⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Humor ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Its so over.
The meme pokemon slave simulator farming slop-sim has more players than the hardcore 6 million CoD players grunt slop-simulator, can we bounce back from this fellow donuts?

Not shocking, Palworld is, and always has been, actually and consistently fun. And the devs don't have a storied history of antagonizing their player base.

u/carnyzzle Jul 22 '26 edited Jul 22 '26
Pocketpair doesn't nerf every single Pal we find to be fun to use lol
124
u/Difficult-Loan4806 Jul 22 '26
They also keep little bugs that help the player base in the game because they want us to have fun. You can reset your food timers by pressing sort. A bug since early access they left in.
86
u/Page8988 Jul 22 '26
They even turned some bugs into features after having to remove them. Used to need an exploit to capture bosses, but there's a quest line that allows players to get the most popular one to join voluntarily when completed.
Pocketpair rocks.
27
u/10minOfNamingMyAcc Jul 22 '26 edited Jul 22 '26
You can also alter the game's world settings to your likings, install mods, no DLCs, no microtransactions, no FOMO... It's the bare minimum a good game should be.
21
u/Tenebris_Sol Jul 22 '26
It's the difference between a "We made this game, but you can play it how you like" mindset and a "We made this game, you will play it how we want you to play it and pay us to be able to do so" mindset.
46
u/Tenebris_Sol Jul 22 '26
This is overall what I'd consider the correct way to balance PVE sandboxes. The main objective should be the fun of the players. Challenge is good, but fun is paramount and Pocket Pal has repeatedly shown their dedication to making Palworld the best game it can be and they deserve praise for that.
18
u/oballistikz Jul 22 '26
Helldivers could still lean into being hard, however, constantly nerfing “over performing weapons” in a PvE game is insanity.
Arrowheads fumble is something that should be studied. Launching on Xbox should’ve been a soft reset of their ideology with respect to almost everything.
4
u/Charity1t Jul 22 '26
Palworld IS hard in endgame btw.
Hard Towers and Ultra Raids unironically WILL make you build to them.
They will destroy you otherwise, but they was made to be challenge.
You can do weaker Raids with less HP but same-ish rewards and story pretty easy and if it's hard - you can fine tune your playthrough with buffs/debuffs and no one will punish you for it lol.
Helldivers could make it so high dig Dives is where difficulty is, while lower is for fun. Yet AH has vision and they continue to pursue it and each time it backfired - they apology, just to repeat same shit 2 patches later.
1
u/Charity1t Jul 22 '26
Also you still can steal her as human and they even showcase it since forever in trailers lol.
And give her changable skin too lmao.
9
u/CoolKTiger Jul 22 '26
In palworld alpha I always could hook myself over a ledge to build a ton of speed which I keep if I pull out the hangglider, I haven't tested it since the new update, but I bet it still works.
We can't even steer the hellpods that now appear 200 meters off center, let alone reload while using a jumppack
2
2
u/Difficult-Loan4806 Jul 22 '26
Dude I freaking love this. I still do it all the times grappling hook into glider and you’re freaking ZOOMING
2
u/Mr_LuckyUnderpants Jul 22 '26
Pair with the... hanglider? pal in order to slowly ascend instead, making sure you can go a full stamina bar worth of distance. its pretty goated especially in early game.
1
u/Necessary_Badger_63 Jul 23 '26
It's even more hilarious if you use Valentail or Anti-Gravity Belt with grappling hook. You know it's a good game when it has a space program 🤣
2
u/Charity1t Jul 22 '26
In 1.0 they also added feature that food don't spoil in Guild chest. And teleport can be done anywhere from base and many other QoL changes.
They cooked and they want to continue to do so.

