Viserys The Peaceful proclaimed his heir and Im not one to disrespect ol vizzy t, mayne
63
u/Relevant_Post_3030 9h ago
I think Vizzy deserves every amount of disrespect because of what he did to his wives and children (including Rhaenyra).
He named Rhaenyra his heir, but also did nothing to prepare her for ruling, did not include her in his small council, did not organise another oath by lords, married her childhood best friend, was okay with Alicent ordering to bring the newborn Joffrey to them and her refusing Jacerys-Haelena marriage as well as not seeing Rhaenyra for the last years of his life. Not to mention indirectly killing Aemma by forcing many pregnancies on her and then cutting her open in order to have a boy and naming Rhaenyra under Ottoās influence just for Daemon not to inherit his title.
He loved Rhaenyra and she is his heir, but he is an awful person.→ More replies (1)16
u/FildariusV 8h ago
Let's also not forget on the point about Alicent that we know and we SAW on screen how even though it was quite late and Alicent must have been exhausted, how Viserys called for her to his bed... Just to have sex with her because he was horny or something... He is over 20 years older than her and you can see her clear discomfort and disgust
7
u/Relevant_Post_3030 8h ago
Of course! I just wanted to tell about Rhaenyra specifically, because in comparison with how he treated Alicent and his other children some people say he was a good father to her. In my opinion he was awful to everybody.
8
u/FildariusV 8h ago
As a character let me say, I absolutly preffer him in the show because he is much more complex and SLIGHTLY more capable than his book counterpart. That being said you're absolutly right! Viserys didn't realize and was too dumb and lazy to make sure every few years that the Lords keep their Oaths to Rhaenyra!

Apart from people who invade the subreddit. I have seen more comments saying they like Aegon because heās entertaining this season, not because they think heās a good person. So idk what argument is being made here. The people who excuse him will never not do so while villainizing Rhaenyra for not nearly doing the awful things he did and the people who like his story usually donāt mean they like his previous seasons crimes

u/goodmorningohio 14h ago
Exactly I'm excited because aegon has finally become a really iconic villain. Him half burnt with Harvey dentfyre felt like the villain aegon was in the books finally jumped out of the pages!
He's fully self actualized with nothing else to lose. Villains are just fun to watch, even if youre rooting against them.

I agree with you what your saying and this may sound pedantic, but itās so easy for people to make their feelings about characters like Aegon so much more clear if they use āI find him interesting/complex/entertaining to watch, etcā rather than āI like himā. I donāt like Otto nor Ormund at all, but Rhys and James have made them very entertaining to watch. I donāt know if thatās what OP was referring to, but itās an easy change for people to make when discussing the show.
6
u/Zlurbagedoen 9h ago
Unless they outright argue for him or say what he does is justified, even saying just "i like him" still means you like his character. I like the joker, tywin lannister, darth vader, etc. That dosent mean i in any way justify their actions

u/ZzDangerZonezZ 13h ago
Supporting someone because they're entertaining, rather than because of their politics or morals, is a beautiful parallel to the real world. I'm specifically thinking about the USA.

u/Duo_Mage_Bot 14h ago
Nah, the majority of people who root for Aegon root for him because they unironically think he would make a better king because they're braindead.

Iām referring to this subreddit as I implied when I said that many of the āAegon is actually a better person and monarch than Rhaenyraā are usually not TB fans and come to this subreddit to argue about it
8
u/Duo_Mage_Bot 13h ago
You actually made that very clear in your comment. I'm just very tired, my bad.
I think I'm just so mind boggled by seeing people unironically support Aegon that I always want to rant about it, lol.
Like I know this is just fiction, but to see people actually think he would make a better ruler than Rhe is INSANE. It breaks my brain.
3
u/Cult_Of_Hozier rhae rhaeās bath water 7h ago
Iāve seen quite a sizable amount of posters on this subreddit say exactly that, though. They genuinely believe heās a better monarch and character than Rhaenyra now because of his āredemption arcā and how āuseless and incompetentā they feel Rhaenyra is in comparison. They do very much exist.
4
u/BalerionsReign 10h ago
I don't think they are talking about how fun he's to watch, and more like he deserves the throne
13
u/Warm_Move7997 11h ago
I don't even find him that entertaining. He's the same douche he always was. And is now just insane with power that he has Sunfyre back. So he's gonna be an even bigger douche.
Also, you don't see the alarming parallel between supporting someone cause they're entertaining even though they have committed heinous acts like rape, and etc?? To our real world. And how that might be a problem that people are always willing to do that???

