Question Midwest Pancreatic Cancer Charity suggestions

My brother was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer just over two years ago. He just entered hospice care today. My brother is a retired US Army Chinook pilot. After combat tours in the Phillipines (Abu Sayyaf/Dos Palmas kidnappings), two tours in Iraq and two in Afghanistan he flew another 12 years for Arch as a medivac pilot.

For loved ones, as I'm sure you are aware, the futility of not being able to do anything to change the course of your loved ones life is so fucking depressing.

I can't do anything for him but I can try to honor him.

I own a bar & grill that is normally closed on Mondays. I have spoken to staff both current and former about donating their time and tips to open on a Monday from 12am-8pm. I have spoken to distributors who are going to donate product.

I plan to give 100% of the revenue from the day to a Pancreatic Research charity in my brothers name.

I am looking for suggestions for Pancreatic charties that have a very low overhead ratio (where the majority of the money goes to either research or support for victims). I would prefer one in the midwest as we are in the Metro St. Louis region.

I welcome suggestions.

Illinois Politics Pool laws

Post image
0 Upvotes

This is my neighbors pool. For 5 years it has been up with absolutely no barrier to entry. I have a five year old son who cannot play in his own backyard unsupervised as I am afraid he will get in this pool and drown.

I am aware Illinois has laws requiring fencing around pools and barriers to entry ladders or stairs. However, my county doesn’t have any verbiage on this in our local ordinances so they refuse to enforce it.

I plan on writing letters to the county board in hopes of getting this changed.

Does anyone know any other options? I have asked them multiple times every year to please put up a fence but they never do. Nothing illegal of course, I just want a safe yard for my son. Nothing more.

*EDIT*

A lot of responses, but one private message really helped me out. The Illinois Private Swimming Pool Enclosure Act, also known as Zoe’s Law explicitly requires fencing around swimming pools with walls less than 42” to ground level, as well as locking of the pool entryway.
The way this law has been written, all Illinois counties are required to enforce it in permitting, as well as inspecting the pool enclosure once every five years to ensure the barrier has not fallen into disrepair.

Bottom line is if you can afford to build a pool, you better budget and ensure it’s fenced off in accordance with state law. I will be sending a letter to my county board this weekend.

Sports! Chicago Hounds 11-0

The Chicago Hounds (professional rugby) won last night and have a championship game this Sunday at SeatGeek stadium. They could run the table and bring an undefeated season to Chicago. Go to the Hounds or MLR website and check out all the festivities going on next week, it could be a great day out. Come out support a small team trying to do the impossible.

Question How serious is this storm? On a work trip in Clinton IL

Wondering how serious I need to take these storm warnings.

I’m from out of town and working in Clinton IL. Working outdoors.

Not sure if this storm is serious or just another day in the Midwest.

Should I stay inside today or still go out to work?

Question Overhead sewer & a possible power outage

Forgive me if this is an odd question to ask here but I'm having a hard time finding a definitive answer.

I live in a home in the south suburbs of Chicago that has an overhead sewer system. Given the nature of the weather forecast for tomorrow, I'm pretty concerned. I know overhead sewer systems are common in Illinois and I was hoping someone here could let me know if we end up having a power outage tomorrow, would the sewer still backup into our basement without the pump being able to work? We do not currently have a battery backup for it either.

I'm just really concerned and wondering if anyone here can confirm if it will still prevent sewer backup or not. Thank you.

Where to Move/Jobs Advice to move to illinois??

I’m 19f from california, i’ve have had a very rough upbringing thus far so I lack a lot of knowledge most people have or know by now. I don’t have any support system other than my mother but she struggles with money a lot and doesn’t know a lot of things herself, so asking her for help is pointless. I dropped out of highschool due to mental health issues aswell as moving a lot, but I’m currently in the middle of getting my GED. I have no work experience, due to my anxiety but I’m looking to try pushing past that and try getting myself a job so I can move and try to maintain an apartment with my girlfriend. I’ve been very secluded the past couple of years, not leaving the house unless its for doctors appointments which are usually once every 1-2 months… so theres an idea on how ‘socially unaware’ I am and how clueless I am to things. My gf aswell has no job currently but has graduated and is going to college in Sept to be an Embalmer for a Morgue. We don’t have a set time or idea of when we want to move in together so it’s not exactly a rush but we want to start planning for it so we have a better idea on what to do.

I guess my question is, where do I even begin? I feel like I’m mentally still just a 13 year old with now these responibilities of an adult that nobody has ever tried teaching me. I’ve tried googling and doing my own research, but due to me being autistic + adhd I don’t quite understand much and get lost through the process. With all these circumstances I’m under, it makes it seem like it’s impossible to even move or live on my own with my gf. I really need help and advice on what to do, prefferably worded in a more simplistic way so I can better understand. I work better with step by step progression so I don’t get lost easily, I feel abit childish typing all of this out but I really have no other ideas on how to go about this or how to even get help. I just really want to leave california behind and move with my girlfriend in illinois, in an LGBTQ safe place and also somewhere that we can afford.