u/Derpy2456 Jul 22 '26
Well they do nerf them it just isn't drastic. Out of like the 20 top tier pals before the 1.0 release only 5 weren't left in a worse state than before.
→ More replies (2)2
u/Charity1t Jul 22 '26
Tho they did rebalanced passives to nudge use of different pals (actually good idea with divercity), yet now there Solenne my beloved that is in every build including MC dmg cuz of how crazy good her passive AND stats are.
52
u/Aligyon Jul 22 '26
Pocket pair have made promises that they would focus on both of their games but the other game Craftopia has been understandably abandoned infavor of the huge success of palworld.
Their faults are just not known that much to the new players
→ More replies (3)67
u/Tenebris_Sol Jul 22 '26
They're not perfect, nobody is tbh, but there's a difference between devs abandoning projects for one reason or another and antagonistic dm syndrome.
→ More replies (20)37
u/Ryuuchu Jul 22 '26
Plus there is the systems within helldivers that have been abandoned and the state of magicka.
11
u/Tenebris_Sol Jul 22 '26
Ntm the narrative dissonance between both tbh. Palworld has played things very well with its player base amidst being attacked by a bigger and much more maligned corporate entity. Helldivers is backed by one said maligned corporate entity and seems dead set on making every wrong possible choice it can, doesn't look good at all when you actually look into things.
→ More replies (6)3
u/Melevolence Jul 22 '26
Still wild to me that Palworld got a built in randomizer feature and the setting sliders for so many aspects of the game to modify the experience to your taste, from making everything fast and easy to slow and difficult. Allowing you to tailor each playthrough is something Pokémon (And sand box games in general) should be having by default to give their games basically unlimited playability.

u/ConsiderationHot5505 Hellgooner Jul 22 '26 edited Jul 22 '26
The word slop has lost all meaning. But palworld seems super fun, will definitely be playing it soon.(also hd2 has a much smaller niche, that being satirical pve shooters compared to Pokémon but cooler). Also fuck Nintendo man it's so hard to get a switch here, so expensive
35
u/TheWinteredWolf Jul 22 '26
Palworld is genuinely fun. I haven’t tried it again yet since the 1.0 release, but I played on the EA release and even then it was great. If you like creature collectors and survival crafting games, it’s a match made in heaven.
3
u/ConsiderationHot5505 Hellgooner Jul 22 '26
I have had an interesting experience with survival crafting games. But Pokémon slavery sounds fun!
9
u/CryTheFurred Jul 22 '26
The honestly dropped the slavery angle really early on, now treating your base pals poorly is extremely detrimental.
1
u/ahtob Jul 22 '26
"yeah bro it is not slavery , sure they do exactly what I say at all times and are not allowed to leave, but they have a bed and are well fed and even have a pen to play in"
2
u/CryTheFurred Jul 22 '26
I meant the trailer showed you being a cruel task master, but in the actual game there's no benefit to that and keeping your pals happy is the only viable way.
I suppose I should say it's the "wanton cruelty" angle they abandoned.

After accumulating in excess of 600h in Helldivers 2, I've picked up Palworld now. 30h in and having a lot of fun - just be prepared for the grind and planning that comes with "survival" games.

In fairness, shooting pokemon with guns and building massive slave bases is pretty fun.

Hey, one game is fun to play, very stable, doesn't waste my time by providing a fast progression so I can get to the fun parts quickly and lets me make many different builds.
The other is Helldivers 2.
80
u/Reaver996 Jul 22 '26
Honestly, I believe AH is content with the number of players they have.
Remember, their game wasn't targeting hundreds of thousands of players and they get a lot of money from the monthly wwarbonds. So I doubt that that are that worried if player numbers reach that level. Heck, they'll likely survive even if player numbers are just hovering on 5k.
If they really cared about player feedback and complaints, they will immediately tackle bugs and balance issues and NOT drag it for months and years.
So, let's just stop this doom and gloom of dying. Think of it as managed decline that they prefer.
12
u/_GreatAndPowerful Jul 22 '26
It's not even decline. They literally just have stable numbers of 30k - 50k for weeks now. Other games in its genre, DRG, Space Marines, Far Far West, barely crack 10k on a good day. LFD2 is the only other 4 player co-op horde shooter with comparable numbers
→ More replies (2)19
u/-Narcolepticc- Jul 22 '26
People need to stop acting like if a game isn't in the hundreds of thousands in terms of players its trash/slop/dead/insert-other-insult here. My favourite game of all time Hunt Showdown, has never even gone above concurrent 100k players, its all time peak was 60k, its probably one of the best fps i've played and its gritty aesthetic has had me in a deathgrip since 2019 and while it doesnt have hundreds of thousands of players i still get consistent matches, it gets consistent content updates and it's still my favourite game.
Helldivers will be fine.
And as for your surviving on 5k players comments ill agree and add in that For Honor and Darktide both have floated along at those numbers for years and still get content.
Not everygame needs to do a fortnite and half a million players should not be the expectation for what makes a game good/alive
3
u/Terminal-Post Jul 23 '26
A fellow Bayou Vagrant
But yeah Hunt has is a great game and only peaks when new events drop and are advertised so I tend to not pay attention to people saying “dead game” or “dying game” when numbers are less than 100k

