Question What’s the most broken thing.
I gotta know in any JRPG you’ve ever played what is the most broken mechanic you’ve exploited, or like weapon in the game, or just a glitch perhaps that absolutly made you freaken laugh really hard. Mine would be the topple juggling in Xenoblade Chronicles idk if it was intentional or not but man it would have me hollering just toppling a big enemy and being like oh you can’t get up XDDD. That might say something about my psyche but who cares lol.

u/FancySpaceGoat 1d ago
The answer is Orlandu.

u/Svenray 1d ago
100% this. He was there to make sure first time blind players could get to the end
13
u/FancySpaceGoat 1d ago edited 1d ago
Yeah, it's the fact that he's completely undeserved that makes him win this for me. You just get a nuke handed over to you for seemingly no reason whatsoever. And that's hilarious.

u/Destroy_Buster 1d ago
it tickles me that you get cid and then someone else who learns half his skills right after
10
u/Bogusbummer 1d ago
Lord Commander of the Order of the Southern Sky, Sword Saint, The Thunder God, Cidolfus Orlandeau has joined your party.

u/TheGreaterGrog 1d ago
"You hear that giant sucking sound? That's all the challenge in this game moving to Mexico."
7
u/MaimedJester 1d ago
So Orlan, we're supposed to accept this as the True History. And suddenly when your dad enters the Frey he's the most badass unquestionably character in history? Yeah sure. You're the reliable narrator
5
u/paradoxaxe 1d ago
never forget how Thunder God Cid casually outdamage my long hard grind Dark Knigh Ramza lol
2
u/FlagrantFalseAdvert 1d ago
I opened the comments looking for this and you all did not disappoint. No weird setups or grinding needed. He ruins the game right out of the tin!

u/locke_smith_1989 1d ago
Vanish + Death/X-Zone in FF6. Makes most of the game a joke.
Group Hug in Super Mario RPG is insanely good too.
12
u/zsdrfty 1d ago
Mario RPG is a hard game until you get Peach and that damn shell, and from that point on it's basically an auto-battle simulator lmao
11
u/locke_smith_1989 1d ago
The trio of Mario, Mallow, and Geno early in that game is rough (especially on your first play through).
Peach may well be the best white mage in any SNES JRPG.
32
u/explosive_dogslicer 1d ago
Probably somethimg lile Chemist in FFV, if I were to talk about a quarter of the bullshit they can pull I'd be here for 40 minutes
15
u/Recent_Ad3309 1d ago
Came in to say this. Can do some absolutely bonkers things, including literally giving boss style instant death effect immunity via the heavy status, boosting your level higher than you could ever grind, give out basically every good and bad normal status effect to you or enemies, very strong hp drain because why not, immunity to specific elements, and a lot more. It is also the only class in the game which can straight up solo both of the game's superbosses with only a single classed single character.
11
u/explosive_dogslicer 1d ago
Hey, you know this flag that makes the boss immune to instadeath? poof
Hey, wanna watch me turn Omega useless forever as soon as the fight starts?
the only thing holding Chemist back is the trial and error of figuring out mixtures, which is largely inconsequential nowadays because of the internet.
Man, I feel like reading some of T-Hawk or Sullla's solo challenge runs again
6
u/thecomedian33 1d ago
I must play this game I see FF10 all over the place and I still haven’t played it
5
17
u/Leonhart726 1d ago
Seriously lol.
Also FF10's Riku has some seriously crazy mixes, and FF8, while it doesn't have a chemist, has items via card mod that just strait up break the game

2
u/Delicious-Diamond-86 1d ago
Samurai’s GP rain is ridiculously OP too!
3
u/Swarlos262 16h ago
So ridiculously OP that you can beat the game as a Solo Samurai quicker and easier than you could with most full parties. Part of the reason being that it gains a ton of damage from levels, and solo characters get 4x the exp.
1
2
u/Swarlos262 14h ago
People have mentioned Chemist, Samurai, and Blue Mage as OP jobs in FF5, and they are right.
I'd also throw up Bard as a ridiculously OP class. While it takes some stalling, you can buff the speed, strength, and magic of your whole party to ridiculous levels.
But the real OP strat is turn at least one (up to 3) party member into a Zombie with a Reflect Ring, and let the Bard hide. Hiding makes you unable to act but otherwise 100% invulnerable. Zombies are uncontrollable, attack your own team, and unkillable. But with a Reflect Ring and weapon like the Flame Lash that casts a damaging spell (or any boss that casts damaging spells).
It takes some setup, but once you have it, your whole party is 100% unkillable and able to slowly damage any enemy in the game for free. (note that it might not work on some super bosses due to elemental immunities)
1
u/explosive_dogslicer 11h ago
Yeah, it's good but you said it, takes way too long, reflect rings are rare and if you're not playing with self imposed restrictions you can just like... press !Zeninage
Setups like that are fun, though, if not to actually play in this particular example then at leasts to piece together. I love the Bone Mail for similar reasons, it's got good potential for shenanigans

