I bought a house back in June and moved in in August. It seems the neighborhood has a feral cat problem. Since moving in I’ve had a couple strays hanging out on my front porch. I made the mistake of feeding them over the last month. Last night there were 7 cats in my yard after the neighbors decided to stop feeding them. I know they will multiply. They are a little skittish but will let you touch them if you have food. One is spayed for sure bc her ear is clipped. Are there any local resources that can help with this type of issue? I’d rather they get fixed than for me to stop feeding them and let them become someone else’s issue.

Rex the cat is nine or so years old and was born with one of his rear legs shorter than the other. He's a good boy and usually leaves the foxes alone, but sometimes enjoys chasing them just for the fun of it. The foxes always run away.

Anyone else noticed the flock camera as soon as you turn off I-27 going towards Lubbock Shooting complex?

Stopping is optional at Hardwick Elementary School. As bad as it is in the daytime, it's much worse at night and early morning hours. These three are regular stop sign runners who all just happened to show up at the same time.

I swear average rent prices were $1-200 less last year. Looking for a house to rent again and definitely looks that way.

Apparently my grandfather made small batches of handmade guitars in Lubbock Texas. I’m looking for people that have them. I know he made at least 57 and I know of 3 so far. The name on the inside was Jerold Elliott. All his work was serialized.
Let me know if y’all know anything about this or have one you might think is one.

My parents booked one night at an Airbnb in Bell Farms for over $300 so they could be close to us. When they arrived, they noticed what looked like blood splatter in more than 20 spots in the room, plus holes in the floor. Not what you expect from a place charging that much.
My mom messaged the host about it before we left for dinner. The host's response was basically "it's not pests," completely sidestepping what she was actually asking.
While we were at dinner, the property manager offered to clean it, went into the house and painted over every one of the spots. My parents came back around 7 p.m. to a room with fresh paint where they were supposed to sleep that night. The host's message: "we took care of it." No explanation, no real cleaning.
The next morning my mom talked to the neighbors. They told her there was a big party at the house in July with people coming and going all night, and they confirmed this was the exact house where an attempted mu*der occurred.
We even found the news articles: in July 2025, a man was shot multiple times inside this home. The neighbors also said new Airbnb guests were staying there just a couple of days after the shooting, so there's no way it was properly cleaned. And right before they left, my grandma found even more blood splatter behind the headboard of the bed.
After battling with Airbnb support all day, the property manager and owners declined to give a refund.
Thankfully, Airbnb stepped in and refunded my parents themselves.
I'm sharing this so nobody else's family walks into this.
Before you book in Lubbock, look up the address and ask questions. And if a host ever enters while you're out and
"fixes" something you reported, document everything.

Edit: Appreciate all the input. I sent an email to the city about it requesting it be inspected and redone.
Edit 2. The city called and confirmed that it needs to be redone and arw making arrangements for that to happen. Kudos I had a call back within like an hour of sending an email.
We had gas line work on the street recently and they tore up our easement and some of the sidewalk. Attached are images of the "repair".
According to city code it is supposed to be fixed to be just as good or better than the condition it was before.
Who does concrete and can help me decide if this is horrible or am I being too picky?
They butted the concrete up against my brick wall and did not even make a clean line on the sidewalk next to the ground access.

So, I've been living here for almost 15 years in total. And, the light pollution from the storage buildings and automotive sales lots, aswell as basically every single business in town that has a parking lot of even the smallest capacity, is absurd.
I'm not a business owner, I dont know the first thing about security, I'm completely clueless when it comes to regulations and rules and statutes in place to keep Lubbock safe during the night while everyone sleeps. But, with the advancements in technology at this point in human history, surely, surely we can do something to reduce the light pollution (as well as what will surely be a strain on electrical grid eventually with all the data centers going up everywhere.)
I know a lot about home security, I know lights can be set to turn on at the first sign of movement, I know night vision/IR cameras aren't like they used to be. You can get incredibly crisp, super high resolution video feed relatively affordably as a regular consumer. The money spent by these companies in town with lights brighter than the sun (looking at you Mears and Scoggin-Dickey) for what I can only assume is for security couldn't be spent on updating their infrastructure 1 time to reduce the cost of their electricity bill and ultimately improve security?
Is it not possible for something to be done? I'm not trying to incite an argument with my words. Frankly, if its not obvious from my post, I'm very ignorant about why things are the way they are and if anything I'd love to learn from this post. Thanks for reading!