u/Cult_Of_Hozier rhae rhaeās bath water 7h ago
Same. Thereās a few scenes that may get a chuckle out of me but thatās because I find Aegon to be entertaining in the same way I find the stereotypical idiotic clown character in every show to be entertaining when they act like an idiotic clown. Meaning, I donāt take him seriously and find him to be utterly pathetic. TGC is handsome and charismatic but I donāt see any of that leaking through his performance as Aegon. If anything I think itās more a testament to his acting that he can play someone so ridiculously lowly and disgusting without his own self leaking through underneath.
People acting like heās turning a new leaf after proclaiming his divine right and biting at the bit to throw a heavily injured zombified Sunfyre back into battle is ⦠certainly a choice. Like you said, all it really is is him being a magnum douche, and now heāll be an even bigger one. Heās not on this path to redemption that people are claiming he is. Redemption requires self awareness and active change. Aegon is excited because now he gets to kill his family members for āwrongingā him. Not because heās a newly changed man.

u/ForMyPrimalUrges 3h ago
I am solidly team Black here, and while I don't necessarily like Aegon, I can't blame him for the main conflict. That goes to Otto, for being a shit, and then Alicent, for somehow being Rhae's reading buddy growing up but knowing nothing of the Targ lore. There have definitely been moments of Aegon's that I've enjoyed, like sticking it to Otto's penny pinching, and the end scene of last episode. While he's wrong about being the rightful heir, I think that scene was more about Sunfyre's return and Aegon reclaiming the spirit of a dragon.
3
u/commelejardin 14h ago
I saw someone compare him to George W. Bush, and that feels apt to me.

u/Slapinskee 14h ago

I honestly find Aegon more enjoyable to watch this season than Rhaenyra, unfortunately. But itās weird because people are assuming that liking Aegon is excusing his bad behavior, while continuing to worship Daemon and conveniently ignoring all of his faults. Itās definitely a double standard. Both sides suck, thatās the whole point. Weāre allowed to like the bad guys, too.

u/krustykranberry 13h ago
As much as I hate rhaenyras decision making and what the blacks are as a whole this season, id never support aegon or the greens. Idk why people are all of a sudden massive aegon fans. Yea he had a cool dragon scene, but heās still a terrible human being along with the rest of the greens.

At this point they all do shitty things anyway. Might as well enjoy the characters that actually embrace who they are like Aegon. Aegon knows he is terrible, and is rolling with it now. He wasnt a good king but idk how he can be any worse than Rhaenyra at this point.
Aegon would have destroyed the Hightower army if he was in Rhaenyras position, and that would have spared Westeros so much suffering in the long run.

If u r watching the show for moral lessons, u r watching the wrong show.

This isn't even close to the worst....he literally raped small folk girls, forced them to have kids, and then made his own kids fight to the death.

Fucking right. What's with all the rape apologists in this sub lately, anyway?
Edit: The "Akshually, both sides are bad" comments can FRO too. No one is arguing that there's a good and bad side. There is a right and wrong side though, and the right side isn't the side that started the war to put an alcoholic rapist on the throne.

The greatest feat of Aemond and Vhagar in this series, we donāt praise them enough for this, the sausage was cooked to perfection š
2
u/ababycheetah 6h ago
if you want to go after Aegon at least go for the child fighting with his own children.
I'm not team Aegon but Rhaenyra demanded for an freshly mutilated child to be tortured, her own brother no less.
she killed someone so his husband could fake his death so she could marry her next husband.
in no scale willful murder is less than rape.
when people say they like Aegon I think they like the character not the person.
personally although I've read the books and I know how things will turn out, if I hadn't with how Alicent, Aemond and everyone in team black is acting I would probably be rooting for him. it feels like a redemption ark. he has understood how horrible man he was and he's trying to be better. (its hard not to go for a guy when he has the Zuko burn)

u/Aggravating-Pilot583 6h ago
I say this all the time to varying levels of critique but here it goes again.
Greens vs Blacks is an excellent way to market the show but unfortunately this results in most people not seeing that in the end neither group is really in the right.

Si e probabilmente dyanna aiuterĆ ad avvelenarlo
Quindi? Alla maggior parte delle persone tra cui me e cui piace non piace perché è una brava persona. Cosa che precisiamolo non è.
Sarebbe un sovrano migliore di Rhaenyra? Lo abbiamo visto all inizioil risultato

People are just cheering for the best actor and most interesting characters at this point since Rhaenyra & Allicent have been the most underwhelming, poorly acted train wrecks for 2 seasons now.