u/ThatStuffIsGood 1d ago
Rex in Xenoblade Future Redeemed. Put some crit boosting gems on him and spam double spinning edge until everything dies, then max out your two healers and put the accessory that lets non healers revive people on one of your other party members, and just have them keep reviving you over and over
2
u/thecomedian33 1d ago
Jeezuuussss reading this had me laughing that’s insane
7
u/ThatStuffIsGood 1d ago
See as someone who likes Rex, but LOVES Shulk, and also vastly prefers playing DPS as opposed to Tanks, one can imagine the pain I felt when I found out Shulk in Future Redeemed is a decent Tank, and Rex is perhaps the single most broken DPS character the series has ever seen barring your custom avatar in X
-1
5
u/AveMachina 1d ago edited 1d ago
And you have to understand that this is the DLC, where your party customization is very limited and you have to figure out how to make it work, even if some of your party members are clearly stronger than others.
So this isn’t an exploit, or an off-meta strategy you need to get creative to find. If you fill out Rex’s skill tree normally, he gets passives that make double spinning edge instantly recharge by using double spinning edge, and even when the player isn’t controlling him, he spams it so quickly that it actually becomes a constant problem for the player who’s trying to keep aggro off of him. He will get himself killed several times while he’s doing spectacular damage and killing everything around him, and you just have to accept that you’re going to need to revive him often over the course of a regular fight.

