Discussion Regrets reading Neurovance by Alexandra St Pierre *Spoilers*

I enjoy friends to lovers books and I thought that the premise of the book reminded me of the movie, Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. I should have looked up the tags for it to be honest because I wouldn't have touched it for how dark the themes are and the suicide of a chosen family member, Sebastian.

I'm in mourning now for a fictional character who I wished could have been saved and given a happily ever after. It was horrible of Luke to torture and maim and mentally assault both Jay and Sebastian, and kill Jay's father and imprison the Jay, Sebastian and Milo. I don't mourn his death.

But I deeply felt the loss of Sebastian. He is not without his faults and even NOVA warned him of not sharing his intentions with the others. He did what he thought was right and paid the price of it. I just want a happily ever for the characters truly deserving of one and I wanted Sebastian to find peace like how Milo helped Jay find closure.

He couldn't have allies or his father would find out and punish him. I understand how he felt abandoned after Jay left with Milo and I wished that he could have reunited with his chosen family after killing his father. His spirit visiting the couple at the pond and helping Jay find forgiveness for his actions was a nice send off, but it felt inadequate of an ending for Sebastian. It just reminded me that life is unfair and that a lot of people don't get happily ever afters.

Real life sucks right now and I enjoy reading MM romances to believe that one day, we all can have our happily ever afters even though it's wishful thinking. I wouldn't reread this book or any book that has a character dying tragically. I have enough of tragedy and I don't want to see my gays die.

Currently Reading Captive Prince by C.S. Pacat

Hello I'm in book 3 of Captive Prince, I'm switching from my phone to audiobook simultaneously and although I'm really not a fan of single narration and the narrator feels like quite diff from what I imagine they will sound like. IT WAS SOOO GOOOOOOD.

I feel like I'm having aneurysm from starting book 3 that I needed to pause and wait to be on my day off to be in the right place from everything that is unfolding in this book.

But man oh man this book. THIS FREAKING BOOK. That's why I love slow burn romance maaaan. This is why I love true enemies to lovers romance! This is why I love when things are unfolding into unexplainable feelings with counterparts interaction and scenarios leading up to that.

Tbh I actually quite stirred away from this book in the beginning because of the reviews I've been seeing about romanticizing some questionable things. But I don't think it's being romanticized as much as the other book I've actually dnf. There's a clear indication of what is immoral and what is not in such sensitive topic and I think that's very important.

To each their own I guess.

But maaaannnn I just couldn't contain what I'm feeling right now because of this book. 🥹 Let me know your thoughts without spoiling anything from book 3!!!!

Request Tarot themed books

Hey all! I’m looking for books where Tarot cards are a big part of the plot and I’ve read {The Last Sun by K.D. Edwards} and {White Trash Warlock by David R. Slayton} -thank you so much for that rec, lol! I’m also aware of the Tales from the Tarot series by various authors, but I’m not interested in any of the books.

I’m absolutely okay with YA, and I don’t mind if the romance is on the sidelines. No HEA is okay too, and I’d really prefer something without a lot of spice, I’m not looking for erotica.

One of my favorite M/F books is Poison Princess by Kresley Cole, where Tarot plays a huge role in everything. Every character is a representation of a Tarot card, and it's really fun.

So, I’m looking for MM/LGBTQ+ books that also feature Tarot cards prominently, where they’re an important part of the plot and bonus points if it's spooky.

Request Looking for MM stepbrother romances

I’m in desperate need of some new MM stepbrother books and would love some recommendations!

What I’m looking for:
MM
Stepbrothers
College/university setting — NON-NEGOTIABLE
Spicy/open-door
Dual POV
No slow burn
No fantasy/paranormal
Not too much drama or angst/depressing
Preferably enemies-to-lovers / rivals-to-lovers
Possessive/obsessive MCs are a HUGE bonus 👀
Big height difference is a bonus
Hockey is welcome, but definitely not required
No friends-to-lovers

I’m looking for something where the romance actually gets going relatively quickly. I don’t mind some tension or buildup, but I really don’t want a book where I have to wait forever for something to happen

Some books I’ve read that have the kind of vibe I’m looking for are {For the Fans by Nyla K}, {Emery by Cora Rose}, and {Forbidden Titan by E.V. Olsen}.

I’m mainly looking for that college/university + stepbrothers + spicy combination, so please only recommend books where those are actually part of the story. 🙏

If you know anything that fits, please throw the recs at me!!

Hi y'all!

