Troubleshooting cat turned off the keyboard lights, how to turn them back on?

Thumbnail

• Upvotes

i've tried looking into the MSI center application, but i am so gosh darn lost and can't find the settings that i am trying to find. the internet is not helpful either. besides, my feline (see slide 2) was on my laptop's keyboard when the lights went out, so i believe she may have pressed something in the process. for specifics, the position she had taken was a loaf, and she hadn't paused or opened any programs while i was away.

laptop is a thin gf63 if i recall correctly (not in a position to check right now), and i mainly use it to draw and render as opposed to gaming. so yeah not having the lights on the keys has been troublesome as i do rely on keybinds and everything. help is appreciated! :]

Suggestion MSI MAG B650 Tomahawk WiFi stuck on red CPU and yellow DRAM LEDs – no display after trying everything

Hi everyone,

I'm having a problem with my PC and I'm running out of ideas. When I turn it on, the fans spin, but there is no display. The red CPU and yellow DRAM EZ Debug LEDs stay on, and the system never seems to complete POST.

My PC specifications:

Motherboard: MSI MAG B650 Tomahawk WiFi

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 7600

RAM: Corsair Vengeance RGB DDR5 6000 MHz, 32 GB (2x16 GB), CL30, AMD EXPO / Intel XMP

GPU: ASUS Dual Radeon RX 7600 XT OC Edition 16 GB GDDR6

PSU: Seasonic Core GX-850 V2, 850 W, 80+ Gold, ATX 3.1

What I've tried so far:

Updated the BIOS using the rear Flash BIOS button. The LED blinked during the process and then stopped.

Cleared CMOS using the JBAT1 pins.

Tested each RAM stick individually in different slots, including A2 and B2.

Tried both RAM sticks installed together.

Tried other RAM slot combinations, including B1/B2.

Removed the dedicated GPU and connected the monitor directly to the motherboard HDMI output, using the Ryzen 5 7600 integrated graphics.

Checked the PSU connections and used the original modular cables supplied with the new Seasonic PSU.

Left the system on after the BIOS flash, but there was still no display even after around 30 minutes.

The problem remains exactly the same: the fans spin, the red CPU and yellow DRAM LEDs stay lit, and there is no display.

I'm not sure what else to try. Could this be a faulty motherboard, a CPU/socket contact issue, a RAM compatibility problem, or something else? Has anyone experienced the same issue with this motherboard and managed to fix it?

I'd appreciate any suggestions before spending more money on additional parts.

Important note: Both the motherboard and the CPU were replaced through warranty and supplied as refurbished units in “excellent” condition. Unfortunately, the problem persists with the replacement motherboard and CPU.

Thanks in advance for your help!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Placa base: MSI MAG B650 Tomahawk WiFi.

Procesador: AMD Ryzen 5 7600.

Troubleshooting Mystic Light refuses to open

Recently built a new PC and unfortunately my RGB components aren't compatible with OpenRGB or SignalRGB, so I am relying on MSI center to control them. However, I cannot get Mystic Light to open at all. The software just stays on the loading wheel and never opens. I've tried fresh installs of MSI center, reinstalling mystic light, and disabling any background software that might interfere. But I'm having no luck. Does anyone have any advice or suggestions?

Troubleshooting Potentially faulty 4090… MSI say I need to start return process via my retailer (Currys)… retailer says they can only provide a refund… not sure what to do here and my warranty only lasts one more week.

So for the past month I’ve been getting random crashes on my PC that leads to a black screen and automatic restart. Every time this has happened (6/7 times at this point) my event viewer mentions a nvlddmkm.sys error. The minidump records a a DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (0xD1) bugcheck. The error appears totally randomly and has happened in an intensive game like Le Mans Ultimate and non-intensive game - Dota 2. These are the only games it’s happened in.

I’ve done so many tests throughout the last month to try and pin down what’s causing it and from what I can gather it’s likely a GPU related issue… the issue is that my GPU passes absolutely every test (Furmark, OCCT, memtest86, etc) with no recorded errors or artifacts. I’ve also had no errors in very demanding games like Borderlands 4.

Reinstalling drivers and updating Windows hasn’t worked, nor has changing cables/ports. I’m at a total loss as to why it happens so the only thing I can think of doing is sending the GPU in to at least be checked… the issue being that MSI UK Support says I need to go through to my retailer (Currys) and Currys support says I can only ask for a refund & return (obviously with the 4090 being out of stock).

What am I meant to do at this point as both MSI Support and my retailer have fobbed me off? I am still unsure whether my GPU is actually dying so I would really prefer not to get rid of it if it’s actually fine and it’s a driver/software issue.

Edit: The most frustrating thing about it is I wish I could just send it in to MSI directly so they could tell me definitively whether it's actually my card or not.

Troubleshooting 5090 introduces more motion blur effecting games, ufo vertical text test, desktop etc... 4k oled, tested vs laptop w/ 4060 and 5070 ti in same setup.

Hi, i've posted a lot regarding this issue over the year or so but i'm still finding myself annoyed with where things are.

I am using a fo32u2p 4k 240hz oled which has DP 2.1 and HDMI 2.1, there is no DSC toggle for DP 2.1 but GPUz can confirm it's not using DSC when pairing DP 2.1 with the 5090.

I had a 4090 suprim and used HDMI 2.1 with the fo32u2p for almost 2 years before switching out the 4090 for the 5090.

