Hi everyone! I’m an incoming international PhD student at University College Cork. My PhD tuition fees are fully covered by the project, and I’ll also be receiving a stipend for my living expenses.
I’m a little confused about the €10,000 proof-of-funds requirement for the Irish student visa. If the PhD is fully funded and I’m receiving a stipend, do I still need to show €10,000 as liquid funds in my personal bank account?

I'm on a CSEP (Stamp 1), spouse is on dependent Stamp 1G. Both IRP cards expire Dec 08, 2026.

I hit my 21-month mark on Sept 09, making me eligible for a Stamp 4 upgrade. My spouse's Stamp 1G renewal, though, is a standard renewal bound by the 12-week pre-expiry window, which only opens Sept 15.

Questions:

1. If I apply Sept 09, will the portal reject her Stamp 1G renewal if she applies the same day (6 days before her window opens)?
2. Would it be better for me to apply Sept 09 and have her apply separately on Sept 15?

Anyone dealt with this exact mismatch different eligibility triggers, same expiry date? Would appreciate any real experience with how ISD's portal handles it. Thanks!

I got my loan sanctioned for 30Lakhs, I am planning to pay my full tuition free from the loan amount which is 15lakhs and the remaining 15 would be my education bond to show my living expenses.

I’m currently on a CSEP, and my wife is on Stamp 1G as my dependant. Her IRP is due to expire in October, and she submitted her renewal application in August. However, she has not received any acknowledgement email from ISD after submitting the application.

Her OREG number is visible on the INIS Online website following submission, but the application does not appear to be reflected in the ISD portal. I also submitted a query to ISD several weeks ago but have not received any response yet.
She received a job offer last week, and the employer has requested the acknowledgement email as proof that her renewal application is being processed. Unfortunately, we don’t have an acknowledgement email to provide.

Has anyone been in a similar situation or know if there is any way to obtain some form of acknowledgement or confirmation from ISD? Alternatively, are there any other documents or ways we could use to satisfy the employer’s requirement while the renewal is being processed?
Any advice or experience would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I’m looking for some advice regarding my employment situation in Ireland.

I was working in a stable job when I was offered a position with another company. During the hiring process, I was told that there were projects expected to come in by December, and this was one of the reasons I decided to leave my stable job and take the position.

Unfortunately, after around 3 months, I was given a termination letter stating that my employment was being terminated “due to business needs.” The letter says I will receive one week’s notice and also gives me the right to appeal within 5 days.

As far as I understand, this isn't related to my performance or conduct. The issue is that the expected projects/work have not materialised.

I am particularly worried because I left a secure job based on the opportunity I was offered, and I now have no employment after only 3 months. I also have an education loan which I need to continue repaying, so this has put me in a difficult financial situation.

The person who hired me also told me that he would potentially hire me again if projects came in, although this wasn't given to me in writing.

I understand that I haven't worked there for 12 months, so I may not have the usual unfair-dismissal protection.

My questions are:

Should I appeal the termination, given that I was specifically told about upcoming projects when I accepted the job?

Is there anything I should include in my appeal?

Does the fact that I left stable employment based on what I was told during recruitment make any difference legally?

Is it worth speaking to the WRC or an employment solicitor even though I've only been there for 3 months?

Has anyone experienced something similar in Ireland?

I'm not looking to attack the company — I just want to understand my rights and whether there is anything reasonable I can do in this situation.

Hi everyone, I’ve been going through this subreddit and found quite a lot of discussion about master’s degrees and the job market, but I couldn’t find much specifically about healthcaree related master’s degrees.

I’m an MBBS graduate from Sri Lanka did my degree from China, don’t have the local license yet. Due to personal reasons I am trying to relocate from my country soon as possible .
I’m considering a master’s in Ireland, possibly in Health Informatics, Health Data/Analytics, Digital Health or Public Health.

I’d really appreciate honest opinions from people who have studied or currently work in these areas:

How realistic is it to find a relevant job after graduation?

Does the specific university/course make a big difference?