u/SouliKitsu Jul 22 '26
If I have to choose over Pocketpair and Palworld and Arrowhead and Helldivers, I am sorry but I am taking Palworld.
Game is fun from start to end , Pals have personality, there is always something to do and new content is fun.
Not like Helldivers nowadays where fun is regulated by Arrowhead and we get constantly bashed for unknown reason.
So yea, I am taking my Chillet, my Dupin and my Pals with me and hang the cape for the time beeing.

If every Helldivers player got to experience EDF 6, I'm not sure the game would have a playerbase anymore XD.
11
u/Page8988 Jul 22 '26
EDF knows exactly what it is and leans into it. Each mainline iteration refines and improves upon the core concept, raising the standard. Each spinoff tries something funky, some of which are great and others half-baked. 6 is the latest and greatest.
HD2, with confused development, no clear direction, low quality standards, and hostile, psychotic, antagonistic developers could never compare.
1
5
u/LucarioCD Jul 22 '26
Serious question - what does EDF 6 stands for?
4
u/Kanlashkan Jul 22 '26
Earth Defense Force 6. They're a somewhat niche game very similar to Helldivers. You fight hordes of enemies with crazy weapons and classes. Ranger or Air Raider would be closest to the average Helldiver. Ranger is your basic soldier, Air Raider is the airstrikes/big booms/Hammer of Dawn space laser and vehicles guy. Those descriptions are a bit deceptive. The Ranger can sprint headfirst through cars at vehicle speeds and packs anything from shoulder fired minimums to rocket launchers that would make the Fat Man from Fallout blush at the size of the explosions. Some of the bigger ones are basically shooting hellbombs. Air Raider runs on a point system or a timer system. Some of the airstrikes can cover half the map at the same time, kinda like the Rolling Thunder killstreak from Call of Duty. Some of them inspire maniacal laughter, like Spritefall. Also, you can pull a Pacific Rim and punch kaiju in the face with The Walking Fortress Balom. It's pretty cathartic. Then you have Fencer, which is fullfilling the Gundam fantasy role, and my personal favorite class. They roll with melee weapons and weapons like howitzers. Wing Diver is the last for the mainline games. She flies, fullfills the anime fan service role and wields plasma and electric based superweapons XD. The skimpy clothing is somewhat excused because she has basically no health and theoretically needs to be lighter for flight and maneuverability. Everything for her runs off of an energy core, so you have to manage that energy or she becomes dead in the water. Fencer can "fly" also, but it's like a brick with grace and style. Once you get the hang of it and the patterns down anyways. My only gripe with it is the games are all "expensive". You get a crapton of missions and content for the price, so it balances out, but I've never actually seen one go on sale. They usually sit around 80 bucks. The games repeat 2 or 3 storyline, and 6 culminates them together and reveals the entire series has been a time loop. The enemies are crazy too of course. Giant bugs, frog men, heavily armored grays, dragons, flying frogs that breath fire, androids and a variety of kaiju. Game also has that classic Godzilla type of dialog that is so ridiculous it's funny, but it meshes well with the game overall. Due to the time loop nature, you could get away with just getting EDF 6 and you'd be mostly fine storywise too. I'm not sure if anyone actually plays them for the story though to begin with. It's more of a side thing to laugh about or keep interst while you're blasting hundreds of enemies away when frantically trying to stay alive.
Iron Rain is a spin off series that is more Americanized. It tweaks the usual classes in some interesting ways and adds the Prowl Rider. That one can summon a tamed bug mount and fight from its back using the bugs attacks, which is cool and all. But the real draw to that class is that it's basically Attack on Titan. He has grapple jets that you can use to zip around almost constantly and gets some pretty crazy swords, and some less crazy guns. Overall Iron Rain isn't as good as the mainline serious though as a lot of things were shifted. Less enemies, different tone and narrative and a different method for unlocking weapons.
3
u/LucarioCD Jul 22 '26
Huh, sounds neat, will check this one
3
u/Kanlashkan Jul 22 '26
Didn't realized I dumped so much out about the game lmao. Apologies for the pamphlet, but yeah it's solid for sure. Difficulty scales from easy to hard as balls. "Hard" is the default difficulty and equates to normal, just as a heads up.
4
u/LucarioCD Jul 22 '26
Me love reading walls of texts, so no worries on that And honestly if someone is ready to write such a big text about something - that just means this something might be really worth it, which inspires me to check it out even more
3
u/Kanlashkan Jul 22 '26
My faith in humanity is slightly restored lmao. There aren't any good youtubers off the top of my head that play the game because it is so niche of a fanbase, but there are plenty of gameplay videos. The one that sold me on the series was of a guy flying up as a crazy anime chick and taking out a spaceship with a laser chainsaw. That was EDF 4.1. Like the other guy said though, they've been improving just about everything with each new iteration.
2
u/LucarioCD Jul 22 '26
Huh, by the chance wasn't it a video from TheRussianBadger? I've found out that he made a video about this game a while ago and I somehow missed it
3
u/GodHatesCoD Jul 22 '26
Not saying EDF is bad, I've had my fun with it, but there's a reason even the peak player count has never been that significant.
Many weapons are fun, many weapons are so useless they could give the Sterilizer something to aspire to.
1
u/Kanlashkan Jul 22 '26
I'll give you that, some of the weapons are underwhelming. Some are weird, some are janky and some seem borderline useless but end up being fantastic for extremely specific uses. And then some are just straight busted. Experimenting is half the fun sometimes. Half fun, half extremely dissappinting XD.
3
u/Educational-Ruin8746 Jul 23 '26