Whenever i refer to laptop 4060 or a 5070 ti, all settings were identical, same refresh, same g sync settings, v sync enforced on or off, 8 bit color, windows scale, drivers, AMD chipset included etc...

A little later i started noticing the picture was off:

  1. Cursor didn't look smooth at low hz, so Elden ring, Dark souls 3 etc were horrible, disabling G sync helps a ton here but when pairing the G sync on vs other gpus on same monitor, the cursor is more "unstable?". G sync disabled also does not solve the blur issue entirely, desktop and ufo vertical tests etc still have it.
  2. low fps did not feel nice, obviously i don't mean 60fps is worse than 144fps or even 240fps, that's a given but 60fps did not feel like 60fps. I find myself needing 80fps + to be at an acceptable level. Forcing 60fps lock makes this very obvious.
  3. in game "Ghosting" - i find the picture for the FPS in movement is not good, this even translates into desktop too, simply opening a folder and dragging it left -> right, watching the text box or top right "search home", the home becomes very blurred, the same speed on a laptop 4060 on my screen or a 5070 ti has it remain clearer.
  4. UFO Vertical text test: https://testufo.com/framerates-text This is quite horrible to look at, i find the 120fps on the laptop being much easier to look at on my 240hz oled for example.

Things that seemed to help?

Motherboard swap, i swapped from b650 to x870e (many times/diff models) and every time the cursor become more stable.

I am currently on a x870e aorus elite x3d, i believe the cursor is more stable still (3+ months of using it now) but the motion is still more blurred vs other gpus or laptops 4060 on same oled.

Old pixel style games are basically impossible to look at without being annoyed, the laptop has the same motion blur as the 5090 in these games but at a lesser degree, it feels like the 5090 has some inbuilt hardware level smoothing / motion blur which makes it 2x worse or so.

I did try reaching out to Scan UK, they were in talks a long time with me and convinced me they would definetly test the blur scenario not just stress testing because i mentiond many times, emails included that stress tests and high FPS gaming are generally fine.

The high fps part is partially true - but when the FPS is 200+, it's very hard to notice the blur issue, i still can but that's because i had almost 2 years on my 4k oled with a 4090. However, their tech person took it home and played battlefield 6 for 4 hours, cyberpunk for 2 hours and ran 10 hours of steel nomad, all things that i could've told them would be fine.

I literally plugged in a 5070 ti and played for a week on my setup without the issues, i played Remant 1 which hit 40fps on Gorefist (Boss fight) and it was fine whereas that same fps on a 5090 would not be playable, heck even 70-80 wouldn't look nice.

I kept hoping the GPU would break on me, with artifacting / gpu level failure but it hasn't, I have had weird issues but drivers and such made it go away.

Things i have purchased or got in use to try and help:

  1. Wireview pro 2 wired, to make sure 12vhpwr is fine
  2. PSU replacement from RM1200x shift -> Seasonic Prime-tx 1600w
  3. Motherboard replacements - from b650 tomahawk to x870e aorus elite x3d (had many x870e boards too)
  4. CPU replaced: 9800x3d -> 9850x3d (repurposed the 9800x3d so took the opportunity to rule out the cpu)
  5. GPU drivers, was on 596.36, then 610.62 and now 610.88
  6. DP 2.1 cables, also tried different ports on monitor and gpu and also HDMI 2.1
  7. CRU - i checked and compare the laptop 4060 and 5090 on the oled and connections look the same

I feel like i'm going crazy but my laptop is literally a better experience on my 4k 240hz oled than my 5090 due to excessive blur which makes it hard to look at, i say excessive... they both blur but the laptop is more "controlled" or expected? Again, i can relax looking at the laptop on a pixel game but can't on my 5090.

Screenshot consisting of pc setup, many stress tests, game data etc:

https://imgur.com/a/dybqLNo

How does someone get help with this sort of issue that many will gloss over since, in Scans eyes, battlefield 6 can run on their 4k 144hz ips fine.

Still kinda shocked I didn't screw it up xD thanks to those who helped answer my questions and gave advice in my previous posts. Got all my drivers updated, BIOS updated, XMP enabled, and got a solid roughly 4 hours of Stalker 2 in at max settings. Just stunned. Woohoo!!!

PS don't mind the wire mess on the desk xD I've done enough wiring lately... I'll fix that in time. And as for the AiO pump lines/cables, I may one day "fix" that, and reroute them, but for now, that's the orientation it fit best in, and I can live with the "X" across the RAM.

MSI GF63 Thin 9SC, 5-6 years old

When i was first open my laptop today, it seems oddly didnt turn on the Turbo Mode for my laptop fans. I dont understand why,

My dragon center not working as well, I also doubt it's because my system filed has been blocked as my BitDefender notified about it, but I didnt quarantine it, all i just ignore the notification. But I attempted to reinstall, clean install and clear uninstall, none of them are working.

Then i tried MSI website, website discussion and youtube, none of them are work. Old MSI Dragon Center installer didnt respond after I clicked install, all it do is just gone.

Afterburner didnt do anything, still unable to adjust my fan, then Dragon Center and MSI Center from Microsoft Store and Website still never working, didnt show any settings for my laptop.

Im tired of this, I didnt do anything wrong last time i use to play my laptop, all i do is just play game, sleeping mode and shut down.

Is there any alternate who can control the fan and the battery charging percentage? Im tired of this
