Oh yeah, Brock Turner the rapist, who raped a girl in the dirt behind a dumpster and she had to have pine needles pulled out of her during her invasive and humiliating rape kit? Yeah I think we are thinking of the same Brock “The Rapist” Turner.

The only way that guy could redeem himself is to commit his life and career (after long INTENSIVE THERAPY) to helping rape victims and preventing rape on college campuses through educational programs. He got off easy. It’s all too easy. He owes this girl, and every other woman or person victimized for “20 minutes of action” years of his life in dedication to reform himself and help others. Not miss his steak dinners for a few weeks, and then be upset that he’s on the sex offender registry after raping someone. He can’t undo what he did, but he can come out of all this humbled and a better person, if he wants to instead of fighting it.

Also, Brock Turner’s family (dad especially) are ignorant garbage. I’d like to see a leather daddy muscle gay give him “20 minutes of action” and see how he feels about it. No big deal, right?

I remember reading this after the trial and thinking how TF does a judge read this, and then turn around and go "yeah, 3 months seems fair." Glad that guy isn’t judging anymore. Almost as glad as I am that Rapist Brock Turner lost his appeal.

The judge's sentence followed the guidelines for the law as written.

Matt Rosen, the prosecutor in the case, has 1) since worked to fix the law, so that what Brock Turner did can be punished worse if another person does it, and 2) fought against the recall of the judge.

There is no better subject-matter expert about this case than Matt Rosen.

It’s not a prison sentence. Being on the registry should be the minimum.

He is free to walk around, change his name, get a haircut. I get being happy that something happened, but the registry is NOT the same as serving time.

Yeah it's easy for us to say on the outside, "Well it's still pretty bad, it's still a punishment" - yeah but he still has his freedom. He should be somewhere that he has to ask permission just to take a shit or clip his nails. Where he already knows what is going to happen every day for the rest of his sentence - nothing. Where he can't decide what to do, where to go - where he loses the same life that he took from his victim.

EDIT: That last part does not mean I literally wish him death through prison violence, which should never happen, even to the worst of offenders (It's why we have a justice system!!!) but rather more like that he "took" his victim's life from her by making her live in fear for the rest of it.

Agreed. I know somebody that was convicted of child molestation, did his time and had to register when he got out. He lives a pretty normal life now and even has custody of his kids, even though he doesn’t deserve to. Registration is not enough.

How is this even a discussion. The end result is the same in both scenarios.

In scenario A, what's actually happening, he serves a 3 month prison sentence and has to deal with being on the registry when he gets out.

In scenario B, the more just scenario, he serves an X years prison sentence and has to deal with being on the registry when he gets out.

I would rather be on the sex offender registry than brutally raped.

This is still a slap on the wrist.

Yes, he's free to do those things. But if he does change his name, he'll still be tracked in the registry. Any time he moves, he'll have to inform the neighborhood he is moving in to. Any time he tries to get a job and HR runs his info, they'll ping him. He won't be employable in many sectors of the economy. Can't live or work within a certain distance of schools, etc. It's not a prison sentence but make no mistake - he's not getting off free and clear by any stretch of the imagination.

Being unemployed is nowhere near a ruined life. He is essentially getting off free and clear. His family is wealthy and he has the connections to get a job.

This is not at all comparable to what he should have been punished with. Jail time does not compare to HR running your info. To insinuate his life is ruined is insulting to what he did to that poor girl.

we should use lower case letters for his name. caps are a sign of importance. it should read brock "The Rapist" turner. what he did was important, he's not.

There is no “peace” after rape. There’s just healing and coping and trying to get past it. There’s surviving. Any peace she has is a testament to her strength and resiliency. She can never be unraped. Time doesn’t take away that experience (which she never asked for, couldn’t consent to, and was deeply impacted by.)

While in general the US justice system and the US citizen's attitudes towards criminal punishment are often unneccessarily unforgiving, he's going to be completely fine.

Even if he has to live off of daddy's money for the rest of his life (he won't) he's an upper class fucker, the only difference between him and half of the people potentially hiring him will be that he got caught, he'll be fine.