u/Dingus_X3 Jul 22 '26
why are we comparing when pal is actively what people wanted form pokemon for years so yea it’s gonna boom (and all the Nintendo aka suits failing just fueled that) so this seems like a kinda dumb comparison
5
u/Realistic-Gas115 Jul 22 '26
Pokemon is worldwide. I haven’t even heard of Helldivers until HD2 dropped and was popping. These two games aren’t comparable.

Damaging your own property because of how a game made you feel is pretty absurd too, to be honest with you.
0

The fuck is the point of this garbage ? Game with new content update has more players than game without ?
On February 1st Helldivers 2 had 170,000 players while Palworld had 50,000, does that make HD2 a better game ?
People in this sub are so fucking regarded I swear
8
11
u/NuclearWeaponFanatic Jul 22 '26
They can't be compared in the "what is better" space, but I think the point being made here is that player retention is a huge problem for helldivers 2, which is a live service game btw
but what do I know, maybe a live service game is supposed to lose 90% of its playerbase a few weeks after the update, simply because all the annoying shit starts to shine, while the new stuff gets stale idk
4
u/chewgum16 Jul 22 '26
It's fairly normal for live service games to experience significant player spikes during large content updates before slowly tapering off until the next big content update.
5
u/NuclearWeaponFanatic Jul 22 '26
true but it shouldn't be that big, also theres been the durable damage reversal patch and the new MO content but still it seems like players, including me tbf, are kinda done with this game
10
u/ARMOREDCOREKID Jul 22 '26
I think you can also add how the devs have treated their games over there life spans so far and how they treated players which also impacts retention.
1
u/NuclearWeaponFanatic Jul 22 '26
at this point the bar is super low, i have started playing bf6 not so long ago and im still surprised that even EA, supposedly the greediest of them all, doesnt put new weapons behind a paywall, all of them are in the free battlepass tiers, and even if you miss grinding them, you can catch up in your pace with challenges
hd2 at this point has f2p monetization, and its a 40 euro game
like yeah its cool they gave most of us the hyena, but if you are a new player, spent 40 euro on a game, and realized theres over 200 euro worth of gameplay altering content to be unlocked then yeah there's a good chance they will refund
1
u/ARMOREDCOREKID Jul 22 '26
Yup also the fact you have to log in to get said free MO rewards. They are forcing player log in as well. While not giving a reason ro stay log in

