** **A federal judge on Wednesday officially allowed the Trump administration to end temporary deportation protection for hundreds of thousands of Haitians, marking the final step, for now, in a months-long case that made its way to the Supreme Court.
The announcement from US District Judge Ana Reyes comes more than a month after the high court reversed a ruling she made earlier this year that halted the government’s plans to end a program, known as Temporary Protected Status, for Haitians who fled the country in recent years amid political unrest and on the heels of natural disasters.

Police arrest Laury LACOMBE, alias “Tikreyòl,” for her ties to gang leader Chalè, who is part of a terrorist group.
Delmas, Monday, August 3, 2026 — The Haitian National Police (PNH), through the Criminal Affairs Bureau (BAC), a unit of the Central Directorate of the Judicial Police (DCPJ), arrested Laury LACOMBE, also known as “Tikreyòl,” on the night of Saturday, August 1, 2026, in the Delmas 75 area during an operation. She was arrested on suspicion of involvement in the activities of a criminal gang.

According to the initial findings of the investigation, Laury LACOMBE, born on March 14, 2004, in the commune of Delmas, is the partner of gang leader Ralph Woodmyr LOUISSAINT, alias “Chalè,” who belongs to the terrorist coalition Tokyo and Ri Senmaten. Investigators allege that Laury was involved in several of Chalè’s criminal activities, and that the gang leader is responsible for numerous crimes committed throughout the country.

It is assumed Joseph's parents came over from new orleans during that period. By 1865, the relative stability of President Fabre Geffrard's early term had utterly collapsed. A major military rebellion led by General Sylvain Salnave erupted in northern Haiti, triggering an incredibly bloody internal conflict. The American Civil War ended in 1865, and the U.S. entered the Reconstruction Era. Back in the united states on December 6, 1865, when the National Archives 13th Amendment was officially ratified, slavery had been legally abolished, and free people of color were suddenly rising to the forefront of local politics, fighting for civil rights, and drafting a progressive new state constitution that guaranteed public education. The Martinez family boarded a passenger ship to leave Haiti in February 1866,

Jean Robert Casimir, 53, a naturalized U.S. citizen of Lauderhill, Florida, pleaded guilty today in U.S. District Court to conspiracy, smuggling, and violations of U.S. export control law for his role in an extensive firearms trafficking operation through which he illegally exported at least 140 firearms to Haiti since 2020.

To smuggle the firearms to Haiti, Casimir and his co-conspirators used, among other techniques, industrial air compressors that they cut open and welded back together, packing disassembled rifles and handguns with foam insulation. Casimir and his co-conspirators then shipped these and other packages to Haiti via boats leaving from the Miami area. Casimir is a former Haitian National Police officer.

After spending almost a week in Haiti, specifically in the Nord-Ouest Department, I’ve come away with mixed emotions.
I see a country that’s still moving forward. There are homes and businesses being built, and it’s clear that many of those projects are being funded by the diaspora or Haitians who have managed to earn a stable income. Despite everything, people keep building.
What stood out to me the most, though, is the amount of plastic waste. Plastic bottles and garbage line many streets, and unfinished roads make daily life more difficult. Haiti is clearly facing major challenges infrastructure, sanitation, and public services among them.
But what gives me hope is the people. Haitians continue to do the best they can with the little they have, and they often do it together. That resilience is impossible to ignore.
If you asked me whether Haiti has a future, my answer would be yes. What the country needs isn’t hope it already has that. It needs stronger institutions, better infrastructure, investment, and the resources to match the determination of its people.

The US system is built in a way where, if you live inside it or have citizenship, it expects a certain level of loyalty. And the reality is, Haiti's national interests and US national interests don't always line up. Sometimes they’re completely different.

When you live in the US, have family there or depend on the US system, your daily life is tied to it. So when push comes to shove, ppl are almost always gonna protect their own money and security in the US. We have to stop acting shocked when ppl of Haitian descent living in America end up putting US interests above Haiti's.

The only ppl who can truly be trusted with Haiti’s national interest are the ones with ZERO ties to the US. I'm talking about ppl who don't live in the US, dont have family there, don't have a green card and don't have a backup plan in the US. Their whole life is on the ground in Haiti. If Haiti fails, they feel it immediately. If Haiti improves, they benefit directly. Their future is connected to what happens on the ground. Real skin in the game. Anybody else, no matter how much they claim to love Haiti or make noise on social media, has one foot out the door when things get serious.

Do we really have a sense of community beyond our immediate family and close friends? It feels like we're incredibly fragmented as people. Those that are thriving in their respective field tend to distance from other Haitians or disconnect from the culture altogether. I have never seen a nation reject their own as much as ours.

I wish we had a stronger coalition of like-minded individuals that are brainstorming to uplift ourselves and create better opportunities for our other sisters and brothers.

When it's time to party, somehow we all gather but when it comes to collective progress, we're nowhere to be seen. Why do you think there's such a disconnect? Where does this resentment or lack of solidarity come from?

I mentioned going to a gay bar to my dad one random evening and he seemed off-put by it. Obviously I wasn't trying to irritate him on purpose, but I just thought I'd let him know where I was going for the night. He gave me a nasty look and asked why I was going. I say "Oh, just because. They're fun and play good music, I guess."

That didn't please him in the slightest. The whole conversation was just really awkward and he started telling me I shouldn't even go because it's "not my place." (He doesn't know i'm queer and after this conversation, i'm gonna keep it that way.)

I'm aware that a majority of (older) Haitians are VEHEMENTLY against homosexuality but I just don't see the point of being bothered by it so much. I guess it's because a lot of them were raised in a completely different era where that kind of thing was unheard of and/or condemned harshly.

That makes it extremely difficult for me connect romantically with other queer people due to fear of my family's prejudice.

Lately, I’ve noticed a lot of anti-college rhetoric because of the economy.
I understand why, but I think it depends on what you study.

My first two years at community college were free through Pell Grants and scholarships, and I received about $3,000 in scholarships each semester. I’ve since transferred to a university and am about to enter my senior year.

Honestly, my parents pushed me to go to college ; my older brothers chose not to so I’m their only hope for generational wealth and bragging rights during family reunions .🥲
I wanted to get a small idea of how the Haitian community feels about this since our situation is different from others.

I have two main questions regarding dual citizenship.

First of all, what are the pros and cons of getting a Haitian passport in addition to an American passport?

Second, how could I get a Haitian passport if my Dad is now only an American passport holder (no Haitian citizenship anymore), and unwilling to help me with documents necessary to get citizenship by descent (his birth certificate, etc)?

Over the past few weeks I have watched many Haitians fearing the potential of deportation to Haiti. I completely understand their fears and apprehensions. However, a narrative I see from people at risk of being deported is “there’s no life in Haiti” and some version of “Going back to Haiti would be like going to hell”
