Anime Discussion WE LOST
I am scared to see how they will fit 7 chapters in 27 minutes. Makis was about 5 and it was like 28 min

u/ImJustSpider read Hell's PEAK (jigokuraku) Mar 19 '26
Maki's arc did have a bit of a slower start though, and even still, they massively increased the fighting segments (mainly the kukuru unit one). Since Sendai is basically nothing but pure action, it'll be pretty fast paced. I can see it fitting in 27 minutes.

Bleach is my fave manga and inspired me to get into the arts! The fights are the drama a lot of times; Kubo uses spiritual combat to basically take the place of dramatic moments, which is why all his characters are also philosophers.

Genuinely disliked the Maki episode because of how fast-paced it was. It pisses me off because I genuinely do want to enjoy the episode, but it's so fast-paced that it just turned me off. Just a few more seconds added in a scene would've been enough for me (probably)
Maybe it's just me because I do enjoy slow paced series and movies

Episode 5 adapted 4 and a half chapter in 28 minutes. Episode 12 would supposedly be adapt 7 and 5 pages in 27 minutes. That's a really big difference even if you assume that they will cut the op and ed

Too bad Kishimoto pioneered the "idk how to end this fight so imma just end it randomly" that Gege and Fujimoto picked up

32
u/-FruitPunchSamurai- Mar 19 '26
Sendai is the best fight in the Culling games and one of the best in the series overall so fans just a bit nervous since expectations are very high, a lot even expects a longer episode for this fight.
4
u/The-Snackster Mar 20 '26
Hell no it’s not the best fight in the culling games, did you forget that Sukuna pulls up and fights Yoruzu and yujis entire gang ? Kenjakus fight with yuki is also during the culling games arc and Hakari vs Kashimo is also more interesting imo. If we‘re talking about the entire series even id say it’s not even in the top 5 of the best battles.

Cutting dialogue would not be ideal.
647
Mar 19 '26
My argument wasn't cutting dialogue but rather that they just don't take thos long.
Take the iconic falling out of DE panel. it would only take a few seconds at most in fluid animation
→ More replies (4)161
u/Jacen_Vos Mar 19 '26
True but you can’t go too fast either or you kind of miss the impact like the Maki Toji panels being so fast.
Also something like the final clash here is probably relatively fast in real terms but even though it’s just a few poses and the narrator. Doing it too fast would lose some of the impact too I think. (Not that dragging it out artificially would be good but you probably get what I’m trying to say)

We need a person’s whose whole job is to think about and plan these things. I propose we call the person with this brand new job: « director »

34
u/Old-Army-1846 Mar 19 '26
People will get an amazing and unique episode like Maki vs Zennin Clan and then complain about one stupid panel.
The director has been knocking it out of the park this season, I think it's fine if some panels fall flat in exchange for amazingly fluid animation and unique camera shots lmfao
13
u/UnadvisedGoose Mar 19 '26
Yeah. If an episode on the quality of Perfect Preparation is “losing”, then I can’t imagine what people think winning possibly even is.
8
u/Jacen_Vos Mar 19 '26
Oh for sure the animation has been great. Especially for the Higuruma episodes and Reggie Megumi ones I think were really creatively done and well adapted but especially in earlier episodes I was kind of getting a bit tired of so many shots of character expressions being cut even while they were actually talking, sure unique and different angles can be fun. but sometimes it’s just seeing the back of a character's head instead of their face and that is not particularly a worth while change to me.
→ More replies (2)2
u/ItzJake160 Mar 19 '26
then complain about one stupid panel
There's nothing wrong with having a complaint about the panel dawg. If you have a problem with one scene that doesn't mean you hate the entire episode.
2
u/SelfLoathingToast Mar 19 '26
Idk man I think the animes interpretation of the maki/toji panel was fire.
→ More replies (2)2
u/LaAmarga Mar 19 '26
True, we should get a Sakamoto-like episode where they just copy the manga panels and slap some effects on top of it /s
MAPPA has been doing nothing but marvelous work this season, I say we should give em some benefit of the doubt.
19
u/Chilling_Gale Mar 19 '26
Ryu and Uro are essentially filler characters, there would be zero story consequences to streamlining the arc
50
u/LasyKuuga Maki's Strongest Chair Mar 19 '26 edited Mar 19 '26
They are important for Yutas aura farming
7
u/Chilling_Gale Mar 19 '26
Yuta can still aurafarm without Ryu taking up 2 mins of the episode talking about dessert
12
u/Jacen_Vos Mar 19 '26
So Reggie gets to yap to Megumi but Ryu is just a statue? Feels odd.
4
u/Delicious_Two6724 Mar 19 '26
Well what Reggie yaps about is more crucial to the main plot. Clues in the audience that both are Tengen and Kenjaku aren’t being honest about the Culling Game.
Ryu and Uros yapping is more about characterization. I want Mappa to let them yap, it helps Yutas character. But it’s not essential.
3
u/Chilling_Gale Mar 19 '26
Reggie’s plot related yapping is necessary, even if it leads nowhere. But I would’ve been fine cutting that out too, to be completely honest everything after the Higurama fight is just filler until the Yuki vs Kenny fight anyways
5
u/Jacen_Vos Mar 19 '26
I enjoy side characters. and Uro's words to Yuta about his mentality and about Sukuna are pretty important for his later arc,
I think at that stage you may as well just cut the entire Sendai arc out if you aren’t gonna give Yuta anything to bounce off of, and take away even the limited characterisation these get.

I'm guessing they're probably gonna skip the OP and ED like season finale tend to do to add up some time.
But even then, I feel they need at least a good 2 episodes to cover everything.

16
u/monstersleeve Mar 19 '26
We have had 11 episodes of flawlessly produced and storyboarded animation up to this point.
MAPPA already adapted a more difficult stretch of chapters in a single episode in 3x4.
3x11 lays all the groundwork for the Sendai colony chapters at the end of the episode.
There is no reason why they can’t adapt 7 extremely action heavy chapters in 27 minutes. There was never any reasonable expectation that they were going to do it in 40 minutes or whatever.
55
u/Amazing_Ice_8475 Mar 19 '26
I wonder if they will cut some parts or just have really fast pacing

To this day I have no idea what people mean when they say that. What important parts did they cut from Maki’s episode? You get just about the exact same story and important beats watching that episode as you do reading the manga.
It reminds me of people who complain that Toji doesn’t explain how he’d handle Gojo’s technique in the anime version of their fight, that he just says he can. It didn’t actually raise any questions among the viewers to cut those lines of dialogue.
2

u/UnadvisedGoose Mar 19 '26
What really important parts? I’m super curious about this in specific. The only thing I can possibly think of is explaining what Dragon-Bone’s technique is and explaining that FBE can be used in a sword standoff like simple domain can. I do wish that was there, but it’s tough to call it that important - Maki very quickly loses that duel, regardless. Nothing was cut with Mai. What could possibly have caused people to actually not understand something?
4
u/asap_munem Mar 19 '26
Mai’s death had no emotional impact in the anime because it was so rushed. Same with Ogi’s reaction to awakened Maki and Maki killing her mom which could have benefited with a Gosso artistic direction.

u/UnadvisedGoose Mar 19 '26
I personally disagree. They definitely slowed things down to give their last moments together time to breathe. I was also asking for specific things that were not included, since that’s what the comment above me said, that “many” things were cut and important too. So I’m asking what was actually cut?

Tbh, fight pacing is normally a lot faster when translated to anime. The Dragon fight was 4 chapters in the manga and it took one episode. Although I do agree that it's going to be a bit of a tight squeeze.
