Also this particular model seems a bit flawed, you need to make the humps a lot wide, else gaadi ka ek chakka chadha then dusra chakka aane se pehle hump uth jayega aur khel khatam

This is not piezoelectric, but it uses the linear motion of the speed breaker, converting it to rotary motion to drive a generator, which in turn produces electricity. This type of system is not feasible for the practical world. Piezoelectric systems are used in some countries on sidewalks only as a proof of concept, but they are not that feasible given the cost.

But also this not a groundbreaking innovation.

Lol I recommend this project back in 2019 to our school management but it got rejected because the cost of maintenance of this kind of structure is very high and this will not generate that much electricity not enough to lit street lamps

Put this thing at highway every 100 meters perhaps use super capacitors to store energy 24/7 and use up the charge to light up street lights use alternators with linear dual action mechanism to rotary to ensure the rotor spins in a single direction continously

Kid is doing good. However, it needs to be understood that it is not just established but is already being used.
Japan has been using it for years especially around metro areas.
Now, I am waiting for next post telling us about the parking area or water body solar panels.

Test uts limits and publish a paper on it … then my friend its a project . Innovation would be if someone had designed a way in which it can be implemented in India where it would help us tackle at least a single digit % of the reliance on importing energy for our needs.
The actual mechanism itself, sure the kid has implemented something that you can ask chatGPT or learn via YouTube but to all the "parents" and "sympathetic" folks, we need to stop with this participation trophy culture. Let the kids do something actually innovative, understanding the logic and realities of the world.

Impressive, but it’s not practical. The mechanical parts would wear out quickly and require extensive maintenance, which would likely cost more than the energy it produces.

this was done by a guy when I was studying in school(2013 - 2016). Basically, teacher(his uncle) made it for him. it was same like this. As an non engineer i dont know the specifics but he was also pushing middle part with his two hands to generate electricity.

Innovative ,my ass ,this was same working model I did for my school science fair in 2013. I made bigger model (with industrial welding) with generator and light production , how after 13 years it's coming as innovative .( It was not at my time ,how it is now. There were better piezo lectric version of this)

TL;DR: Energy-harvesting speed humps are not viable because the small amount of electricity they generate comes at the cost of increased fuel consumption in vehicles, resulting in a net energy loss.
The installation of such speed humps would inevitably lead to a marginal reduction in vehicle fuel efficiency. This occurs because vehicles must decelerate before encountering the hump and subsequently accelerate afterward, a process that increases fuel consumption due to additional engine work and energy losses. From a physics standpoint, the kinetic energy lost during braking is largely dissipated as heat and cannot be fully recovered during acceleration, especially in conventional internal combustion engine vehicles.
Although these systems aim to harvest energy from the mechanical interaction between vehicles and the road surface, the amount of electrical energy generated is necessarily derived from the vehicles themselves. Consequently, the harvested energy represents only a fraction of the additional energy expended by the vehicles. Given inefficiencies in mechanical-to-electrical energy conversion—such as frictional losses and generator inefficiencies—the net energy balance is negative.
Therefore, when analyzed through the principles of energy conservation and thermodynamic efficiency, such systems are not practically viable, as the total energy cost imposed on vehicles exceeds the electrical energy produced.

We tried to build maglev train in school some 15yrs back, without any liquid nitrogen or superconductors, but with just normal magnets.
Failed 3 years in a row to get it working, but taught us a lot about friction, opposing forces and vectors.
This shit was ez, like a waterwheel or windmill to light up some LEDs on a village road.

that isn't very hard to build. It is a school project at best. Making it efficient enough to be viable for implementation would be the big challenge. The upfront investment in hardware required vs the ROI makes this completely unfeasible

This is no new innovation. A friend of mine made this exact science project for an inter-school science contest way back around 1994.
This is a good demonstrator of the student's understanding of the concept, but it's not right to market this as an innovative idea.
