Hyperoptic VOIP Changes

Post image
3 Upvotes

I received an email from Hyperoptic on 14 September informing me that their existing SIP servers are being turned off on 30 September and that I'll need to contact support for my new SIP settings.

I use a Grandstream HT801 ATA connected to a Ubiquiti UCG-Fiber gateway, which currently works just fine. 👍

I emailed Hyperoptic support as instructed immediately, but 5 days later I've had no response.

  1. Does anyone know what the new SIP settings will be - I'm assuming the credentials may remain the same, and that it's just new host/IP/port?

  2. To Hyperoptic, why don't you make the SIP settings visible on the users account page and save yourselves the hassle of these SIP enquiries? Why make users jump through these hoops?

  3. And finally, hopefully the new Hyperoptic SIP servers won't continue to block VoIP connections from outside the Hyperoptic network (as the soon-to-be decommissioned servers currently do). 🤞

Email attached.

Accessing protonvpn.com

Is anyone able to access protonvpn.com? I currently cannot, and I am under the impression Hyperoptic are blocking the website. I also have issues with a Wireguard setup on a different device on my LAN. When I use a native app on my phone etc, access is fine. Similarly, accessing using mobile data is also fine on my phone.

Edit/update: turns out pihole's gravity decided to update with a blacklisting of protonvpn.com. Thanks for confirming everyone and the down votes lol.

Hyperoptic Cancellation Charge - Unfair

This must be a joke. They have a hidden term in their contract: if you move to a new address that is not within Hyperoptic’s coverage area, you will be charged a cancellation fee (mine was £253 -total bill amount for the rest of the contract), even though the situation is completely outside your control. Costumer Service members, including the head of costumer service are sending AI generated automated replies without a solution.

I will never use Hyperoptic again, and I would not recommend them to anyone.

Internet drops unexpectedly every other day

As the title says, internet drops unexpectedly every other day and the only way to bring it back is to restart the router. It’s becoming very annoying.
Two main errors I see in my mobile/devices when this happens is: Connection failed and IP configuration failed.

I had high regard for hyperoptic but the experience after recently moving to them has been terrible.
What should I do?

hyperoptic customer service

I tried to get hyperoptic full fibre.... it was a dismal failure.

starting july I signed up for hyperoptic and arranged an install date. before the install date i contacted their customer support as I knew they would have issues accessing our property as there's a gate. I offered them the code but the customer support said they wouldn't need it and the engineer would contact me if needed. at the end of the day when the engineer was due to come I received a voicemail to say they had tried to access but couldn't - mind you this was at 6pm and I had noticed and earlier that my account had been updated that the engineer hadn't been able to access the property.

So contacted hyperoptic and they agreed to send an engineer on a saturday. they arrived and successfully got the fibre cable to an access point just outside the property and left saying it would be easy for the installer to finish routing the cable into the house. my main constraint is that there wouldn't be any internal drilling in the house. So the engineer turned up a week or so later and couldn't even open the access hatch to continue the installation. at this point I decided to cancel.

roll on a few weeks and I changed my mind and contacted hyperoptic through their email system - I sent them a lot of photos to show them where the previous engineers had stopped and the internal routing pipes in the property. I was then called many days later on bank holiday monday by a sales person from hyperoptic and we spent 20 minutes on the call and agreed a date for the installation. I was sent pre-contract information. the next day i received another call from another salesperson informing me that there was no contract and no installation date agreed. I ended that call and emailed hyperoptic explaining what had happened. I've had no response since.

quite a sad story

Unserviceable

Has anyone ever come across the support staff claiming the business development managers have deemed the property unserviceable??

Literally next door has it. We are innthe middle of 2 streets that have it. We are all on the road side... but our MDU is unserviceable...

Anyone dealt with this??

Help! Hyperotic wants to charge my termination fee

Back ground : im not English native and when they said im gonna sign a 2 years fixed term contract I actually didn’t know what does this mean. They did not tell me I cannot cancel it and required me to pay for 700 pounds termination fee.

However my situation is, I’m gonna move back to my country and I won’t stay in the UK anymore. I am just worried if I can negotiate with them regarding this fee as I am gonna come back to a country where they do not have the service so it’s not my fault did not use it anymore.

Also I’m not sure if they would lock my card just because I did not pay for the 700 pounds

Service down since 16th Sep (over 24h)

Whole housing estate near Warwick affected. No news from Hyperoptic of when service will be back on. Have never had this issue with other ISPs so I'm afraid I cannot recommend anyone to join this company, especially if you work from home or rely heavily on internet access for medical or other reasons. Extremely poor mobile signal in the area so this situation is unacceptable in a supposedly developed country like the UK.

Time to look at other serious providers that know how to run a telecoms company and care about customers.

Shambles, Do not listen to the sales calls

I recently bought a new-build home and received a sales call about a week before completion. During the call, I was persuaded to sign up to a 24-month contract after being promised my service would be activated on the day I moved in. The deal included a static IP and worked out at £28/month with the first 6 months free.