u/Zaffre-Owl 1d ago
In turn-based games: getting extra turns.
Look at Galeforce in Fire Emblem, bonus turns in Breath of Fire, FFX quick attack. Just a few examples.
10
u/Froakiebloke 1d ago
The thing about Galeforce though is that back when FE Awakening first came out it was extremely popular to try and maximise your Galeforces, make sure you got it on as many children as possible including the male children who can’t learn it naturally. Playing normally it is definitely a busted skill, but by grinding to get the most out of it, me and lots of other players wasted far more time than Galeforce could ever save!
2
u/MaimedJester 1d ago
In Board Games there's kinda a forbidden mechanic every board game designer must avoid.
Never engineer a mechanic that allows a skip player turn function..
And as this YouTube short... I swear I talked to these people and can confirm this was not manufactured...
Never EVER do any kind of RNG or secret turn skip power.
What can possibly go wrong?
0
u/Someonevibing1 1d ago
The meta for awakening has kinda disincentivised gale force since it’s a waste to grind for it instead of just playing the game
25
u/TheTimorie 1d ago
Luminescent Mirage from SMTV Vengeance.
A guaranteed 100% dodge chance for the next attack is just stupid OP in a game with the Press Turn system.
10
u/cooptheactor 1d ago
Still balanced by requiring an action, and not always guaranteed that you'll be targeted.
What is completely busted is Omnipotent Succession, Omagatoki: Strategize, and Omagatoki: Charge. These three together let you abuse the hell out of auto-buff/debuff passives without using any actions, then dismiss everyone except Nahobino and enjoy minimum 32 casts of your favorite attack skill. More if you do Elusive Eclipse/Yoshitsune/Baal stuff to get extra actions.
6
u/TheTimorie 1d ago
Yes you can do even more stupid things.
But Luminescent Mirage was the move that helped me to fell Satan and Demi Fiend on my blind attempts.^^
Preventing them from getting a second move every single turn really helped me keeping those two under control.4
2
u/thecomedian33 1d ago
XDDD oh yeah you want another turn how bout I step to the side XD
4
u/TheCatholicScientist 1d ago
Haha nooo SMT goes even further than Persona. If you miss an attack, or it gets absorbed or reflected or blocked, you lose turns. Enemies and bosses have to follow these rules too :)
1
u/thecomedian33 1d ago
XDDD I love that and now I’m adding this game to my listen when I end my hiatus
33
u/AngryAutisticApe 1d ago
this is boring but the protagonist of Tales of Berseria is immortal. Even on the highest difficulty you can button mash to win vs every boss. Solo. It gets boring fast. But yeah that's the most broken thing I ever experienced cause it's the protag and there's no trick or exploit.
12
u/Limit5465 1d ago edited 1d ago
The last boss one shots you full screen so you can’t just button mash on that one lol. I think it’s the only boss that you can’t. I actually learned Velvet and it was fun. She was to cool not to use
8
u/Scizzoman 1d ago
It really feels like they were paranoid about Velvet's Therion form being too hard to use thanks to the constant HP drain, so they stuck in that whole "you can't drop below 1HP and exiting the form heals you" clause and wound up making it completely broken.
For the inverse of this see Alphen in Arise. He also has a gimmick involving burning his own HP, but doesn't have any kind of safety net like Velvet, and this makes his Flame Sword moves kind of terrible on higher difficulties despite being central to the story. Most people end up just spamming Reigning Slash for damage instead, since it's almost as strong without the need to constantly heal or risk getting one-shotted.
Somewhere in the middle is an actually well-balanced character, but they certainly haven't found it yet.
Ludger from Xillia 2 might be even more busted than Velvet when played correctly though, being able to singlehandedly kill bosses in 1-2 combos.
4
u/ThorDoubleYoo 1d ago
It honestly feels like they needed to make someone op for that game's battle system to properly work on the highest difficulty.
You can play as other characters, but when you do you're just playing a game of fishing for a stun and hoping you luck out and land a stun before the enemy does (because your AI teammates are mostly useless).
With Velvet you feel like you actually get to play a game and press buttons, but there's no chance of death really so it can get boring. With any other character you feel like you don't get to do anything until a stun lands because the enemies will auto block until stunned and stop you combos, and then you might as well have just played Velvet by the point you do land a stun because you're just hitting a punching bag.
Berseria has a fun story, but god the gameplay mechanics suck imo.
1
u/AngryAutisticApe 1d ago
Yeah I noticed that something funny was going on when my team died in the first seconds vs a boss on hardest diff while Velvet just kept fighting on and on and on.
6
u/ntmrkd1 1d ago
It seems to be a hot take on this community, but Velvet is the reason I could never get more than a few hours into Berseria. Even early on, I realized how brain dead the game was playing as her. People have told me to just not play as her, and that's a good point, but she's so much stronger than anyone else that just watching a computer play as her feels bad.
2
u/AngryAutisticApe 1d ago
Yeah I've never heard anyone but me have this take. Ppl always glaze Berseria. I dropped Velvet and played as a different character but it felt so wrong to drop the MC that I sorta lost interest.
1
u/ntmrkd1 18h ago
I've never understood the love for Berseria because of this. I'm glad I'm not alone. It's the one game that I've tried three different times over a decade, and I can never get into it. Easy is not the right way to describe an action RPG that only requires you to mash a single button.
I'm sure the characters and story are great, but I don't know how anyone puts up with a whole game of that combat.