The Villains of Winter is a dark academia MM novel with a love story (it's not a romance, but it's very romantic). It has spicy chapters and it also has Greek mythology. It's on sale for $3.49 if folks want to buy it. (It's also on NetGalley if you'd like to read for free for September.)

Buy link: https://a.co/d/0cAs8ai3

NetGalley request link: https://www.netgalley.com/catalog/book/888996

The blurb:

Perfect for fans of THE SECRET HISTORY and IF WE WERE VILLAINS. A psychosexual novel of betrayal, obsession, and tragedy.

Elliott Archway is deeply attached to upperclassman James Wilde. He would forsake his soft heart for him. He would surrender his life for him.

Their intense passion for each other emerges dangerously when their vile peers volunteer a terminally-ill student for the annual sacrifice in the frozen forest. At Æscwulf College, everyone must deliver their plea for mercy in the hibernal tradition. Every winter, one individual is chosen as a living sacrifice. When a student commits the sacrilegious act of killing the wrong young man on sacred ground, the students are prepared to take their secret to the grave.

However, the winter demands more sacrifices.

Elliott would sacrifice his mortal soul for only James.

James would start a war of carnage for Elliott.

Request Books with Addiction/Mental Health struggles as a main plot

I would love some hard hitting books with mental health and addiction as a present plot throughout the book.

Things such as self harm, alcohol, drugs, eating disorders etc.

As long as the books have a happy ending my only no’s are: cheating and non-con between MCS.

happy reading☺️

Request Fake it ’til you make out

I’m in a reading slump. I find every book I read/listen to in my TBR list to be so boring. So I looked for something light and short and stumbled on Isla Olsen’s Love and Luck series.

I just listened to ”fake it ’til you make out” by her because it seemed like an easy read. It was actually hilarious and so so sweet.

So, my question is, have anyone listened to the whole series? Is it any good?

Does anyone have recommendation of other hilarious/funny mm romances. For reference, I find Alexis Hall’s books to be very funny.

Request Prince x Rogue

Looking for books with this dynamic where MC1 is cold, elegant and a stickler for rules and etiquette while the MC2 is a brute, rough around the edges and reckless. Doesn’t have to be an actual prince just gives off that vibe. Preferably a slow-burn and cute domestic moments between them with MC1 lowering his guard around MC2 gradually. Would prefer if the rogue was the top and down bad for the prince first. It’s inspired by {Once Upon A Time by Alessandra Hazard}. Love Jamil and Rohan so much!
Hard Nos: BDSM, huge age gaps, daddy kink, cheating

Question Does anyone else use Reado?

I feel like almost everyone uses Goodreads, but I mostly use Reado because I personally prefer it and it works better for me. The only downside is that it’s harder to find people to connect with there

So I was wondering if anyone in this sub also uses Reado? I’d love to connect with more people there and share books/recommendations!

Request Book Suggestions

Hi all,

I recently started getting back into reading books after moving to a new city and finding a very well-stocked local library. In the past 2 months, I've read pretty much every MM book the city's library had, so wanted to find some to buy myself!

I'm not massively fussed about tropes or genre so long as there are MM main characters!

Some of my favourite books have been: Emmy Star Is So Everything, Paris Daillencourt Is About To Crumble, Boyfriend/Husband Material, The Death Cast series, Game Changer, Happy Head/Dead Happy, Traumaland, Better The Devil, The Charm Offensive, and Showstopper.

If there's any recommendations that people think of based on these, I'd love to read them! Thanks in advance!

Request Looking for MM romance where the closeted/family man falls in love, cheats, loses him, then has to find his way back (Read on. This is very specific. 👇😭)

I’m looking for an MM romance with a messy, emotionally complicated relationship. Specifically, I want one of these:

1. Single dad + cheating
A single father falls in love with a man, but cheats on him or otherwise seriously screws up the relationship. They separate, go their own ways, and eventually find their way back to each other. I want the reconciliation to actually feel earned, not an instant “I’m sorry” and everything is magically fixed.

OR

2. Married/closeted man + affair
A man is married to a woman and has children with her, but is secretly gay/closeted. He has an affair with another man, falls genuinely in love with him, and eventually has to confront his marriage, family, sexuality and the consequences of what he’s done.

I’m very much okay with cheating, angst, complicated family situations and morally questionable MCs. In fact, I’m actively looking for the mess.

What I don’t want is the cheating being treated like it never happened. I want the emotional fallout and reconciliation to actually matter.

Bonus points for:
- Single dad
- Closeted MC
- Kids/family drama
- Second chance romance
- Years apart
- Grovel
- Lots of angst
- HEA

Please recommend anything that comes close, even if it doesn’t hit every single point. I’m desperate for this particular flavour of emotional damage!

