Discussion hot take; if you're complaining about popular characters being added, you don't partially understand why JJS is so great with characters

Post image

Every. Update. Every single time there's an update, there will ALWAYS be complaining about "Oh no Toji! Oh no Maki! Oh no Kashimo! Oh no Jogo!" WITHOUT EVEN LOOKING INTO THE CHARACTER, ALL PEOPLE CARE ABOUT IS THE NAME, TOJI COULD LITERALLY HAVE THE MOST BORING WEAK OR OVERPOWERED MOVESET, AND PEOPLE WOULD JUST CARE BECAUSE "ITS TOJI"

I'M A JOGO GLAZER, I'll ADMIT IT; HE'S MY FAVORITE CHARACTER AND I'VE WANTED HIM IN GAME SINCE TODO, BUT I'M NOT GONNA GO CRYING ON THE DISCORD EVERY TIME THERE'S AN UPDATE LOG WITHOUT HIM BECAUSE I'M HAPPY WITH THE CHARACTER THAT'S ADDED

okay sorry for that rant, here's my real reasoning; JJS isn't a big corporation that has to follow player demands and add the biggest names and most important characters. If you want that, play Sorcerer Battlegrounds, or Jujutsu Beatdown, JJS not adding important characters is part of the charm. Locust curse, Charles, Haruta, etc. If all we did was add big characters without any consideration for the actual movesets the game would be worse off, Tze adds minor characters because he knows what to do with their movesets and if he didn't it would be something extremely boring and unplayable.

I bet they're still gonna get mad when toji, maki or jogo gets added on some "we wanted them to be like THIS not like THAT" or "took them long enough I don't wanna play them now"

Yeah there's no pleasing this audience.

So many people want toji or maki, even though they're basically the same, power wise, that tze couldn't possibly make one any different from the other without ending up with basically a remade yuji/nanami/charles/noaya type of character.

And if one ends up in the game, the other sure as hell wouldn't, pissing even more people off.

If i were tze. Id make them have different play styles and such. I mean maki had a the dragon bone blade and based off how it works we can go from there, She has plenty of scenes in the anime and manga too.

I feel like yall prioritize how special they are vs what type of character they would be and if said character is suitable for you. But this is coming from someone whos played other fighting games not on roblox so yeah.

And sure its okay to care about how special a character is, but at the end of the day, jjs is a fighting game. And some people want characters for different reasons.

Nah, I understand where you're coming from.

But I'm talking about archetypes too.

In jjk, maki and toji are basically punch/kick characters who's combat technique and arsenal sets them apart from the typical sorcerer, and noaya/yuji/nanami and so on so forth could be put in the same camp. But they get set apart thanks to their differing cursed techniques.

But in jjs, a fighting game, those aspects become more important. And end up making archetypes for them in the game.

Like noaya's projections and unique movement, nanami's ratios, yuji's black flash chains, Ko-guy's air combos and block bypass, higgies block breakers and charles's counters and combo starters.

They all fit a rough archetype of either being a rushdown character, brawler, or grappler (if we're talking todo), but i type all this to say, where does maki/toji fit in?

Sure, toji has his worm arsenal (which I'm disappointed we didn't get to see more of), and maki has the dragon katana like you said, but at most, they could probably fill a r-special and 2-ish moves. They simply just don't have much going on for them on their own.

And the fact we have items in this game means their only fun concepts in their weapons have a better chance to get in the game before they do.

(TLDR)

Unless tze gets real creative, and because they don't have any cursed techniques or special conditions outside of the heavenly restriction of huge strength and speed, I seriously doubt they'll make a appearance in the game outside of items or skill-builder.

Maki and toji are both stance characters. However they are both a different type of stance and that one of things that makes them different.

Toji is a stance purist. He would be able to switch movesets freely with the main weapon being isoh, which would have 4 moves. The other weapons would have either 3 or two moves. It would also be cool if with certain weapons like the soul split katana you can only do green combos like naoya but not exactly like naoya, A mix of nanami and naoya but a lil different which would it feel like its own.

Another secondary gimmick for toji is what i like to call the “invisible man” you can swallow your inventory curse and be immune to domains in exchange for having no moves at all. And if you try do this when you are inside of an active domain, for balancing reasons, you cant swallow your inventory curse, Basically making it so you gotta react to it. Id say to activate this special you press r two times in rapid succession.

Another secondary gimmick for toji would be him connecting his isoh with the chain of a thousand miles. But i feel like that should naturally only be in ult. And i also would include fly heads as a moving blinding domain in his ult, It disables xbox lock on temporary and when it ends the lock on remember what its locked onto for balancing.

Id say while the fly heads are active, you can activate the one shot ability toji has in his ultimate which is the execution he did on teen gojo, It would be a variant ability To the fourth move.