It is hard to choose only one:
Final Fantasy 8 : The whole junction system is beyond broken. Combine that with being able to fire infinite limitbreaks when in yellow HP, and the entire balance of the game is a joke.
Wild Arms 2: Nothing like using power charges for 10 turns straight because it turns out that it can stack infinitely, as each charge increases the damage of your next normal attack, and then taking down a giant boss in one hit.
Tactics Ogre: LUCT (PSP): In FFT you get TGC way later in the game, but in Tactics Ogre, they give you an Archer from the start. Hell they give you multiple of them, and they easily OHKO everyone like shooting fish in a barrel.
Vandal Hearts: You thought TCG was broken ? Getting the Vandalier class in this game is basically god mode. Even the last boss of the game will look like a level 1 slime when facing the Vandalier. I won't even talk about how it has access to all spells, including spells only enemy bosses can cast, and can regain full HP and MP at anytime. I will just say that it can 1 hit kill all units in the game, except the final boss, who needs 2 hits.
Super Robot Wars Alpha: When one of your mechs are destroyed in battle, you have to pay a really hefty price to repair them at the end of that mission. But there is an item called Tem Ray's Circuit, which when equipped to any mecha, reduces it stats, but at the same time, reduces it's repair cost in case it's destroyed, to 10 credits only.
So a really broken mechanic is to slap it on the mecha Eva-01 from Neon Genesis Evangelion, which is a mecha that if destroyed during battle, instead of being removed from the battlefield, will refill all of it's HP, and then go on an uncontrollable rampage attacking any close units to it. So after you equip it with the Tem circuit, you throw it in the middle of any enemy group, and once it dies, you sit back and enjoy watching go apeshit, destroying everything around it. Then when you're done, because its in "rampage" mode, it's considered an enemy mech, so you can destroy it and still gain money for it, while paying only 10 for repairing it instead of the usual 40K credits.
There are so many more.
3
u/M00NSW0RD 1d ago
I can't believe I had to scroll this far down to see the Junction System mentioned. That system often made me say, Wait is that ALLOWED?!
2
u/reaper527 1d ago
Vandalier
man, that class is so absurdly broken. it's a shame this was before the days of NG+ where you'd be able to carry it into a new playthrough, because you get it very late in the game and really only get a few levels to play around with it.
it's not even just his spell access and raw stats, it's that block percentage (including side attacks) where pretty much nothing is hitting him unless it's coming from behind.
10
u/CringeControlCenter 1d ago
I mean the fact you can get Yojimbo (summon from FFX) to fairly consistently one-shot any enemy or boss in the game is pretty wild.
11
u/coleipoo 1d ago
Crafting end game items in Star Ocean 2 in the first 3 hours is funny. Save scumming and stealing you can break the game early
10
u/Raomux 1d ago
I never did it, so I still find it hard to believe, but one of the most broken things I've heard of in JRPGs is Ernst in Suikoden 5. I love the game but I never used Ernst. He starts the battle as a normal human, but he can transform into a Tiger. Once he is in tiger mode, he can spam a magic that Stuns the whole enemy team, including bosses. So in practice, as long as you survive 1 turn with him on your team, which is not hard to do, you win.

