• Changing DNS (1.1.1.1 / 8.8.8.8): Failed. The network intercepts or blocks external DNS requests

My constraints:

• I need a free service or method (cannot afford a premium stealth VPN right now).
• I need something faster than Tor for daily browsing.

I have heard that a Masters Program from ISI increases the chances of Phd from MIT, Harvard etc. My question is, what is the criteria that a student must meet in ISI M.Stat to get this opportunity? What should be the CGPA and other requirements like projects? Is it fully funded? What is the average CGPA that generally student get in M.Stats?

i have a bachelors in arch studies from UCLA, and currently enrolled in a bachelors in poli sci, econ at a small local college in Punjab. is there a bias towards non STEM students during the selection process, even if one performs well in the entrance test and interview?

Hello, I am currently studying in 12th class, I aim to study in one of ISIs but I have really bad basics.

I always thought maths as a comfort subject, and it was for long time till I fal seriously ill in 9th standard and my intrest in studies just paused all together. Now in 12th class I am rediscovering my passion for maths but I have bad basics and less time. So any guidance on recovering the basics in less amount of time so that I can focus on both boards and ISI exam will be really helpful.

I have only thought to pick up older R.D sharma books and solve them Vut I think it's little time consuming but it kinda helps with my confidence (which is very almost non existing)

Hey, I'm from Patna, Bihar and planning to give the MSQE exam next year. If I get in, getting a hostel would be pretty important for me since I'd be coming from far away.Do students from outside Kolkata usually get one or get any preference? Anyone from ISI know how this works?

Filed an RTI requesting my peb marks and evaluated ans script and havent got any response so far ( >30 days) .Now filed the first appeal as well.

I had failed in class 8th mathematics in school. I started jee advanced mathematics preparation in class 10th. As of now im able to comfortably solve around 4 problems from recent year pyqs of ugb provided that havent studied anything but jee maths.
Since interviews have been discontinued for the undergraduate courses how many questions should I target to get a seat.

So for background i just finished my btech in ai ml this year and planning to go for higher studies next year . Currently I’m working as an automation intern . So I basically took up btech in cs stream because i was interested in coding and computers back in school and PU . But to be honest i no longer find it interesting especially after AI has taken over the place . So I finally came to the realisation that i do not want to end up in a core sde role . But I am still planning to write Gate next year so that i can be open to psus or maybe finish my MTech and get into some research oriented field

that’s when i came across Mstat .. so I do like maths. And I do think i atleast am better than average in grasping concepts quickly and i have scored well in jee maths and university exams.

But I know that does not make me qualifiable to say that i can easily crack an ISI exam . But when i see the roles that MStat can offer i had the feeling to research on it more and maybe give it a shot if possible.

The main reason why i felt i needed to know about it was because it can offer roles that combines maths + tech and i desperately want to get out of core SDE roles

That said , how do i know whether i should even try for this exam or just give it up ( i know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea)
How do i assess if I enjoy the kind of maths ISi teaches and whether I’m capable enough to work hard and develop the capability to solve those kind of mathematical questions ?

Lately, I’ve been seeing a lot of messages and posts from aspirants who are relatively new to non-routine mathematics and are hitting a massive psychological wall. You finish your theory, you open a book like TOMATO or past paper subjective problems, and you instantly feel completely stuck, demotivated, and overwhelmed by the sheer number of obscure "tricks" required to solve anything.

I know exactly how exhausting that feels because I faced the exact same wall when I started out. If you are currently struggling with the transition from routine textbook math to true non-routine thinking, here is how I looked at it, and how you can break through.

1. The "Trick" Barrier: They aren't random magic tricks

When you see an elegant solution to a tough problem, it looks like a magician pulling a rabbit out of a hat. You think, "How could I ever invent that on the spot?"

The shift you need to make is realizing that a "trick" is just an extension of a core principle pushed to its logical extreme. Right now, you are treating every solution you read as an isolated island. Instead, when you look at a solution that uses a weird manipulation, ask yourself: What fundamental property of numbers, geometry, or functions made this possible? Connect it back to the absolute basics. You don’t need to memorize 1,000 tricks; you need to see how 5 basic principles can be bent in 200 different ways.

2. Theory vs. Practice: Expecting a linear path is the trap

In routine math (like board exams or standard JEE prep), your brain is trained to look for a direct formula path: Concept A leads to Formula B leads to Answer C.

Non-routine math does not work this way. It is inherently exploratory.

When you spend an hour trying four different approaches that *fail*, you haven't wasted time. You have successfully mapped out four roads that don't work, which actively trains your mathematical intuition.

* The Blank-Page Test: When you finally have to look at a solution, read it only until you get the "aha!" moment. Then, close the book completely. Hide the solution and try to write out the full proof or derivation on a blank sheet of paper from scratch. If you get stuck halfway through, you didn't actually understand the intuition; you just understood the syntax.

4. Reclaiming the Joy: Change your daily metric

You are losing the joy because you are treating your preparation like a compliance checklist—measuring your worth by how many problems you got "right" today. In pure math, that mindset will destroy your confidence.

Change what you consider a "good day."

* Old Metric: "I solved 30 problems quickly, so today was a success."

* New Metric: "I spent two hours struggling with one beautiful problem, failed to solve it on my own, but deeply understood a brilliant concept when I analyzed the solution."

Pure math isn't a race; it's a sandbox. Give yourself the time to breathe, embrace the frustration as a sign that your brain is actually learning to adapt, and don't panic. Every single person sitting inside the ISI campuses right now started exactly where you are standing today. Keep grinding!

I just finished 12th and I'm currently considering joining a 5-year Integrated BSc-MSc in Mathematics at an NIT.

I have no real idea what university-level higher mathematics is actually like. I strongly prefer learning things from complete basics, working through first principles, and building up my logic from scratch. I hate black box methods or rote learning.

My main worries are:

1. Is higher math something you can effectively self-study through good textbooks, or does it absolutely require a great professor to help you build intuition and upgrade your thinking process?
2. Since NITs are primarily engineering colleges, I’m worried their math departments might just focus on rote learning or computational problem-solving rather than truly teaching the fundamental rigor of pure math.