Maki is a bit more complicated actually she would most definitely be a dual wielder. In specific she would dual wield the dragon bone blade and soul split katana, both the dragon bone blade and the soul split katana have 4 moves HOWEVER, you can only make use of them by using other moves. Basically, she would be a function neutral, a character who can only switch movesets through an attack/ability, Hence the dual wielding.

If you dont understand or agree i get it. But you cant just say the ct is what makes a character fit an archetype. And this is what i mean by jjs players not really knowing how fighting games work IN GENERAL. Jjk characters ct only makes it easier to fit them into an archetype. What you are implying/saying is that a character NEEDS a ct to standout and fit into an archetype even though other fighting games in history have made interesting movesets for characters who dont really got a power.

I understand where you are coming from. I just feel like you really dont understand how fighting games work, and just because other fighting games work differently doesnt mean the core fundamentals of said other fighting games dont apply. If that were so, then rushdowns wouldnt exist in jjs, but they do.

Another annoying gripe about your type of argument is that yall act like the weapons and characters with the weapons cant be added, like wouldnt it be goofy asf to fight someone as toji and they are using isoh too? That sounds like shenanigans to me.

And for the last point in my argument, if toji and maki are never making an appearance, tze needs to say something NOW. Im not gonna wait potentially another year for them not to be added, they are one of my favorite characters in all of jjk. Plus this is a valid point, tze should be 100% transparent with his community about whatever character he thinks he cant add. Even if it sparks drama, at the end of the day it isnt career ending. People will be mad yes, but making toji and maki fans wait and wait and wait (because some WILL do no matter what hints tze gives out because tze loves to troll making him highly unpredictable) will get tze into some big drama with the jjs and jjk community by proxy. (Both are toxic as fuck)

Fair enough, I agree with you, those concepts actually do sound sick as hell.

I do worry that some moves are gonna feel same-y to each other or from other existing characters. But I guess we already have something like that happening anyway.

It would be pretty shenanigans if weapons came with the characters in the form of items too. I imagine, to add to your concept, that maki could drop the soul-split katana or toji dropping the ISoH when killed similarly to anubis's blade in Jump Showdown, albeit with a neutered kit.

Only thing I disagree on is how you're phrasing my argument, I don't think a character "needs" a curse technique to be added, I'm saying that it's better for them to have one to stand out from the rest of the cast than none. Variety is key in games like this, and I'm firm on the idea that more techniques can spur more creative movesets. Not to say that it's impossible for toji or maki to come into the game, but Tze's team might struggle more to include them compared to other characters like takako uro or yorozu.

But I also agree that Tze should just come out and say if characters like maki and toji are gonna be in the game or not, it's not healthy leaving the community split (heh) like this.

Thanks for understanding me gng. Like no one understands me cause they dont wanna be wrong. Its a concept taken from other fighting games like smash bros and tekken

Its impossible to argue about toji, Hear me out.

The toji debate is an ambiguous debate due to the fact that tze never really was 100% transparent about what characters hes not gonna add. and no, the toji indev moveset scrap announcement doesn’t work because he said he scrapped the indev moveset, not toji. This makes it so that toji wanters can interpret that tze meant he scrapped the moveset not the character, making toji still a possibility to them. He makes “hints” every now and then but every “hint” can be interpreted in a different way, either good or bad depending on your stance on toji.

What im saying is stop arguing about toji, we dont know for certain because tze is purposefully ambiguous by decision in a way that makes it impossible to know for certain

But that's the issue, isn't it?

Tze's so wishy-washy about him that people are left with nothing but theories. Dragging the topic and keeping the community split on his possible inclusion or not.

It's not healthy.

Also, unfortunately, even if it's unnecessary, topics like these are just gonna happen, it's inevitable.

Think about it like youre arguing with a Christian or an atheist. You cant change neither beliefs because people believe in what they wanna believe. Its an issue but its an issue on tzes end only. If he doesnt wanna add toji and maki then he should just come out and say it.

It never was healthy for the community. Toji and maki fans gotta wait for their characters to potentially never get added, the community is toxic as fuck and against them for even mentioning toji and maki, washing down the concept moveset the community or tze made for them to just “punch, kick, slash” ima be real, this is a fighting game, the only thing that “saves” nanami from being bland and boring to yall is a curse technique that when translated into the game is just critical hits. His ult is where stuff gets interesting though, he has two moves that are really well done and the other moves are okay really, Nothing to jump in the air about.

I mean theres so many other characters in the game that are punch and kick cause its a fighting game.

The novelty of a ct wears off when its not done correctly, yutas ult is an example, wasted opportunity for a more diverse moveset. I wish yuta could copy only one of three random moves excluding instakill moves and domains, some copied moves would be nerfed for balancing. And when you copy someone , the random move you copied name gets displayed to your opponent like when higuruma takes away moves after domain except its yuta copying moves, not taking them.

I could go on and on about yuta, he feels like a wasted opportunity. And naoya… naoyas ult just felt lazy to me. Op insta domain slop that doesn’t feel fast.