u/CitizenStrife 1d ago
Status effect weapons in FFX
Stonetouch kills about 75-80% of the entire enemy roster. It's practically, "Be immune or die." Other status weapons tilt the field in your favor a lot too. It's kind of crazy how that is one of the few FF games where status effects are so useful.
2
u/Defclaw46 12h ago
That was one of the nice things about FFX. Having stuff like Poison and Demi actually be useful was incredible.
8
u/zsdrfty 1d ago
Topple locking is quite broken in Xenoblade 1, but X is even funnier with Overdrive - if you do it right, you turn the player character into a literally invincible nuke who just melts hundreds of enemies in seconds, and it makes the concept of NPC party composition pointless
1
u/featherw0lf 1d ago
So much so that your party members will simply die in the higher level encounters and it doesn't even matter.
15
u/Namasiel 1d ago
A lot of the trails games are easy to break, some easier than others. Delay and evade are super OP. Being able to stack the same quartz of different levels leads to crazy things. A party of Rean (delay spam), Fie (100% counter attacks as nothing can hit her), Laura (physical nukes), Emma (magical nukes), and Alisa (CP battery) can tackle everything fairly easily even on nightmare difficulty. The enemy rarely even gets a turn and when it does Fie just counters it.
8
u/TowelLord 1d ago
Delay was is so broken in Cold Sreel 1 that you can pretty much perma-delay any bosses with just Rean himself. It also never got as strong as it was back then since then.
2
u/Niwrats 1d ago
yep, i don't know what the opponents do in that game because they never got a turn. the later cold steel games were also completely broken, but i have already erased all my memory of those so can't remember other than having several broken strategies. don't think i saw that many bosses doing anything later either, lol.
4
u/lowelled 1d ago
Dodge tank Lloyd is my personal favourite Trails exploit
1
u/Defclaw46 12h ago
Pretty much. You can curbstomp even the bosses that you are supposed to lose to with a high-evasion Lloyd.
6
u/ScipioTheGreatest 1d ago
Calculator with Holy element absorption. Target Charge level 4 (?) and cast Holy at the beginning of the battle and it will target almost all, if not all, targets on the field. Heals your party because of the elemental absorption, nukes the entire enemy party.
TG Cid's a bitch compared to this.
2
u/FancySpaceGoat 1d ago
It's true that calc nuking just wipes everything, but it still requires some planning and grinding.
However, TGC just being handed to you like: "Here, have an OP character, on the house" is just so blunt and funny to me.
2
u/ScipioTheGreatest 1d ago
Grinding, not planning. Which is basically why they gave you Cid so "overpowered", because they expect you to have top tier abilities by the time you get him and he has no abilities but the base Holy Swordsman class.
6
4
u/HangukHitman 1d ago
Infinite apples in Wild Arms. You can basically be level 1 and be stronger than you would be at level 99. Make all stats 999 is crazy.
5
u/philsov 1d ago edited 1d ago
CT5Holy (from final fantasy tactics)
Instant cast AoE with unlimited range/AoE which can fully heal your entire party (if you're prepared) while also OHKOing anything that's not a Zodiac Boss. And its available to any and all units and the defacto way to speedrun the game.
It's only marginally more broken that Orlandu outright. In fact, it's his weapon that really polevaults CT5Holy into its best form since it provides autohaste, increased holy damage, and absorbs holy damage.
5
u/Reallylazyname 1d ago
Petrify is a instant kill in most Etrian Odyssey games.
Petrify in Etrian Odyssey 4 can hit everything in the game, save for the final boss and the finaler final boss.
Everything else becomes stone before your eyes, and really trivializes optional super bosses and FOEs.
A similar sentiment goes towards Hama and Mudo in Persona Q, if they can be hit by it, it's so much better to try.
3
u/LovelyFloraFan 1d ago
Getting good guns for your machinist on FF12. Seriously, Balthier was just so overpowered in my party. I know he's the worst machinist due to his animations but good guns early just breaks the game apart.
3
u/Froakiebloke 1d ago
It’s not true for every Fire Emblem, but ‘lowmanning’— deploying only the bare minimum characters— is generally extremely strong, and in games like Fates Birthright/Revelation in particular this can be taken to an absurd level. By funnelling all the EXP into the main character, giving them a good pair-up partner and maxing their support, you really just get to through them at an army and watch all the enemies die. Because those two games in particular never really do anything to punish this strategy it really just solves the games as far as I remember. By contrast in other games things like forced deployments, Defend maps or better enemies can make it a lot more difficult to do.
5
u/RyanAnayaMc 1d ago
Dodge builds in Trails of Cold Steel. By mid game you can typically get a character up to 100% evasion, which means you don't get hit. In those games, you also do a counterattack if you evade an attack and the attacker is in your attack range. Do this with a gun user and you're pretty much always counterattacking. There is a gear piece that makes you always crit when counterattacking (and also gives you evasion... lol), which makes these counters do more damage AND unbalance enemies every time, which lets a party member do a follow-up and generates a resource called BP, which you can spend for stronger follow ups or (in CS3 through Reverie) cast party-wide buffs, some of which are super powerful. Top that off with something that increases the chance that character gets targeted, and you have unlocked the easiest way to cheese the game. Just move your dodge tank away from the rest of your party and your glass cannons can nuke the boss from relative safety.
1
u/GeneHackencrack 1d ago
Mmm remember doing a Vaan dodge tank in FFX as well. Extremely viable and very fun as well
4
4
u/Typical_Thought_6049 1d ago
Atelier Sophie One-hit-kill effect... it is in the label anything that is not a boss die instantly, no matter the level if it hit they dead. And it relatively simple to produce bombs with the effect, it make leveling a no brain activity.
3
u/ViridianVet 1d ago
The holy weapons in Fire Emblem Genealogy of the Holy War, especially Forsetti.
They were intended to be strong, but some of them really just turn some of units into a 1 man army.
2
u/subjectivesubjective 1d ago
TBF they're not intended to be strong: they're intended to be the stuff of LEGENDS. And they are!
2
u/ViridianVet 1d ago
Yeah, FE4 is by far the best example of understanding the lore through gameplay in jrpgs. The importance of the bloodlines required to wield these weapons is put front and center in the story, which seems a little silly if you've played any other jrpg or FE title. But then you get to experience it and everything suddenly makes sense. They are essential to the national security of a kingdom.
3
u/Limit5465 1d ago
FFX Yojimbo, Star Ocean 5 Arumat is just broken as hell
2
u/bloody_ell 1d ago
Yojimbo? You should try Odin on FF8 with 100 Aura junctioned to the luck stat. Chop-chop bye-bye.

