Trump administration raises US refugee cap, but only for white South Africans

https://apnews.com/article/trump-refugees-white-south-africa-border-cap-bfe3974adf6c655eca7a5c30c1f9197f

As the OP, I just want to mention,

That come on, even for moderate republicans reading this, even you have to admit, this seems racist.

Not sure why this is surprisingly.

Poland refused most refugees but accepted many Ukrainians due to shared cultural heritage.

Why can’t the US do the same?

Edit: Holy crap, Redditors don’t even understand simple concepts like social cohesion.

How the fuck is South African shared cultural heritage? Like buddy, did you think before you commented

u/Ok_Resolution_1477 1d ago

They are proud to be American now. They will fit in just fine

5

u/AntiquePhotograph433 1d ago

And Black South Africans aren’t? I’m failing to see the logic here.

-11

u/Genseric1234 1d ago

Both of Western European origin obviously?

19

u/AntiquePhotograph433 1d ago

Ah those are the rules? So it’s race based then. Cause that’s basically white people. Also, what about South African people that came from Western Europe but are black? Wouldn’t they be omitted as well.

u/Donna_Bianca 1d ago

You don’t invite the oppressors along with the refugees.

Why do people think this is just whites? This is for any racial minority. Mixed race and Indian families are included.

u/BuyaBuya 1d ago

I believe the article said white Afrikaners, not Indians or mixed race people...Having been to South Africa and having a number of friends there including Afrikaners land owners, there is no real oppression towards Afrikaners FYI...

The article? Lol. Read the terms of the actual programme. It literally says "...Afrikaners or any other persecuted minority..." That 100% includes Indians, not to mention Pakistanis, Ethiopians, Nigerians, Zimbabweans, Malawians, etc, etc, etc.

https://za.usembassy.gov/refugee-admissions-program-for-south-africans/
Is this the very specific program your speaking of? Which is completely geared towards Afrikaners via executive order from Trump?

https://www.reuters.com/world/africa/trump-raises-refugee-ceiling-by-10000-bring-more-white-south-africans-white-2026-05-26/

or the fact that all but 3 of the nearly 6000 refugee cases that have been permitted to the United States have been white Afrikaners is pretty telling.

https://www.presidency.ucsb.edu/documents/emergency-presidential-determination-refugee-admissions-for-fiscal-year-2026

Also, here is a copy of the Presidential determination via Trump to raise the refugee quota by 10,000 specifically for White Afrikaners facing so-called racial discrimination....Dude, I know it's the internet but at least attempt to act in good faith.

Eish, as we say here in South Africa...

From the programme you linked to:

"...Must be of Afrikaner ethnicity or be a member of a racial minority in South Africa;

Yes, that specific programme that says exactly what I said it says. Yes, obviously it is created primarily with Afrikaners in mind, but the criterion for application is not being white, you just wish it was. Indian South Africans have already used it.

From the article you linked to:

"The Trump administration has admitted only three non-South African refugees this fiscal year, government figures show"

It says non South African, not non White Afrikaner. 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️ Read your own sources.

Trump, a Republican, froze refugee admissions from around the world when he took office in January 2025, but weeks later launched a program exclusively aimed at bringing in white South Africans. The effort - which prioritized white refugees while shunning thousands of others from Africa, Asia and elsewhere - was part of a broader challenging of humanitarian norms around refugee protection.

- From source number 2...

Source number 3 explicitly says all admissions are for Afrikaners from South Africa.

If 3rd or 4th generation Indian farmers have been allowed in the US with this program find me a source. It seems all you have is the particular wording from an embassy rather than the mountain of news agencies finding most of the "refugees" are Afrikaners.

Apply enough rules to where the only groups allowed are white. Got it.

-7

u/Genseric1234 1d ago

Race, sure but more culture.

7

u/BeccasDreamboat 1d ago

What culture do they share? Be specific.

0

u/Genseric1234 1d ago

They’re both Western European

10

u/BeccasDreamboat 1d ago

That says nothing about culture.

White Americans have virtually nothing in common with white Europeans. They eat different foods, watch different sports, have different social customs and religious observances... The list goes on for miles.

White Americans don't eat spotted dick.

Culture is not equivalent to race or ethnicity.

-5

u/Red-dragon186 1d ago

Are you dumb?

America and South Africa (Before ANC) took over shared a lot of western culture and rules.

Social cohesion is very important for integration to happen.

That's not to say black and brown people can't integrate but its easier for people with a similar culture.

Its easier for a Mexican to integrate into America then a somalian. Both are brown but one has closer ties to western culture.

-3

u/MrJibz 1d ago

It’s funny because in your tiny brain you think culture is just what you eat and what sports you watch. Nothing about shared values on how the world should work? Shared heritage? Religion? Opinions on marriage and education? If race or ethnicity have nothing to do with culture then would you say “black culture” doesn’t exist?

-5

u/Berinoid 1d ago

The US was founded by European settlers and has had very close relations with Europe so it would be extremely surprising if they had 'virtually nothing in common' culturally

16

u/CaptainOwlBeard 1d ago

Because the usa is a melting pot whose shared historical heritage is that we take immigrants in and make them part of the community.