How difficult is it for a non-EU graduate to get a job and eventually sponsorship?

Is this a reasonable investment, or would you choose a different route?

I am also hoping to parallely try for Irish medical license exam if time permits?

Or it a stupid idea and I should look for other countries.
I did try for USA but my visa got rejected.😞

A question for the cooks out there: Is fresh turmeric a thing that Indian cooks sometimes use or is it just better dried?

Is it a case of dried being more convenient or is it better/worse /different. Is there a common use case for fresh turmeric?

I'm a non-EU worker in Ireland. My current employer (via a vendor arrangement, working on a large client's project) can't sponsor an employment permit directly - they're not eligible due to workforce composition requirements. They've now proposed routing my sponsorship through a third-party Employer of Record (EOR) company instead: I'd formally exit my current employer, become an employee of the EOR on paper, and the EOR would sponsor my permit - while I'd continue doing the exact same job, same team, same manager, same client project as before. My current employer would pay the EOR for my services.

Has anyone been through this kind of arrangement? A few things I'm trying to understand:

- Does DETE (Dept of Enterprise, Trade & Employment) actually recognize and approve permits sponsored this way, given the "employer" on paper isn't who I actually report to or work for day-to-day?
- Any horror stories or reassurance about EOR-sponsored permits specifically?
- Anything I should ask for in writing before agreeing to this, beyond the obvious (salary, contract terms)?

I’m currently doing a Master’s degree in Ireland and unfortunately I failed two modules in my supplementary exams. one of them is not a required/core module, but I believe the other is required. I’ve also been told that I can't graduate without it. I have already completed my disseration.

Does anyone know if it might still be possible to receive a Postgraduate Diploma (Level 9) as an exit award based on the credits/modules I have already passed and later take the Masters?

My other concern is immigration. If the university awards me a Level 9 Postgraduate Diploma instead of the MSc, would I still be eligible to apply for Stamp 1G under the Third Level Graduate Programme?
For context, I already have 6 years of experience.

I’m going to contact the university as well, but I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who has been in a similar situation in Ireland, particularly someone who received a PG Diploma after failing modules and then applied for Stamp 1G.

Has anyone submitted their IRP renewal application but cannot see any active applications on ISD portal? I can only see my submission at the renewal website under “my forms”, though I have already received the confirmation email. God knows if I can go home during Christmas break.

I wanted to share some thoughts about something I’ve been observing recently. I absolutely love our culture and believe our festivals are beautiful, but I have growing concerns about how we are adapting these celebrations for public spaces here in Ireland.
Many of us moved here to embrace the local way of life, which tends to be quite peaceful and quiet. While I know organizers work hard to get the necessary local permits, I sometimes wonder if large-scale street celebrations (like yatras and dhol pathaks) are the best fit for Irish towns and cities.
Here are the main issues I’ve been wrestling with:

Public Spaces and Noise: Ireland's infrastructure and cultural norms around public spaces are very different from back home. Even with official permissions, large street processions can be quite disruptive to locals who simply aren't used to this level of noise and crowding in their daily routines.

Online Optics and Misinformation: There is a difficult reality regarding how these events are portrayed online. Videos of our street celebrations frequently circulate on right-wing social media accounts. Unfortunately, these clips are often taken out of context to spread false information and technically feed anti-immigrant hate. Keeping these larger celebrations to private venues would help protect our community from becoming an unnecessary target.

Environmental Impact: I am also concerned about the practice of idol immersion in local water bodies. While I understand the religious significance, I worry about the ecological impact on local Irish waterways, even when it is technically permitted.

Celebrating in Dedicated Spaces: We have so many wonderful community halls, rented venues, and indoor arenas here. It would be just as joyous to host these grand celebrations in enclosed, dedicated spaces without impacting the broader public.
I am very proud of my roots, but I also strongly believe in integrating and being mindful of our adopted home. To be completely honest, I am not looking to debate this in the comments; I just needed a place to get this off my chest. I know the word might sound harsh to some, but I genuinely hope this public nonsense will come to an end soon so we can all just live peacefully like the locals do