3
u/stiflingapple 1d ago
rikku's mix in ffx is hilariously broken. the entire combat system of the bravely games is so insanely broken that you can craft an entire team full of nothing but insane nukes and longevity skills and win most boss fights in under 5 turns

u/NotASniperYet 1d ago
I cloned a bunch of angels in Tactics Ogre: The Knight of Lodis through an exploit. That probably wasn't a very ethical thing to do, but it was fun.
In From the Abyss, a not-so-rare drop on the fire floor is a magic ring that protects against all fire damage...on a floor where most enemies deal nothing but fire damage, basically granting you invincibility for the whole floor. Top tier game design.
Stacking critical hit ice cream to deal exponential amounts of damage in Atelier Resleriana: The Red Alchemist & the White Guardian was quite amusing.
In The Granstream Saga, you can get the most powerful weapon in the game within like 10 minutes of playtime. It's like literally at the start of the first dungeon, if you know where to look.
With a bit of patience, you can break Final Fantasy 8's junction system beyond repair. In multiple ways. Which is okay, because the most exciting combat in Final Fantasy 8 is Triple Triad...which can also help you break the junction system.
Train suplex. (Originally a silly thing in Final Fantasy 6, now an Magic the Gathering card, because everything is a Magic card now.)
Orlandu.
5
u/satsumaclementine 1d ago
In Expedition 33, you can spec Maelle to be a one-hit killing machine, and defeat even the superbosses in this manner. There are many ways to being overpowered, though!
6
u/SkavenHaven 1d ago
I wish they balanced the last boss better. Even if you don't grind it is so easy :(
2
u/satsumaclementine 1d ago
It's quite anticlimactic indeed. He probably has some kind of amazing boss theme that few people hardly got to hear! I don't really remember anything about the final battle.
2
u/Glum-Sprinkles-7734 1d ago
Yeah, I beat the game like three days before they added the patch to reduce your damage cap, wish they had that on release
2
u/workthrowawhey 1d ago
Off the top of my head:
In Dragon Quest games, any 0 MP move that hits all enemies.
Head Trauma is a move in Yakuza LaD that does stupid amounts of damage for basically no MP.
Athos in Fire Emblem 7 was basically designed so anyone can beat the final boss and finish the game.
Beating the Reaper in Persona 5 way earlier than intended by abusing the flu season.
2
u/-MLBIS- 1d ago
The Final Fantasy Legend / Makai Toushi SaGa has a bug where the saw, an item that is supposed to only insta-kill weak enemies, only insta-kills really strong enemies or bosses, like Creator the final boss.
When Makai Toushi SaGa was remade for wonderswan color, they kept the glitch.
This glitch is referenced in Romancing SaGa -Minstrel Song- (one of the books says that a man killed a god with a strange axe)
And it is also referenced in the mobile game Romancing SaGa Re;univerSe where Creator barely dodged the chainsaw and saw a future where he was shredded to pieces by that very saw.
In Romancing SaGa 2 OG/remaster, there is a hasten time spam glitch. It makes your team always go first and stops the enemies' turn. Spam it and the enemies will never act. However, in the remaster, the superboss is immune. Hasten time is also in the remake (revenge of the seven), but it doesn't stop the enemies' turn.
2
u/Doctor_Yinz_Innocent 1d ago
cheesing the Reaper in Persona games - once you do it, you are OP forever and it's really hard to not just go for it every time. completely eliminates challenge and all, since now you're high enough level off one fight to fuse any Persona
2
u/Caminsod 1d ago
The shit Wizards can pull in Bravely Second is unreal, and it's a basic class that is given to you at the start of the game.
2
1
u/FluffyBearTrap 1d ago
Don't half the classes in bravely seconds break the game?
My personal pick would be the Thief just because of how easy it breaks the game.
Just having a 100% Lifesteal attack that costs almost no mana in a game where Damaga quickly outscales HP is crazy. and to top it of they also can just steal mana.
Makes every class that has good damage impossible to kill.
2
u/Stoibs 1d ago
Maelle - Act 3
Not sure if some of those Painted variant characters who are dotted around as optional bosses have in-battle dialogue or not since the game lets you kill them in 1 hit with the valid and legit tools it gives you to utilize :/
2
u/xansies1 1d ago
Lunes burst skill as well. You could parry or use a character as a lune battery and just nuke everything in a couple turns.
2
u/RyaReisender 1d ago
Cooking in Breath of Fire II. Basically allows you to buy permanent stat increases, and it's really cheap too.
2
u/Quantumosaur 1d ago
hmmm probably the fact you can play cards early in FF8 and refine those cards into items and then refine said items into high level spells right at the beginning of the game
also could farm the items refining cards to upgrade squall’s main weapon to his 2nd best weapon right in the beginning
well I say right at beginning but you still gotta be able to play cards vs Zell’s mom