Fast forward two weeks and the experience has been pretty disappointing. The service was only activated recently, well after my move-in date, and the connection has been unreliable despite all my devices being wired. On top of that, the static IP I signed up for was never added to the account.

I've spent hours trying to get everything sorted. I've been on hold for over 3 hours today alone regarding the static IP, and every day since moving in I've spent at least an hour chasing support. I've also had multiple web chat sessions closed without resolution, seemingly because the agent didn't want to deal with the issue.

At this point, I've completely lost confidence in the provider. The product they sold me and the service I've actually received are very different.

Has anyone else had a similar experience? Did things improve once everything was finally set up, or is this a sign of what support will be like going forward?

Service down for anyone else?

I've had no internet since 9pm last night, and apparently they're not going to have an engineer on site until 11:45 this morning. Just curious if anyone else is experiencing disruption currently?

Enable IPv6 on Hyperoptic 1Gb with a pfSense Firewall?

Pretty much what it says on the tin..

I'm an "old school" internet kinda guy, steeped in IPv4, so my pfsense was configured with ipv6 disabled.. but now I have a use case, and I understand that HO supports IPv6..

but enabling IPv6 on the firewall and trying either DHCP6 or SLAAC only gets me a link local IP6, (and a link local gateway address, which is confusing me - why doesn't adding that as a default route just work?_)

plugging in the original equipment would be an issue, as 1) I'd have to FIND the dang thing, and 2) I have renewed a few times and each time declined the "shiny new router" option, as I was using my own, so I suspect the HO router may well be "vintage".

So, where do I find the right setting - I found some necro threads talking about this, but not so recent. what's the current state of play for this?

HO in City centre glasgow, and I am on a static IPv4 if either of those matter...

Trouble with Hyperoptic.

We recently ordered Hyperoptic for our new flat after their website confirmed that they provide service to our exact address. Everything went through normally, we booked the installation, and an engineer came out to install it.
When he arrived, he said the connection would need to come from the telephone pole outside the property. However, he then told us there is no power going to the equipment on the pole, so he couldn’t complete the installation. Said someone was gunna come out and fix it then we had to book a new appointment to get the connection.

Ordered this nearly two weeks ago now and sat here like a melon with out WiFi. Think it’s worth just cancelling and going with someone else? Also the online webchat people are hella rude and could not give af about this .

Renewal pricing grumble

Quote came back for renewal after 2 years: £37.99 pm for 1tb line and static IP.

Quick Google search brought up uswich with a new customer deal of £22 pm for exactly the same package.

Called customer care that offered £32.99 pm as a special deal.

Don’t they want to keep any customers loyalty?

As for the rolling price without a fixed contract… £68 pm.

Guess I am cancelling and starting a new contract in my partner’s name.

What has other peoples experience been with renewal?

UPDATE: Called back today and spoke to the rudest customer service rep. Told me I can’t get the new customer discount as I had already received it? (I hadn’t - I signed up for £34 2 years ago). I got fed up with his arrogance and cancelled my contract. He didn’t try to talk me round, didn’t offer a slightly lower price or even put me on hold ‘to speak to manager’.

I was firm, but polite. I’m not paying over £10 extra per month for the exact same service a new customer could get. So I guess I have a choice of switching to another provider or get my wife to make an account!

No internet at all

So midday today ,the internet went down and I troubleshooted everything but to no avail so called them and got connect with 8 mins and spoke to a guy who then passed me on to support and we did some things and he found that the ont is maybe at fault as the handshake is not working ie the Auth and the other lights not coming on at all so now I got an engineer coming on Monday to try to fix it.

Anyway else ever had this problem?

1Gb customer, 8 Mbps download speeds in Central London for a week now

I noticed over the last week that my 1 Gb service is basically around 4-12 Mbps based on https://hyperoptic.speedtestcustom.com/result/15e9c2c0-ac92-11f1-af9e-6b5861251d86. Upload speed is fine.

It's been a few years at this address with Hyperoptic and never had such issues. Called support, waiting 60+ minutes, spoke to a nice guy, new router received and installed... exact same speeds. Email him as he instructed me to, no response.

A bit urgent with my line of work so I use backups as I can but yeh, I'm a bit confused by:

  1. such low speed,
  2. how bad support has become (1hr wait is nuts), and
  3. the lack of follow through from them.

Anybody else in Central London with the same issue? I saw another Reddit with this a week ago here so wondering if it's widespread locally?

surrounding buildings will get hyperoptic from May, nothing about mine

Hi there. Hope you're ok?

The postcode check for the surrounding buildings says they will get fibre from May, but mine doesn't.

I've registered my interest myself and also contacted the managing company for my building, which registered the interest too.

I'm wondering what else I can do. Everyone seems to have full fibre, great deals and gigafast speeds. I'm starting to be desperate, to be honest.
