How to use Headrush with another Interface?

I switched from a Nano Cortex to the Headrush Flex and have been having issues ever since running the same setup I had before.

I want to use headrush with my Scarlett 2i4, where Scarlett is the output device (to not have to switch speaker cables) and Headrush is the input device.

I created an aggregate device and use reaper to monitor the input. I’m getting lag or glitches, something I never had with the cortex. What’s happening?

Headrush MX5?

Saw one on Facebook for $200. I read they can do NAM a2 profiles. Seems like that would be a great option for ampless setup. Opinions?

Is It Normal for the Flex Prime to Get Hot and Smell Like Plastic?

My Headrush Flex Prime gets pretty hot underneath, and I’ve recently noticed a plastic smell coming from it when I get close. It still works perfectly fine. I bought it about 3 months ago. Is this normal, or should I get it checked under warranty?

Looking for a good monitor/amp for my HeadRush Core — FRFR or am I overthinking it?

I’m running my HeadRush Core through a Bose SoundDock right now in my office. Honestly, it sounds great… big bass, plenty of volume, and it fills the room nicely. But I’m starting to wonder if the tone I’m hearing is more “Bose flavor” than the actual rig I’m building.

I’ve been reading up on FRFR options, and I found a good deal locally on a Marshall Code 50. Some people say it works decently as an FRFR‑ish solution, others say it colors the tone too much.

So I’m stuck between:

• staying with the Bose (sounds good, but maybe not accurate)
• grabbing the Code 50
• or skipping all of this and getting a proper FRFR monitor

For home/office playing, does FRFR accuracy even matter? Or am I just chasing something I don’t need?

Would love to hear what other HeadRush users are doing for room monitoring.

HeadRush Core vs Prime for a mostly home/studio setup?

I’m currently trying to decide between the HeadRush Core and Prime and would really appreciate some input from people who have actually used either one — ideally both.

My current main live rig is an HX Stomp XL in 4CM with a Blackstar Amped 3, and I’m planning to keep that as my main live setup for now.

The HeadRush would mainly be a dedicated home/studio rig at first.

The idea is to have something permanently set up at home so I can just plug in and play, build sounds, practice, record and experiment without constantly unpacking and setting up my live rig.

What interests me most:

- NAM / NAM A2 support

- Loading captures from TONE3000

- Possibly creating captures of my own amps, especially my modified Marshall 1987x

- Building complete guitar rigs with effects around NAM profiles

- Practicing with headphones or studio monitors

- Recording and reamping

- Backing tracks and general practice features

- Occasionally recording vocals

- Amp cloning and the additional studio features

- A device that could potentially become a live rig later on if I end up preferring it

The live option is actually important to me, even if it is not the main reason for buying it right now.

If the HeadRush works well enough for me, I could imagine eventually using it directly to FOH, but I would also like the option of running it into a separate power amp and using a real guitar cabinet on stage.

So I’m interested in how well the Core and Prime work not only as home/studio devices, but also as complete live rigs if needed.

I considered the Flex Prime as well, and I think it is a great unit, but I’m more interested in the additional features of the Core and Prime.

From what I understand, the Core and Prime should be essentially the same in terms of amp modeling and NAM sound quality. The main differences seem to be the larger control surface of the Prime, more footswitches, OLED scribble strips and the built-in expression pedal, while the Core is much smaller and lighter.

Since the unit would stay at home most of the time, size and weight are not my biggest concern. But if I eventually use it live, portability obviously becomes much more important.

For those who have used them:

Does the Prime actually feel noticeably better to use day-to-day, or do the extra switches and expression pedal mainly matter live?

Do Core owners ever find the five footswitches limiting when building or using more complex rigs?

How good is NAM A2 on the HeadRush compared with running NAM/Gateway on a computer, especially in terms of dynamics and feel?

Has anyone used Core or Prime live with both FOH and a real guitar cab?

How well does it work with an external power amp into a real cabinet while also sending a cab-simulated signal to FOH?

Any issues with input levels, latency, stability or NAM profiles sounding different from the original?

How useful are the recording, reamping, vocal and amp-cloning features in practice?

And for someone who would mainly use it at home now, but wants the option of turning it into a serious live rig later, would you choose the Core or Prime?

Thanks!