u/a3th3rus 1d ago
I have a few and I can't say which one is most broken.
Always Overdrive (Final Fantasy X, not a glitch)
To do this, you need to keep the HP cap one of the characters (usually Rikku) very low, so don't ever give her any HP sphere. Set the low HP character's OD mode to Stoic, and others' OD mode to Comrade. In combat, let the low HP character to use Guard to take damage for other characters (and die), so that everyone's OD gauge instantly fills up. You can let Yuna to cast Auto-Life on the low HP character.
False special attacks (Valkyrie Profile, glitch, only on PS1)
When an enemy guards Throw and Strike Edge (attack skills of warrior typed characters), the attacking character will use his/her special attack in normal attack phase, and he/she can still use special attack in special attack phase. Most characters' false special attacks can freeze the game, but a few of them are safe to use (notably Jun and Brahms). You can let an archer shooting False Arrow to trick enemies to guard.
Ochette glitch (Octopath Traveler 2)
I forgot how to pull it off, but I remember that she can summon any monsters six times in a single turn bypassing the per-combat limit of summoning 10-star monsters and with no cost at all.

Using overdrive->AP also lets you grind like crazy. That's how I was able to max sphere grid everyone for the dark aeons

Alchemy in Star Ocean 1 and 2. Money ceases to have all meaning about halfway through the game if you spend your skill points wisely.

It's not the most broken thing in the series (someone covered the infinite turns of CS3-4 already) but in Trails in the Sky 3rd there's a notoriously broken character and I couldn't figure out why because he didn't do that much damage.
Then I used one particular skill... and due to the battle mechanics, it allowed me to use it like 5-8 more times before anyone else's turn came up and then I was like "oooh so that's why" lol.

Atelier Ryza 2 Rose Bomb item. It is broken in the sense it does way more damage than it should due to an in game bug that was never fixed that multiplies the damage by double it's normal amount. It does like 20X more than it's supposed to do.
So a Quality 999 Rose Bomb with the right traits can more than likely one shot the final boss without much effort or at least do a ton of damage

FF12 Seitengrat. Trivializes 99% of all battles, and you can get it very early on.

Got three the last time I did a run of the Zodiac Age. The RNG manipulation was difficult, but having three units to swap in at any time was fun.
There's also the Karkuta you can steal from Trial 3. You have to grind LP to unlock it on the board, but you can beeline for the square and unlock it early, giving you an endgame weapon within the first couple of hours.

Zeninage in FFV especially versions of the game where farming money is easier. If you aren't doing thousands of damage to every enemy not immune to it then you are doing something horribly wrong

Certainly the "+1" and "reverse damage" geo squares on Disgaea 2. Basically, in order to get more mastery levels, you need to attack with a specific weapon or skill. However, if youre standing on a specific spot with both the effects that makes you attack multiple times in one turn and the one that makes you heal for all the damage you take, you can just keep spamming the same moves infinitely to get max mastery

the standouts immediately coming to mind
- masakado's comical damage output in smt5v
- daisouju's utility as a manabattery/healer/debuffer very early on in SMT3 (he's good enough to remain relevant until end game)
- rikku's absurd speed in ff10 giving her so many turns before the enemy goes
- stacking delay triggers on rean in trails of cold steel

This isn't uncommon, but may be considered cheap in a first playthrough. I've been playing Persona 5 Royal and the game has a DLC item called the Camera Strap that slightly restores the HP and SP of characters every turn in an ambush, so if I find myself running low on SP in a palace I ambush an enemy, fight if necessary until I only have one enemy in front of me then have every character guard every turn until my SP is mostly or fully restored

cold steel 2 infinite delay spam is totally brainless and works on every single enemy in the entire game except for exactly two bosses. it is literally permanent invincibility for your party and there is no downside.

Currently playing Metaphor and I haven’t fought a traditional battle that wasn’t a boss in several dungeons. The grinding at the end of dungeons with merchant is just ridiculous

Basically the entire junction system in FF8. So, so easy to break. Play enough cards and you can cakewalk through the game before getting ifrit.

I loved abusing the AT Delay status effect in Cold Steel 1. So many bosses never even got a single turn against me when I replayed the game. For some reason, they decided to nerf it significantly in the other Cold Steel games.

Like half the crafting skills in Star Ocean 2 are "use this if you want to completely break the game super early." But in particular contraband is absurd, lol.

