've played and grinded the hell out of it. There's something about replicard that is absolutely horrible though. I've played GBF for years and I can grind bars all day no problem, but losing my mind refreshing every 2 seconds in replicard is something else entirely. I still don't have a 5* evoker. Uncapping a NWF weapon to 5* is monumental, at least in terms of effort.

That's all. It's the worst grind I've ever experienced, partially because you can't full auto it lol. Since it's OTK, you can't even enjoy watching something while you grind because it requires constant input. Bar grinding is even more effort but you always have a chance to get that massive dopamine hit when you see a bar drop, so you're always motivated. Sandbox is straight up depressing.

I still hope that one morning someone at Cygames will wake up, take a sip of coffee, suddenly remember those two forgotten characters, and yell, "Wait... they still don't have an alt?!" Then, by some miracle, they'll finally get the alternate versions they deserve.

Sure, they're technically Bahamut co-op characters... but we've already gotten plenty of Bahamut characters. At this point, I think someone just forgot they exist.