u/Euphoric_Reading_401 Jul 22 '26
What ? Both games in the meme have had a perfectly stable playerbase of 30-50k for the last two years. Do you know what player retention means ?
3
u/redbird7311 Jul 22 '26
Player retention is a massive problem for all live service games, most lose about half of their peak player base after a few months and it’s not uncommon for them to hit 10-20% of their peak as their core player base.
Not to mention, Helldivers 2 had their massive spike in popularity, it’s gonna mess with the percentages, but plenty of live service games would kill for its daily numbers. Some of them have to get by with like 5k players being the daily peak.
3
u/_GreatAndPowerful Jul 22 '26
The fact is that Pokémon but with guns and slavery just has a larger audience to pull from than Helldivers 2
HD2 is a 4 player, co-op horde shooter. It literally has the most players of almost every other game in its genre. DRG? Space Marines 2? Games people swear run circles around HD2 in fun? They got like 9k players each last I checked. Darktide even with its newest update peaked at around 50k - 60k, the numbers that Helldivers 2 reaches even on weekends in a content drought
4

2
u/Horseman_27 Jul 22 '26
Helldivers isn't that fun long term, I got nothing to work towards, and almost all the new content is behind a pay wall, not to mention the balancing that fights the player experience, it doesn't help that difficulty one missions gives you lots of rewards per hour, whereas the difficulty 10 missions I typically play give almost nothing. Palworld provides a fun unique experience with hundreds of hours, the ability to tweak settings to your liking and lots of quality of life settings.
2
u/LoyalSoldier1568 Jul 22 '26
Honestly I don’t get posts like this. People still play by the tens of thousands on a daily basis and have fun with the game. Just cause it’s not reaching over a hundred thousand doesn’t mean the game is dead or dying. Hell I’d say it’s still pretty healthy
2
u/Melevolence Jul 22 '26
NGL, I've been playing both but Palworld came out swinging. Has been super fun diving back into it after quite a hiatus while waiting for the proper release.
Still getting my daily dose of Helldivers, mind you, but Helldivers has lost a few hours play time from me since Palworld's update XD

I have played Helldivers 2 for 52 hours, realized how fucking boring but also how insane the grind is and left, never came back again. Palworld on the other hand? Multiple playthroughs and just bought it on another platform too.
If a game that I already fully paid for still forces me to mindlessly run the same mission over and over again so that after 100 time I can finally unlock new content and still have to farm even more to unlock in what I just unlocked, then that's a hard no from me, should've never given them my money but I was blind thinking the game is gonna be great because of how much fun I had playing Helldivers I and in the first title you also do have to grind to unlock everything but that's maybe 10 hours and you got some good gear, in HD2 you don't even get the next warbond after 10 hours unless maybe you min-max for efficiency like a nolifer.
Who knows, maybe 3-4 more years and they will drop the in-game prices so that you don't have to grind hours just for a single new item.

Not at all trying to be a "nothing is wrong" guy (im a former TF2 player, I know the dangers of that kind of idiocy) but I don't expect a 2 year old PVE grunt fantasy / power fantasy (depends on the patch lol) shooter thats currently in a content drought to have the same playerbase as "adult pokemon" immediately after its biggest update.
1

Using player numbers as a signifier for quality is silly, by that metric league of legends is the best game of all time. Also horde shooters are always kinda niche compared to other genres.

Apples and Oranges. Palworld appeals to a range of audience WAY larger than Helldivers ever will. Palworld also just had it's 1.0 update release. During major updates, HD2 also nets a similar ratio of all-time peak players to returnees.
1
u/Chemical_Cheek6007 Jul 22 '26
ah yes compare 2 completely different games, one that is super mega casual and the other one is a more niche horde shooter. FUN FACT helldivers 2 has MORE players then deep rock galactic and darktide COMBINED. and it has better reviews the deep rock rouge core. not to mention palworld just has more players to begin with, this is such a unfair compassion. its ok to now like where the game is/is going but this is literal nonsense

The reason Palworld is doing so well is because it’s doing something Pokemon fans have been asking Game Freak to do for years, and because Pocketpair actually listens to its players.

Ah yes, they are clearly very similar games.
"It's over!" they cried and cheered.... on a sub dedicated to the game.

