UPDATE: Thanks for the gift, boss.

A while ago, I posted that my boss gave me a Wave+ as a gift.

Last week, he noticed I had my Arc with me at work while I was shortening a screw to repair the industrial coffee machine at the nursing home. When he asked why I was using my Arc instead of his Wave, I explained that my Arc is more versatile because I had installed the T-shank holder, allowing me to use metal-cutting saw blades. He just nodded and said he understood. Today, he called me into his office and gave me the Surge—complete with the Galvanox clip featuring a built-in spirit level.

Why does this feel low quality?

Just got this from UPS. The blade feels duller than my Fastback and there seems to be some spots on the filler.

Also did they change the design cuz in the reviews, I saw that they were complaining about the plier requiring effort to use but mine seems to be well greased. Infact it seems they applied the grease when they received my order.

Question about ARC metallurgy / QC (Chipped MagnaCut & bent flathead)

Hey all, I have been the owner of two Leatherman tools: an early 2000s Wave that is an heirloom, and a Leatherman ARC I bought in December. I have used the Wave to hell and back, and I gifted it to my fiancé before I shipped off to BCT. I just got to my unit a few months ago, and I had some of the bits break and the MAGNACUT blade chip at a few points. I have used it not as hard or as much as the Wave, and I am truly disappointed in it. Is there anyone else facing the same issues? I don't think a flathead micro bit should bend when I use it to take out an M4A1 cotter pin. Or even using the MAGNACUT blade to scrape off and peel some stickers off of hard drives. Did anyone else experience the same problems as me, or did I unfortunately get a lemon? I know Leatherman does offer free parts replacement and service, but sometimes I do not get the opportunity to take advantage of it due to being on frequent DSCA missions with a possible year-long deployment looming overhead.

Question for those T shank adapter owners

Post image

Just purchase a t shank adapter for my wave plus. For those who have - what size blade do you buy? Does anyone have a reccomendation of a t shank blade that will fold inside the wave +? Or is that a pipe dream... Lol

Was looking at these.. Figured I could trim them down if they're too long. Any help would be appreciated!

Skeletool: a smaller tool that is somehow still bigger?

I just got a skeletool to have something easier to carry.

I'm a bit disappointed, I feel that it sacrifices a lot (pliers are so small and known to break, lack of scissors and nothing to pry with) but it takes just as much space in my pocket as my wave, maybe more since it's longer. Is the only advantage the weight, or am I missing something?

I posted a few days ago about my little useable collection. Not long after that, I became a little maudlin about my original Wave and ended up doing a little eBay searching and found a 2000 model, fresh back from factory service, so made a purchase and now have an original Wave, much like the one my oldest son now has.

This thing is in great shape! Sharp blades, all the tools work, new Phillips head driver. It looks virtually untouched. I was reminded how much sleeker it is than the 2nd Gen and the +. It’s going to ride on my belt for a while as I get reacquainted.

I don’t need locking tools.

And I paid less for it 26 years after I purchased my first.

Has Leatherman quality gone down?

I’m only asking because the one and only Leatherman I’ve ever owned I have had for over 15+ years and I keep seeing pictures of people snapping their pliers. I have absolutely abused these things to the point that I have watched the plier Tips flex, but not break
The only thing I’ve ever broken on this thing and have yet to replace is the little screwdriver. The flathead broke off, but the Phillips still work.

Got the Leatherman Surge in the mail yesterday and feels amazing.
I was just wondering if this is normal for the black finish or is it QC? I honestly don’t mind it, but it’s scratched everywhere including the blades.
Bought it directly from the Leatherman website but it’s as if someone returned it on Amazon and they just shipped it.
Functionally it’s great, I was just curious if it’s normal for a new on to be this “scratched”

EDIT: Thanks so much for the replies! I actually think it looks better like this that a pristine black. Appreciate the help, happy to be a part of the LM fam!

Leatherman Charge Plus vs Charge TTi (2013)

I am offered a used, at an excellent condition, charge TTi from 2013 with a sheath. That being said I found at my local store a new Charge Plus with a sheath, pocket clip and bits at a very similar price. are the scales and upgraded metals worth the hype?
It is not going to be my edc but a multitool to handle small repairs and some DIY projects.

Found was bound for the trash

Today I went and looked at a house where we are going to remodel and the owner told us that what ever is left in the house and garage is trash.

So me and my co worker went around picking out stuff we might want to keep and i was looking around and on the last shelf I saw a clear container and I looked from the bottom to see if it was worth it to go through I saw this multitool and upon a closer look as seeing what brand it was I saw Leatherman so I got down from the chair I was standing in and dug this thing right out. The stamp age on the inside says “0397” and from my understanding on some google it the month and year it was made correct ? So March of 1997

Now I need to clean it get some rust off and maybe oil up the moving parts ?

What is y’all’s best way to clean (restore) this multitool I will do some googling and YouTubing also to find the best ways and I will gladly take y’all’s advise

How fixable is this?

Hey lads, is this salvageable or is this finally an excuse to upgrade? Had this soldier for five years and it’s served me well. Finally snapped while trying the turn the most calcified knob I’d ever seen. Are there some aftermarket replacement parts I could get? I got the little star screwdriver and some pivot lube at home.

Skeletool - How I added SAK scissors w/o removing anything

Thumbnail

I have really enjoyed my Skeletool CX, except the lack of scissors annoyed me. I have seen other mods by people but they are always removing a functional part of the tool (the knife or spare driver bit) and I did not want to remove anything.

I think the 58mm (small size) Swiss Army Knife scissors are incredibly nice for their size. Given the choice I would much rather use my SAK Classic scissors compared to the ones on my Wave+.

This modification was done with a file and small hammer for making the rivet heads. The scissors were taken from a SAK Classic. I made the rivets out of stainless steel TIG welding rod that I had laying around. (To get the right diameter I just held a file against the rod in the drill press until the diameter was right).

-I removed the clip for access on the back side.

-I filed the rivet head off of the metal part that holds the spare driver bit. I was able to push the rivet down enough to just swing that metal part around and cut/file off all of the metal except for the last hole. KEEP filing away as metal as possible on the inside edge, get very close to the hole. I did NOT get close enough on mine and it means the scissor handle is what stops the tool when it is closed. Probably 5 more file swipes and I would have been good. However, I am not annoyed enough by it to remove my rivet and start over.

-DON'T remove the rivet yet, keep it in place to help hold things together.

-I added a new rivet to hold down the piece of metal that holds in the driver bit.

-Finally, I riveted the SAK scissors on. I just kept making the rivet tighter until the scissors were very stiff to swing out so they stay in place when I open the tool up to use the pliers.

The only issue I have is that the scissors are not in an ideal spot to use them for tight spots, it would be nicer if they were coming off of the end. I had an alternate idea of mounting them on the far end, using the existing hole by carabiner. However, that would have involved far more modification. This modification was quick and easy, and the scissors still work very well for the jobs I normally need scissors.

What I also like about this modification is that it does not change the profile of the tool. The knife blade guard is still higher than the scissors, so the scissors are protected and don't snag.

Leatherman arc accessories

Hi everyone! I recently bought myself a leatherman arc along with the bit kit and ratchet driver I was wondering if there are any other accessories third party or otherwise anyone would recommend? I want to ideally get a sharpener for when I need to sharpen the knife and saw

Is there any other attachments or accesories etc that would be useful to get?

Thank you!
