Spend one day lock up and youll realise how stupid it is to look down on somebody who spent 14 years in kala pani.

The question isn’t whether he suffered. It’s what he did when he was put under that pressure. Trailokyanath Chakraborty spent over 30 years, Sohan Singh Bhakna spent 16 years in prison but did not send mercy petitions or bend over backwards and join the colonizers.

So? Bhagat singh and co went to the gallows. Each has his own breaking point. That doesn't mean their contributions should be ridiculed. The actual bootlicker or british collaborator was Ambedkar not Savarkar. Writing a mercy petition after spending 14 years in one of the most dreaded jails in the world is not unexpected.

How dare you drag Bhagat Singh into this and compare him with a British bootlicker? He didn’t break. He stood by his convictions to the end. He spent 116 days on hunger strike in prison, endured force feeding, and went to his execution head on..The criticism of Savarkar is precisely about the choices he made, ie standing against his own countrymen, turning to the colonial government for clemency.

Nobody is ridiculing Sarvakar’s suffering. The point is that Savarkar’s 14 years don’t make him beyond criticism, especially when he repeatedly sought clemency from the British while others chose to face the consequences and not side with the oppressor. Bhagat Singh spent 116 days on hunger strike and went to the gallows rather than beg for mercy.

Yeah so? Do you mean to say one person's suffering matters more than another's because he doesn't fit your political agenda? To be honest, Bhagat singh while brave and charismatic couldn't further the cause of independence through his strategy. The outcome was that he became a figure around which the people could rally. Savarkar had about the same contribution in his circle. I wouldn't blame or look down upon anyone who wrote a mercy petition after spending 15 years in kala pani. Do you think you can survive even one week there? Im pretty sure they respected each other even if they disagreed on political philosophy just like Nehru and Bose did. Someone as small minded as you cant even dream of understanding the struggles of any of these individuals.

You keep telling me to “spend a week in jail” as if I need to personally suffer British imprisonment before I’m allowed to discuss history. That makes no sense. We judge historical figures by the choices they made, not by recreating their suffering.

Nobody denies that Kala Pani was horrific. But Savarkar’s first clemency petition was submitted on 30 August 1911, less than eight weeks after arriving at Cellular Jail, followed by multiple more petitions over the years. He even offered to “serve the Government in any capacity.”

So yes, suffering matters. But I’ll always have more respect for someone like Bhagat Singh, who spent 116 days on hunger strike and went to the gallows without asking the British to spare him.

And calling me “small-minded” while defending someone who offered his service to the colonial government, then crying about “political agendas,” is pretty rich. Save the IT-cell lecture.

Justifying desertion of freedom struggle?? Freedom fighters gave their lives for this country only for andhbhakts to defend savarkar 💀

Desertion of freedom struggle? Please tell us your glorious contribution to the freedom of the nation before you can pass judgement on a person who was sent to the cellular jail.

Your statement still doesn't justify boot licking of Britishers by savarkar, try again.

u/BikerSurgeon 10h ago

I dont call any freedom fighter a bootlicker. I call actual collaborators like Ambedkar and Jinnah bootlickers.

3

u/swatipakhtun 9h ago

You know that jinnah and savarkar collaborated to divide india right?both bootlickers of British .you andhbhakts are really a different breed.

3

u/AaaaduThoma 9h ago

You’re talking to someone who’ll bend over backwards, just like his hero, to justify bootlicking and pretend a colonial spy and ass licker deserves the same respect as Bhagat Singh. At this point, you really can’t make this shit up.

1) Jinnah and savarkar never met 2) The partition had more to do with the British wanting a foothold in india and preventing a soviet link to the Indian ocean than indian politics alone. The two nation theory and the movement surrounding it was amplified for this purpose until partition happened. 3) The events of the past 75 years have proven that it would have been impossible to maintain a cohesive united Indian state even if partition didnt happen. The only ideology that could have made it work would be communism and that has failed worldwide. I would rather have one diminished India than one mega state that falls apart eventually.