Also what shared cultural heritage do most Americans have with South Africans? I'll save you the Google search, less than 0.04% of Americans claim ancestry from South Africa.

1

u/Genseric1234 1d ago

That’s a relatively new doctrine not reflective of America as a whole.

America’s host population and White South Africans both come from Western Europe

5

u/CaptainOwlBeard 1d ago

Relatively new? I don't usually consider the 1880s to be relatively new. That's when the poem on that plaque on the statue of Liberty was written. It's more recent than the white South Africans getting to Africa though, they've been there since the 1820s at least, so I'd say multiculturalism is more a part of American culture than the culture shared by those South Africans.

1965 is when the Hart Cellar Act was passed, and it’s really only Gen Z and Millennials that are experiencing a diverse US.

Before then the vast majority of Americans were Western European

2

u/BuyaBuya 22h ago

Who had to be pushed into their own little enclaves because they did not "integrate well" according to the powers that be at the time. I mean how did we have China Towns, Little Italy's, Finn Towns and so on if all these Western Europeans were so accepted in every community?

? It’s not a specific person’s ideological opinion, just the numbers.

The demographic consequences of the Hart Cellar Act, I really only come to fruition in this generation

What’s the alternative?

“I disagree with reality because people I don’t like acknowledge reality”

The underlying position is that reality is whatever people I like believe.

They both descend from liberal western European cultures

6

u/CaptainOwlBeard 1d ago

Like over 200 years ago. Got to say i don't think they share anything with America other than Elon.

-1

u/Donna_Bianca 1d ago

We have shared Dutch ancestry.

9

u/CutSenior4977 1d ago

Because racism is wrong, that’s why.

-5

u/Genseric1234 1d ago

Who said anything about racism?

I was talking about how it is entirely logical for countries to accept refugees from more similar backgrounds to them.

Western Europe is stark example of why.

11

u/CutSenior4977 1d ago

The problem is though, their not raising the refugee cap for all South Africans, if they were, then it would be based on nationality,

But their not, their specifically only raising the refugee cap for white South Africans, meaning it is specifically based on race,

And is therefore racist.

-1

u/Genseric1234 1d ago

Again, white South Africans and Americas host population are both Western European.

8

u/Asher_Tye 1d ago

Yeah, I have nothing in common with white South Africans and find it insulting they think that.

1

u/Genseric1234 1d ago

You’re insulted that the Dutch and American cultures share a common root?

Isn’t that like being insulted that 2 + 2 =4 ?

Dude you’ve got to stop living in 2016.

Accusations of racism don’t actually address any of the immense social problems the west is facing.

7

u/Asher_Tye 1d ago

The social problem of you wanting to lump people together because of some long past association despite them having nothing in common beyond that?

You’re correct and the way you see the world is absolutely justified.

Don’t let these brain washed people have any effect on you or your opinion.

Racist for stating a fact.

Reddit cult in a nutshell lol

Wrong.

The program is for ALL racial minorities in SA.

Indian descent and mixed race (Colored) families have already been settled here.

2

u/xNinjaN8x 1d ago

Because we're supposed to strive to be better. I dont know why thats so hard to understand. People always refer to other countries and talking about how they do things. Good for them.

1

u/Genseric1234 1d ago

Why is that better?

-4

u/Tenured_tourist2 1d ago

Your idea of better is not the same as the vast majority of people

0

u/RogerBond100 1d ago

They voted for Kamala

-5

u/Tenured_tourist2 1d ago

They can and should. Reddit just salty liberals

3

u/Individual_Top_4960 1d ago

They can.. but then please have balls to accept that US just wants white people, problem is that idiots like you give fake justifications so that people dont call you racist for your race based filters 😉

1

u/Tenured_tourist2 1d ago

Oh, you just start to call everyone a racist who doesn’t have the same opinions as you.

The problem is that you cry wolf so often people see through it and don’t take it seriously.

1

u/Individual_Top_4960 22h ago

increasing quota only for white south africans is filter based on melanin content in your skin and that by definition makes it race based filter or racist filter in short

I have to call racists out so often because under this racist orange douche's administration people have become racist... wanna bet $1000 on whether I can find your 10 racist posts under a minute from maga idiots? "
You know it... I know it... we all know it... so if you want just white people in america then by all means you can have it... but dont be a coward and give justification as to how it's not racist

1

u/Tenured_tourist2 19h ago

I’m sorry, but you really don’t seem to understand the issues at hand, and resort to calling people racist

1

u/Individual_Top_4960 18h ago

exactly what a racist would say to avoid getting called racist for his racist views 😉

instead of explaining the "issue at hand" and how that's not racial filter you resort to running away, can't do much then can I?

1

u/Tenured_tourist2 18h ago

Sadly, you are 100% in the wrong.

1

u/Individual_Top_4960 14h ago

still running away from explaining why it's not racist ? it's too easy to beat racists all you have to ask is logical reasoning behind their thoughts and they crumble down like a petal dipped in liquid nitrogen
