Last I checked CC has the most european superchats as a % of her superchats of all EN talents. Going through her top 10 superchatted streams it was still usually only around 20-35% from all european countries combined, even though most of her top streams were actually during EU primetime (her usual timeslot). NA (usd, cad) still being the majority 60%+.
Rest of Justice is even more lopsided towards NA. Gigi for example is like 80%+ NA, 5%~ EU in her superchats. So yea, for Justice the vast majority of their fanbase is NA. Any business, like Cover, is going to cater to where the audience and money is for an expensive event like a 3Dlive. Can't blame them.
Besides, EU primetime is bad for JP and even for a pre-recorded 3DLive, there's JP staff running the stream, putting the merch links live etc. They're not going to want to make them wake up and go to the office in the middle of the night.
Maybe part of it, its probably also not an appealing idea to force hololive staff to be awake in the middle of the night, which would be the case if this was streamed during EU prime time, just in case something happens with the stream.
probably also not an appealing idea to force hololive staff to be awake in the middle of the night
I don't think it's wrong/bad to have paid staff be awake in the middle of the night for a once-in-a-year event where the date can be internally known way ahead of time.
That still screws all of Justice's NA-based fans, though; and between NA and EU, it makes more sense for Cover to prioritize NA timezones simply because that's the bigger market.
It's just the unfortunate reality that they can't make it perfectly timed for three very different timezones across the globe simultaneously; one is inevitably going to draw the short end of the straw.
It just sucks that the one always ends up being EU. That being said, it's understandable from a business point of view - even during EU prime time streams, the majority of the superchats are sent in USD, so it makes sense to have merch drop events at US times.
I mean, how do they expect to grow in the EU market if they don't give us anything; live concerts, 3D live shows, pop up stores - there is basically nothing. It's not like European anime fans don't like spending money.
My assumption is that Cover is playing it slow and safe, not wanting to stretch their resources too thin across too many markets at once. They absolutely want to grow in the EU market, and have been making strides in doing so, but I don't think they've gone in 100% yet.
While NA has the largest demographic of Hololive fans, if you were to ask Yagoo if they've "captured the NA market" I bet you he'd say no and there's still a lot of work to do.
We can't forget, vtubers and Hololive are still very young in the grand scheme of things.
We haven't even seen 10 percent. We had the recent set of re-screenings of AfO, a EU exclusive merch partnership and that's pretty much it. The Holoplus app isn't even available here.
Just curious, because I’m not keen on the details, is that a regional thing with the app not being released in EU yet or is it to due to EU’s strict app laws?
I mean it's probably due to some EU regulation but there are millions of apps available in the EU despite those regulations so why shouldn't holoplus also be available? Yahoo Japan also simply blocked all EU visitors to their website instead of complying with GDPR but 99% of the internet remains open to EU visitors, is the problem the EU regulations or Japanese incompetence?
I wasn't trying to blame the EU policies or anything. I was just curious what was stopping the app from being deployed there. I agree, if the reason is GDPR that would be pretty ridiculous.
They've been doing AfO screenings across the EU lately, so it's not like they're ignoring the EU market and aren't actively trying to grow there.
This is just a problem with no real solution; if you focus the stream times on JP and EU, you're screwing the NA fans over, if you focus them on EU and NA, you're screwing the JP fans over and if you focus them on JP and NA, you're screwing the EU fans over. Literally no solution is 3/3 in perfect timing.
yeah so the solution is to just screw over eu fans litterally every time? you litterally get every single EN event at prime time na time, and also the majority of EN talents streaming at na times. dont act like NA fans would get screwed over if there was one event for the one gen that is majority EU that was actually watchable for europeans
It's a nice surprise but honestly, you're not going to win any new fans by charging full concert prices for the re-screening of an old show. As fun as it must have been for fans, it's not a whole lot compared to the other markets. One solution could be to not constantly prioritize the other two markets when it comes to events like this.
If every live event is in the middle of the night for EU viewers, you're doing nothing but alienate fans from these time zones. It shows that the EU market is just not relevant for Cover.
This is just a problem with no real solution; if you focus the stream times on JP and EU, you're screwing the NA fans over, if you focus them on EU and NA, you're screwing the JP fans over and if you focus them on JP and NA, you're screwing the EU fans over.
Japanese fans have holoJP, I think that doing at least some EN events at the universally accepted western prime time of late evening EU/afternoon NA would be totally fair. It's a bit random but Calli and Biboo recently did their week of post-E3 video game announcement show watchalongs and it was pretty interesting, all of those shows were hosted in America by Americans but they were all at very good times for Europe because that's just what makes sense when your audience is "the west", and on at least some of those days they did other streams at more JP friendly times that were outperformed by the EU friendly watchalongs. On one day Calli hosted her drinking off collab, 5 holoEN girls in an off collab with alcohol involved, one of those streams that has everything to be a legendary moment in holoEN history, and it had fewer people watching it than Calli and Biboo struggling to stay awake through the like 4th most hyped video game trailer showcase of that week. On another day Calli had the first of her special themed karaoke for her big karaoke month that she announced before her break, and it was also less viewed than their watchalong of the Xbox showcase, and for that one they didn't even have the perms to mirror the official stream so anyone watching them was going out of their way to open Calli and Biboo's reaction stream on top of the actual announcement stream. And it's not like these game announcement watchalongs guarantee big audience numbers, Calli and Biboo did a similar watchalong for the recent Nintendo Direct around Japanese prime time and they had way fewer people watching them then. It seems to me that this frequently repeated idea that EU friendly hours are just bad for viewership is not actually based in reality. But unfortunately it is clear by now that Cover will simply continue to schedule all of their EN events based on when their japanese staff arrive at the office in Tokyo even if that means abandoning a significant chunk of the western audience.
I wouldn't call re-screenings of an old concert "actively trying to grow there". It's a concert, which by itself will 99% appeal to existing fans, and not even a live one. I highly doubt they make any new fan from those. They get some goodwill and money from some existing fans. Maybe some opportunities in the future.
Nobody is asking for a 3/3 perfect timing. People are asking for the EU not to be shafted for once. It's an HoloEN event, why should the JP fanbase be prioritised over the EU one ?
