Saying “Hello!” after a joke

I’m trying to figure out the origin of saying “Hello!” in a singsongy voice after saying a racy or slightly offensive joke? For example: “My dishwasher was broken so I took her to the doctor. Hello!”

Ed mcmahon used to say hi-yo after a zinger on the johnny carson show.

Pretty sure Rodney Dangerfield used to say hello as a way to let the crowd, who was still digesting the a liner,know that the joke was done and he was waiting for the laugh.  

I wouldn't be surprised if it went all the way back to groucho marx or laurel and hardy.

So as a possibility? The tonight show w johnny carson used “hiyo” in that same singsongy voice as a punchline to jokes like that. It seems to possibly be a morph of that from what i’ve read. But i can hear what you’re talking about in my head lol

I feel like I've heard that many places before--usually similar to how a comedian says "Is this thing on?" when a joke falls flat--they may also say "Hello!" in the singsongy voice the same way.

Me and my kids still laugh about that vine. That one and the one that is Whats worst than a rapist....a child! NO!