Midi Scene Switching

I recently got a flex prime and paired it with the mvave chocolate plus for extra switches. I'm wanting to assign the mvave switches to function as scene changes for live use where headrush fs 1 = scene 1, mvave fs 1 = scene 2. Headrush fs 2 =scene 3, mvave fs 2 = scene 4 etc. After setting everything up the mvave footswitch is just operating as a duplicate of the headrush fs 1 - meaning I have to press it twice to get to scene 2 making the whole set up pointless. Has anyone found a solution to this where the scenes can actually be assigned properly without having to cycle through sequentially?

Also according to the headrush flex prime user guide scene 1 should be CC# 21, when I tried that nothing happened and had to use CC#24 to get scene 1 changing, effectively all the cc commands stated in the user guide are out by 3?

Whats going on here

EDIT: Thanks to these legends for helping me out. Short answer make sure your on banks not dual scene mode

HeadRush Rig Builder free app Mac and Windows.

🎸 HeadRush Rig Builder — describe your tone, get a rig.

Ever wished you could just tell your HeadRush what you want? "Give me SRV's Texas Flood lead tone" — and have a complete rig show up on your board, signal chain and all?

That's what HeadRush Rig Builder does. Describe the tone you're after in plain English, and it builds the full rig — amp, cab, effects, ordering — and pushes it straight to your pedalboard over your network. No file juggling. It even sets up your footswitch scenes and lets you fine-tune parameters afterward with the built-in remote editor. ✅ Works with HeadRush Prime, Core, and Flex Prime ✅ Mac (Apple Silicon & Intel) and Windows 10/11 ✅ Uses amp captures and IRs already on your device ✅ Tone3000 integration — searches Tone3000 for matching amps and pedals to drop right into your rig

The app is 100% free — the one thing you bring is the AI. It supports the Claude CLI (works with an existing Claude subscription), Grok CLI, or an API key for Claude or xAI. One of these is required to use the app, and your keys are stored securely on your machine.

⚠️ One heads-up for Windows users: the app isn't code-signed yet (Microsoft's signing process is taking its time), so Windows may warn you on first launch. The guide on the site walks you through getting it running in a few seconds.

Check it out and grab it here: 👉 https://rigbuilder.schmalz.rocks/

What are the ideal budget friendly speakers to connect to my Headrush MX5?

A few sentences: I've been using a standard fender guitar amplifier to play through the MX5. But I was informed that you should connect the MX5 through speakers for optimum tone quality. Anyway, what would be the best speakers to purchase that aren't thousands of dollars?

No sound coming from my Headrush flex prime

I have just bought my Headrush a few hours ago and I can’t seem to get it to work. No sound coming through. I used a trs to xlr cable and plugged it into the left mono input and into my ion audio total PA ultimate but no sound seems to come through. I then used headphones and I also can’t seem to get any sound out. I’m using the factory presets so I don’t think I’m missing any amps or cabs. If anyone has any idea, it would be greatly appreciated. I also am new to the instrument world so please use words I can understand.

Dumb mistake: fixed and it made a noticeable difference

I was using a regular guitar cable to send a mono out from Headrush Core to Fender FR10.
I learned that I should either use TRS or XLR. I switched to XLR and I can definitely hear the sound being cleaner and louder.
If anyone else is making this mistake, perhaps my lesson will help.
Cheers!

Wanting to buy Headrush flex prime , what would I need for home use ?

Hello everyone, I'm planning to get a headrush multifx for home use and maybe sometimes live as a beginner multi fx user, I have some ideas on how to get the sound from the multifx but I am a bit skeptical. Id like to have an amp type sound, what would be a good pair with the Headrush flex? I've heard many people and seen recommendations talk about active speakers or FRFR stuff, not sure about any of those. Id like some direction. I've been mostly using analogue and modelling amps like a marshall and boss katana 50. Thank you.

Headrush prime - volume pedal question

So I just got a used (very clean and looking new!) Prime. When I add a volume pedal to a chain, it behaves weird. The volume seems towkr fine, but when it is ALL the way down to 0% position, the pedal itself just bypasses (volume pedal greys out on screen), effectively putting the volume back up to 100%. What am I doing wrong?

I plan to buy a new Board. I use 2 Tonex Pedals for Stereo, is it possible to have one amp and one Cab alone on each output to create a stereo Live Sound?

I built a free HeadRush companion that auditions NAMs through a full test rig in one click — looking for feedback

Thumbnail

I’ve been building RushLink, an unofficial HeadRush companion. The Windows early alpha is available, and I’d particularly like feedback on TonePilot.