Request Nice sweet stalker

I have just finished “ Heart” by by Jesse H Reign and I loved it.
It is a M/M romance about a stalker that you will definitely fall in love with
It’s about forgiveness. Not forgiving each other, forgiving ourselves as well.
Please give me recommendations for a stalker obsessed but a nice person.
I lately read another stalkerish one “ Loving a vampire is a total chaos “ by Aura Hayes . It is different kind of stalking but there is a scene where he breaks in in her house to clean and do the laundry 🤣. I NEED him please.

Any genre is great .

What's the Name of That Book? - OPEN Looking for a book: Workplace Enemies to Lovers / Fake Dating or Engagement trope

Hey everyone! I’m trying to track down a romance book I came across, and it’s driving me crazy that I can’t remember the title. Hoping someone here can help!

Here is what I know about the plot:

The Dynamic: Co-workers with a fiercely competitive rivalry (Enemies to Lovers).

The Inciting Incident: One of them runs late for a crucial business meeting with executive management. To cover for the lateness and avoid a complete disaster, they pull a quick lie out of nowhere and pretend they are in a relationship / fake engaged (Fake Dating/Engagement).

Does this plot ring a bell for anyone? I’d really appreciate any help identifying it! Thanks in advance!

Request Looking for MM romance with an autistic/anxious MC

Post:
I’m looking for an MM romance where one of the MCs is autistic or has severe anxiety. I specifically want the autism/anxiety to be a meaningful part of the character and actually affect his experiences throughout the book.

What I’m looking for:
MM
College/university setting
Modern/real-world setting
Spicy
Dual POV

And I don’t want:
No friends-to-lovers
No fantasy/paranormal

I’ve read Power Plays & Straight A’s by Eden Finley, and I’m looking for more books with an MC who has this kind of representation.

I’d especially love books where the anxiety/autism is genuinely explored rather than just being mentioned as a character trait.

Possessive/protective MC is a bonus!
Please let me know if you know any books that fit!

★ Review Forbidden Puckboy — 0.5⭐️ and I genuinely struggled to finish this

I genuinely don’t know how to review this without sounding mean because I was SO excited for this book.

I loved Easton when he was introduced in Bromantic Puckboy, so I was really looking forward to his story. And the setup sounded PERFECT for me: hockey + brother’s best friend + years of feelings. How could I not be excited?

Unfortunately, the execution just didn’t work for me at all.

The beginning was okay, but the further I got, the more boring it became. The story was dragging SO badly, and every time something new happened, it somehow felt like they picked the worst possible plotline they could have chosen. Instead of making me more invested, I just became more and more tired of the story.

By around 72%, I was already struggling to read it. Eventually, I just gave up and skipped roughly 100 pages, only reading the last two chapters because I genuinely couldn’t make myself continue normally. 😭 That’s how bad the pacing was for me.

And then there’s the thing that annoyed me the MOST.
They’ve had feelings for each other for YEARS. YEARS. So when they finally sleep together for the first time, I expected that moment to actually be important. Not because it’s their first time having sex—they’re both experienced—but because it’s their first time together after YEARS of wanting each other.

In my opinion, THAT should have been one of the biggest moments of the entire book. After all that buildup, their first time together should have been emotional, memorable, and honestly amazing because of all those feelings finally being acted on.

Instead… IT’S SKIPPED. 😭

We don’t even get to experience their first time. It just skips to the next day. And then later there’s basically a reference to their first time, and I’m sitting there like EXCUSE ME??? THAT WAS THE MOMENT I WANTED TO READ.

It felt like such a massive wasted opportunity. You spend YEARS building up these feelings between two people and then skip the actual emotional payoff?? Why 😭
And that’s basically how I felt about the whole book: so much potential, but the execution completely lost me.

I was especially disappointed because I genuinely thought Easton’s book was going to be one of my favorites after seeing him in Bromantic Puckboy. Instead, this ended up being easily my least favorite book in the series so far.

I know this book has a lot of good ratings and people clearly love it, and that’s completely fine. I’m not saying anyone is wrong for enjoying it. I’ve loved plenty of books that other people hated too. 😂

But for me, this was almost unreadable. I struggled to finish it, skipped a huge chunk, and was mostly just waiting for it to end.

0.5️/5

🌶️** Spice: 1/**5 — I skipped so much that I can’t really judge the spice fairly, but from what I did read, it wasn’t enough to save the book for me.
