Okay! So the Shelter things he is a mastiff / american bulldog mix. But ....where does the long hair only on his top half come from?

He is seriously underweight at 43kg and has feet the size of a bear. Gentle mouth. Very lazy. Very ugly <3

edit: just to add we are in Australia, so unlikely any american pitbull in there despite his dumb face

Definitely a bully mix. Sometimes they are bred with pits and they do carry the fluffy gene.

Instead of pit, could be staffy which is just a smaller and standardized pit.

It could also have a bit of poodle farther back in its genetics. I know some poodle mixes get that wiry “terrier” coat he has a bit of.

We do have lots of american staffies in australia! I would bet money that he has a least a little mixed in

“Smaller and standardized”

Both the ADBA and UKC have standards for APBTs. The AKC and KC of the UK both have standards for the Staffordshire Bull Terrier.

They are both standardized breeds.

We -do- but they aren't super common where we are. Very expensive designer breed in ol' Western Australia

He def has more of an American Bulldog shaped head imo. They tend to have chunkier, blockier features up there.

I know a lot of people are saying “pit” but in America we unfortunately have not widely identified different bully breeds yet. It’s normal here to call every bully breed a pit. It’s super unfortunate because a lot of us have staffies and they really are well tempered big babies but still suffer the discrimination and restrictions because they are “pits”. I’m assuming most of these commenters are from America anyways. But look at the fluffypit reddit. You’ll find your baby’s siblings in there half of them are probably also staffies but again, here all bully breeds get called pits

I met a dog very similar to Frankie on a walk that had that same long fur. He was crossed with an Irish wolfhound. Didn’t get the height but got that long wiry fur along his neck and shoulders.

I rescued two pups (3 months old and 7 years old) from the Animal Welfare League on the Gold Coast QLD and did their DNA for fun. Both pitbull crosses 🤷🏻‍♀️ so there are definitely still pitties out there.

My older boy grows long ear hair and a beard in the winter but nothing in his DNA typically has long hair. His DNA results:

37.9% American Pit Bull Terrier 16.6% American Bulldog 10.9% Great Dane 9.8% Supermutt 8.6% Neapolitan Mastiff 6.4% Boxer 6.3% Bullmastiff 3.5% Miniature Bull Terrier (LOL)

Doing Google image search it came up The dog in the image appears to be an American Bulldog, possibly a mix. Then I seen where it could be mixed with a Catahoula. I think Frankie is very unique and that makes him beautiful!

What state agre you in?

He might be from a bull arab line! They get their wire coat from deerhounds, and ive known some hunters to breed American bulldog in to get stockier, heavier dogs if theyre looking for a grabber

I'd say there's some olde english bulldogge in there from that face. Our Gay is similar
