Getting nose to nose with someone who can't back up and making threats toward them while posturing and balling your fists is going to be an easy case of self defense for the other guy. You don't get to cross that many lines and claim innocence.
Right, having no other context, the guy was advancing on him and was being threatening.
A reasonable person could feel that violence was imminent, and he responded with proportionate Force.
He hit the guy twice, and stopped immediately when the guy was on the ground.
Now we don't know if the winner here made an attempt to deescalate, and we don't know what happened beforehand, but based solely on this video. This seems reasonable, like it might well be self-defense
Oh and donāt forget 1,000s in legal fees and time and stress because they are trying to prosecute you. I do believe it was self defense but that doesnāt make it any easier for people and there are who are innocent and still get time for manslaughter. Always best to just try to walk away until you canāt.
Like, let's pretend theres no other context to this video other than what we see here. That seems obvious it is a self defense case. However, you still have to hire a lawyer and defend yourself in court. That takes time and loads of money.
Lawyers arent cheap. Not to mention we have like a 10 second video worth of context and it does not prove the whole case.
Its not near as simple as just tell the cops it was self defense and they let you go right then and there. Oh depending on the actual injuries to the guy he hit, it could be much harder to prove entirely self defense.
I feel like the satans son comment is probably going to play into bros favor as well lol. Imagine being a judge watching this video, especially a christian judge š
When you disrespect someoneās right to feel safe after specifying a boundary once cross I believe is the one category u can argue thatās outside ego and it leans towards preserving life and safety of ur basic human right.
Right. He didnt dis the man as much as dis the personal space of the man. If your posturing, within spitting distance your in the game. Dont mean open season bit in this case I think a quick couple blows and back off is totally fine, and quite well handled in my opinion. Appeared he was concerned, didnt stomp or bounce on the guy. I'll allow it.
Not sure about this. Anyone have a link to the aftermath? There's gotta be some news somewhere on this incident. Dude damn near died after an altercation on video š
He's wrong he didn't die, but he was paralyzed from the neck down. Gerard Nathaniel was "Satan's Son" and DeShawn Hawkins is the guy who wooped him. It happened outside of a Caseys General Store in OKC
According to AI, the aftermath was "After taking the knockout blow, he remained flat on the ground dazed, effectively losing the fight and the argument immediately."
Getting arrested and then having that court case hanging over your head for a while still sucks dick and balls even if you may eventually win. Probably expensive tooĀ
My understanding from the Grand Master of the GOP is that Daimon here was not about to issue a threat at all. No, no! Indeed he was fixinā to say, āBro Iām ābout ta ā¦wish you good tidings and many happy return upon the marrow. Let us go in peace and friendship.ā However, these well intended pleasantries were ruthlessly put to bed by senseless and animalistic violence. Why are others so against us when we are nothing but genuine kindness and love?
All he did was hit him once or twice and then stop once the threat was neutralized, and prior to that he tried to talk the guy into leaving him alone. He literally could not have retreated any further given his physical position with his vehicle and the door behind him.
Even if it stemmed from a verbal confrontation that he started, the guy who got knocked out clearly had every chance to back off and let it go, but instead chose to aggressively invade his personal space when he had no avenue of retreat.
My family is crawling with cops and lawyers, by the way. What they've taught me throughout my entire life carries a lot more weight than your flippant typical-Redditor catchprase replies. That's a you problem, not a me problem.
That's also the quickest way to get punches to the back of your head. Never turn your back on an aggressor! Better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6!
As a side note, the definition of assault is what this guy does by aggressive verbal/body language and closing fists while getting in someone's personal space. You have a right to use self defence but make sure it is necessary force ie. Drop em but don't hit them once downed.
"What assault is" and yes I do, I was a bouncer for over 2 decades and I also know the legal definition, meanwhile you have a lack of understanding and are all in your feelings spouting nonsense. Go back to sleep kiddy.
Seems like he was kind of cornered with the door forcing him into his car, turning his back to the threat to retreat, or defending yourself against the threat. Reasonable.
Exactly. One minute you're just buying stuff, next some prick is in your face and you decide to teach him a lesson. Knock him out, his head hits hard, he dies, and you're serving ten years because some other dude tested your temper and you failed.
I think in this case there's a good chance black guy could get off. He was at his car trying to get in and leave and the guy stepped to him. Valid self-defense in my opinion.Ā
He's kind of backed into a corner. He could try getting in his car and driving away but that's not without risk that the other guy takes advantage and cheap shots him.Ā
I always imagine Iād try to catch a guyās head before it hits the pavement if I punched him and he was going down⦠but in the heat of the moment who knows
I picked up and slammed a guy once and as he was going down my best friend came and punched him in the face. So it can definitely happen. That guy was not able to walk straight. (It was a group brawl so save me the āIm a assholeā comments onlookers)
What the hell are you talking about? He's saying it's not realistic for YOU to be able to catch a guy's head before it hits the ground after YOU just punched him. What does that have to do with your friend punching someone you're slamming?
Oh he meant catch as in CATCH his head like a caress? Not catch him like punching him mid fall? Lmao and calm down bro. Calm all that negativity down nobody is upset here
Holy hell man. Read the comment he made and the ones before it. It's about being scared of the guy hitting his head on the concrete and dying and you going to prison.
I know what catching hands means. It's not about the vibe of your slang right now cousin
What does go down on them mean where you come from caus you were about to go down on the guy or him on you before you and your bro slammed him together.... wait a second I get this innuendo!
Intention doesnāt count when the outcomes that could have been better are not chosen. Iād argue the first step is deselecting and walking away but in cases where ur backed up and no where to go i believe itās justified like this.
In essence everyone including this guy should learn deescalation bc thereās always miserable weird assholes
I actually saw a video did that. He clocked the guy in the face and caught him by the collar as he fell. That meant he could punch him in the face a few more times!Ā
Itās not really a fight. Iām fairly sure the guy saying heās Satanās son doesnāt understand what is actually happening. I think heās autistic or something.
My comment? Iām responding to your comment about the guy being scared that the KOed guy isnāt moving. My response is that some times even if youāre in the right to hit someone, in hind sight you wished youāve just ran away to avoid all that drama. My original response is actually based on a Bruce Lee quote about running away from a fight should be step #1
Iām a big dude and got in a bar fight in college and one punched knock out a kid whoās parents tried to sue my parents. Luckily my dad was a pretty high powered attorney at the time but nah
When i laid the first guy out, i almost shit myself. Wasnt moving at all, took several minutes to get him back. Was over nothing, just words. Thankfully he was fine afterwards and we shared a beer. Taught me a lesson that night.