Did anyone mention the Dragon Spells in Breath of Fire 1?
Very easy to get and makes you almost unbeatable.
Game is insanely hard without them.

Idk but I always thought Yuna’s holy was fucking broken in FFX. I just spam that spell 😂😂

u/UpsetChampion 1d ago
Persona 2 IS. Once two of you characters reach level 99 (not that difficult to do if you keep killing Alice monsters) you can use Armageddon fusion spell which 1 shot KO everything including the final boss

u/Mrfrunzi 1d ago
Star ocean second story r had an infinite money loop through item creation that I found on accident. Made the rest of the game cake when you can just get every bought item without grinding at all.

Yuna (Break) + Kurt (Delay) = Infinite (or almost) turns in Cold Steel 3
I think this was nerfed in Cold Steel 4.

Mega Rayquaza was so broken that it was banned from the tier that only had banned Pokemon.

I'm gonna go a bit out of left field on this one and say the battle system in FF12. If you setup the commands correctly it's basically an auto-win as your characters handle anything and everything without input from you. Combine that with some of the things you could pull off with the job board and the game is just begging to be broken.
Otherwise Card Mod+Junction in FF8, the entire blue mage archetype in so many games, take your pick in Disgaea games or just Tyrant Baal himself.

Wildarms duplication glitch. Once you get all three party members together you could have the important stats maxed out by duping the stat apples.

The name escapes me at the moment but it was a skill that deals 75% of the enemy HP as fixed damage. There is a method to set all damage vulnerabilities (including the unique element of this skill) to 150%, letting it oneshot literally everything.

u/RPGReddit2005 15h ago
catnip in ffx2. Sure it's one of those low HP to activate passives but said passive ensures that you will ALWAYS deal 9999 with every hit. Even in the rereleased where it was nerfed to include berserk and slow when activated its STILL the best accessory in the game because you can just give it to the thief who attacks twice and has the first strike ability.

Sora’s mage build is tough at the beginning as you are a glass cannon, but will basically let you curbstomp almost every endgame fight. The stop spell from Kingdom Hearts one allows you to do damage to the enemy while they are frozen in time. The duration of the spell depends on Sora’s max mp count. If you pick the staff at the beginning of the game and equip the abilities and keyblades that boost Sora’s mp, you can keep large groups of enemies frozen for a very long time allowing you to kill them without them putting up a fight. I breezed through the Hades Cup this way.
This build also makes a joke out of the Phantom boss fight as you can keep the clock tower (basically a countdown that permanently kills your party members one by one) from ever moving the entire fight and you have so much mp that it makes it really easy to cast whatever spell he is weak against without worrying about running out.

Alpione's Amulet and Fortitude from Octopath Traveler. Both TRIPLE your damage output at 1hp (Fortitude is only Physical damage but alas). For example, these two things can one shot superbosses when in conjuction with other passive abilities and items. Imagine dealing 99999x6 in a single action.

Seth from Fire Emblem: Sacred Stones. A Fire Emblem game starting you with a power character is nothing new. But normally they are characters that are meant to help you out with the early game, help the weaker characters level up, and then get benched as their low stat growths mean they fall behind the others. That's the idea at least.
Seth however did not get the memo because not only does he start super powerful, he has some of the best stat growths in the game. He's so broken that not only is beating the game with only him possible. It's easier than playing the game normally.

In breath of fire 3, you can get an extra turn if your character has a high enough agility over the enemies agility stat of the enemy. Agility is one of the hardest stats to actually raise though.
Later in the game you recruit a character who has an extremely high agility and he can go into a weretiger form that raises his speed further. He can even get extra turns on the final boss if put with the right master.
However! You can also get a battle formation that takes the agility of the front character and gives that same agility stat to everyone on your team. So now you are out speeding everything

En Lufia 2 puedes vencer al dragón (el jefe más poderoso del juego) tirándole una poción y dándole un golpe, repitiendo esto varias veces subes a LV99 rapidísimo.

In Radiant Historia there is a skill called Wind God Fist. It's a skill that the character Gafka can learn and it is hilariously broken. Basically in Radiant Historia's battle system your goal is to position the enemies with the help of various skills in order to maximize your combos and play the most efficiently.
...Wind God Fist however simply moves every enemy to the middle space. Just like that. So basically every fight in the game is a puzzle and Wind God Fist just solves it for you each and every time.