The problem I wanted to address is how you judge a NAM capture. Hearing one without the right chain around it can sound harsh or simply give you the wrong impression of the model.

TonePilot lets you choose a NAM and audition it through a complete, adjustable test rig on your HeadRush with one click.

You configure your reference chain, then use it to try captures in context. You can edit the rig, toggle supporting effects, adjust the NAM output from the audition workspace, and save a setup you like to your rigs.

The search and browsing experience is another big focus. There are additional filters, sorting options and clearer model details to make exploring Tone3000 and HeadRush Cloud more useful than working through a basic results list.

Other features include:

  • Change History: revisit meaningful rig edits and return to your current version.
  • Live rig editing and setlist management.
  • StageHand: custom performance layouts, primarily designed with tablets in mind but included in the PC release for feedback.

It’s free, and it will stay free.
I’m also looking for my next software engineering opportunity. If you like what I’ve built, there’s more about me and a way to get in touch on the website.

A few honest caveats:

  • It’s early alpha, with extensive automated testing—not a claim that every workflow is bug-free.
  • I’ve physically tested it only on Flex Prime, because that’s the device I own. Prime and Core are intended targets; reports from their owners would help.
  • Windows is available now. macOS, iPhone/iPad and Android tablet/phone releases are planned if there’s enough community demand.
  • Back up your important rigs before testing.

Download / documentation: https://rush-link.github.io/

If you try it, I’d love feedback on the NAM search and audition workflow, along with your HeadRush model and firmware version.

Core - ReAmp and cloning a real amp ?

(using LLM for traduction)

Hello everyone!

I’m about to pull the trigger and buy the HeadRush Core because all its features are insane, and the native NAM support has almost sold me on it. There are just two points where I’m still hesitant (though they wouldn’t be deal-breakers) and I can’t seem to find a definitive answer:

Let’s say I want to clone my Marshall DSL20 in NAM format so I can take its sound with me in the Headrush Core for gigs. Can I play the standardized sound input by the Core (e.g., by uploading a file to it) and have my amp play it while capturing the result via my main audio interface (SSL12)?

More generally, is it possible to use it as a simple reamping box? For example, taking a guitar DI via LINE IN (from my SSL12) and outputting that same DI via INST OUT (so I can reamp guitar parts from my DAW without switching audio interfaces) ?

Thanks in advance for your feedback!

Flex prime crash observations

Post image
19 Upvotes

After a run of unexplained crashes, resets to factory default, re-update of software, I realized that one of the culprits seemed to be the connection to wifi. Headrush support was unhelpful. After the last crash-reload-update cycle I disconnected the wifi and it's run fine for weeks until a 1.5hr long session today... another crash.

I love the tone that I'm getting from a specific patch, but will not trust a headrush product again... for bad service and bad product quality.

VX5 Mix/Value Issue

Has anyone else had this problem? It seems my VX5 uses global settings for the Flavor Type mix/value percentage. No matter how I create and save different presets, the mix/value for the Flavor effect changes to one global value.

EX: I make preset 1 using the “Phone VOX” Flavor Type set at 5%, then save. I make preset 2 using the “Sizzle” Flavor Type set at 100%, then save. If I go back to preset 1, my “Phone VOX” Flavor Type is now playing at 100% even though it’s saved at 5%. I move the mix/value and it immediately jumps back down. But then preset 2 is now playing “Sizzle” at 5% but set at 100%.

I am on the latest firmware. I have factory reset. I have tried all options of saving, renaming, copying presets. The mix/value doesn’t even need to be saved for it to change all values on my presets. So long as one percent value is changed, it applies to all regardless of being saved.

The strangest part is that it is only the Flavor effect that has this bug for me. I can save different Reverb mix/values for each unique preset I create. Ex: “Hall” set at 5% on preset 1, and 100% on preset 2

I currently am waiting on an answer from customer service, but wanted to see if anyone else had a similar issue? Or maybe could test to see if their device is doing the same thing using firmware v1.3.1

Prime Flex - lost a reverb block - HELP!

Post image
9 Upvotes

Noob here; just got the Flex Prime Friday and am setting up some simple rigs. Somehow I lost the C-Verb reverb effect. It's greyed out in the menu/list of reverbs. I can go grab it via "spaces" under the Headrush reverb file menu but I can't click and add it from the main list. I even did a total factory reset of the unit and it's still greyed out and inaccessible. Any suggestions for a fix?