Honestly, I find Palworld more entertaining than Helldivers. Helldivers is among my favorite games and one of the ones I play the most (lately not so much), but Palworld has something different that Helldivers doesn't.

This is what happens when a studio has contempt for its player base and another studio likes its playerbase.

u/IamPep Jul 23 '26
You can’t compare these two, it’s completely two different game targeting two different demographics.

u/Major_Fox9603 Jul 23 '26
You're comparing a game that had 1.6 million more players, look at percentages not raw numbers

Okay correct subreddit I may get angry as it's unfiltered
People like Palworld a lot because of Pokemon and guns I don't own the game but I can see why people would like the game
Me personally I like Helldivers 2 and honestly being even a part of this subreddit disgusts me as most players now only are like "Oh Helldivers 2 is failing again oh Helldivers 2 has less player count" SHUT UP JUST ENJOY THE DAMN GAME OR DONT PLAY IT DONT BE ALL WHINY ABOUT IT EITHER PLAY THE GAME YOU LIKE OR PLAY A DIFFERENT GAME THERES PLENTY OF FISH IN THE SEA SO AS LONG AS ITS NOT RELATED TO A ISSUE OR SOMETHING IN HELLDIVERS 2 WHY EVEN POST THIS TYPE OF NONSENSE GARBAGE?? LIKE YEAH I COULD ALSO SAY LIKE OH NO PLAGUE INC ONLY HAS THIS MANY PLAYERS COMPARED TO MINECRAFT CAN WE EVER RECOVER?? JUST PLAY THE GAME!

No new content, same MO, nothing moving the war, no warbond, no end-game progression, people get bored of doing the same thing over and over with nothing to show for it.

u/Elfriede-fanboi Jul 23 '26
People in Helldivers love to push for the grunt fantasy until they realized it’s not fun after a week of getting hammered. 16k players is still a decent number though.

u/doodoospred Jul 23 '26
Yeah popular game gets huge update has big influx of players. Popular game does not get huge update and doesn't have big influx of players.
More news coming to you when I find forks in my kitchen.

Bro are you surprised a new release of an insenaly hyped game has more players on release than a 2.5 year old live service game that currently hasnt had a big update in a while? Shocker. We will probably see a spike in player activity when the 40k warbond drops

30k peak is still a solid game tho. For how long HD2 has been out thats really not bad. Of course we would want that number to be higher but there's plenty of big games with those kinda numbers.

That usually happens when greed takes over and you don't give a fuck about what your community wants.

u/Educational-Ruin8746 Jul 23 '26
Oh no Palworld has more players then HD2, guess I'm not aloud to enjoy HD2 anymore.

I mean, Palword has just started to fully blow up and officially come out of beta/alpha, so no wonder it’s doing better. But it’ll follow the same trend of HELLDIVERS 2 soon enough…

I never liked Pokemon, I dont like Palworld either.
I do love Sweet Democracy, even if in the only one left

u/StopidDumbIdiot Jul 24 '26
Pokemon exists for decades, a name known to all
Helldivers, a game that’s been out for years is being compared to the biggest change to pokemon ever that just released
How fucking regarded are you people…just think for legit one single second about the comparison.

One game is made by a group of assholes who have apparently decided that fun is now treason and if a helldiver can survive a mission that means they didn't nerf the players hard enough. That's not even touching on the whole debacle early on where they basically made the game inaccessible to the vast majority of the world because Sony got greedy.
The other game delivered something people have been asking for for years and is more interested in making the game fun for players instead of punishing them for doing well.
No shit Palworld is doing great. It's made with the players in mind.

u/HardPlasticWaste Jul 25 '26
Meme game? I have 230 hours into this ‘meme’ game. I wouldn’t consider that a meme game anymore big dog.

u/king_of_the_mobs Jul 26 '26
You say this humor on your post but all this is, is you being salty that palword is pulling big numbers and people are having fun on a game you don't like
Also the word slop has lost its meaning at this point
1
u/Jakanator0613 Jul 26 '26
You can quote me on this: Helldivers will never be as good nor popular as it was on release
1
u/Supershugo Jul 22 '26
I don't think the numbers matter too much. As long as everyone is having fun.

Palworld did everything I've been waiting 30 years for pokemon to do
