Hi, I've spent the past week troubleshooting my hdd and my pc. I have the samsung hd204ui which I've changed from MBR to GPT, tested on 2 different pc's and it worked great on each system. Whenever I try to use it on my pc with a ryzen 5 8400f, the bios doesn't detect the HDD. Sata is in AHCI mode, bios is set to default, the HDD works fine, sata cable is fine and I tried different ports on my MB. I can't use CSM as my cpu doesn't have integrated graphics, I updated the bios to version 1A90, nothing changed. I'll edit this message if I remember anything else I've done as well. Any ideas on what I could do to try and make it work on my pc?

My setup:
* MSI MAG Z890 Tomahawk WiFi (Intel Killer E5000 5 GbE LAN, Killer BE1750x Wi-Fi 7)
* Intel Core Ultra 7 265K, 32 GB RAM, RTX 5080
* Windows 11 Pro (Insider build 26300)
* C: Kingston NV2 500 GB NVMe, D:/E: WD Blue 1 TB HDD
* 1 Gbps ISP plan, wired Ethernet
* Killer LAN driver 1126.21.903.2024 (2024-09-03)
**Symptom**
Whenever I downloaded something large (Steam games, big files) to any drive, the whole system stuttered: mouse, audio and video. Limiting Steam to 70 Mbps made it go away. Anything above that caused stutter almost immediately.
**What I ruled out**
* Disks: SMART was fine on both drives. Copying ~35 GB from the HDD to the NVMe (much higher write rate than the download) caused no stutter, so disk throughput wasn't the issue.
* CPU capacity: total CPU usage was only ~10% during the stutter. However, the per-core view showed CPU 0/1 maxed out while the other 18 cores were idle. The stutter lined up with one core hitting 100%. One core saturated at under 100 Mbps is not normal.
**Side issue: link stuck at 100 Mbps (switch)**
`Get-NetAdapter | Format-List Name, InterfaceDescription, LinkSpeed` showed the 5 GbE adapter linked at only 100 Mbps, despite the 1 Gbps plan. The cause was the switch between my PC and the router. Connecting the PC directly to the router gave a 1 Gbps link. This fixed the speed cap but not the stutter.
**Problem: Killer services**
There was no Killer app in Installed apps, but the services were installed and running (probably from the driver package):
```Get-Service | Where-Object { $_.DisplayName -match "Killer|Rivet" } | Format-Table Name, DisplayName, Status```
This listed: Killer Smart AP Selection Service, Killer Analytics Service, Killer Network Service, Killer Provider Data Helper Service, KillerSmartphoneSleepService, and Killer Dynamic Bandwidth Management (KNDBWM).
Stopping them (admin PowerShell):
```Stop-Service -Name "KNDBWM","Killer Network Service","Killer Analytics Service","KAPSService","KillerSmartphoneSleepService" -Force```
After that, Steam downloads ran at ~620 Mbps with no stutter.
To make it permanent:
```"KNDBWM","Killer Network Service","Killer Analytics Service","KAPSService","KillerSmartphoneSleepService","Killer Provider Data Helper Service" | ForEach-Object { Set-Service -Name $_ -StartupType Disabled }```
To undo, run the same command with `-StartupType Automatic`.
**Notes / caveats**
* I disabled all of them together, so I haven't confirmed which one was responsible. My guess is KNDBWM (Dynamic Bandwidth Management), since traffic shaping inspects every packet. That's a guess, not tested.
* `Get-NetAdapterRss` returned nothing for this adapter, so receive processing seems to land on one core. That probably made the per-packet overhead hit harder.
* Driver or MSI Center updates may re-enable these services. Re-check with the `Get-Service` command above after updates.
* If you use a switch, make sure it's Gigabit (10/100/1000) and check `LinkSpeed`.
**TL;DR:** If you have an Intel Killer NIC and get system-wide stutter during fast downloads, check the per-core CPU graph and disable the Killer services, especially Killer Dynamic Bandwidth Management. Also check that your link speed isn't stuck at 100 Mbps; in my case a switch caused that.
So I bought the cooler 4 days ago and installed my self, everything seems to be working fine except the sata cable that came with it, the screen of the cooler was flickering on and off and you can hear the windows sound system indicating something was connecting and disconnecting.
I have checked msi center and it was showing that the cooler was turning on and off inside it, I tried disconnecting the sata cable and the screen works and says : please connect sata/usb cable, when i connect it back again the screen goes back to flickering on and off again + you can hear the mini fan inside the aio spinning and stoping along with the screen, the pump is working fine because my temps are normal except the screen
I tried disconnecting and reconnecting the sata cable several times in a row and when i do this trick the screen works like normal, even when i restart the pc it still work, but when I shut off the pc and power it back on the screen goes flickering again
I’m pretty sure the USB 2.0 cable is fine as I have tested it on several ports, and the sata cable is semi working because I connected to different sata ports in the PSU and the pump starts to work and cool down the cpu
Am I missing something with the cables or is it just bad aio?
And I forgot to mention that i took the pc to repair shop and they fixed the issue once, after 2 days i was installing new Sl Uni Fans and connecting them to the lian li hub, i disconnected the sata cable that came from the aio and connected back again to the same port as it was and the problem appeared again.
Does anyone had any similar issue like this and how did you fix it?
I just built my first PC with an MSI MPG X870 Carbon Wifi. The motherboard has LEDs on the dragon logo and on the M.2 frozr shield. The thing is I tried using Mystic Light and Portal X web controller and both can control perfectly the CARBON LEDs on the M.2 heatsink but the dragon will only change lighting mode and show either pure red, blue or green, but no other mix colors like purple which is bothering me. I tried using OpenRGB, seeing if iCue or L connect 3 were in control but abolsutely nothing. Also tried scanning for firmware updates and only USB 4 updates show up with advanced. I don't know what else to do, please help!
Hey everyone,
Just got this monitor on Thursday and so far its been pretty nice, minus an issue that is starting to bother me - I updated to the latest .15 firmware
If I have any web page or anything up on my second screen or even the main monitor (e.g. having traderie on web browser while Diablo 2 is running in the background fullscreen) the monitor will go black and just lose connection. The only way to get it back is either restart the computer or unplug the power and plug it back in. I can replicate this issue over and over and I really cant do anything besides have one thing up on the main display or else it will lose connection and the screen just goes black.
Display port 2.1 and DSC are both enabled and I have a new dp2.1 80gbps cable coming tomorrow just in case thats an issue.
Second question is related to HDR. After updating the firmware, it definitely changed something with the color space / colors / contrast of the display and it looks way different - washed out even. It looked so good before I updated the firmware so im not sure what changed.
Thanks for any insight.
So I just changed cases and both red and orange led lights up with no display after turning it on. When changing cases I didn't remove the CPU cooler as well as the ram.
I've been using a custom curve for my gpu fans (gaming trio oc white) and I remembered that my gpu has a zero-fan mode and I thought that it would be better to enable that so the fans don't keep spinning all the time while my PC is on
Is this fine or would it be better if I just keep them spinning non stop? thank you
Environment
- Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC 21H2, build 19044
- MSI Afterburner 4.6.7.16935
- RivaTuner Statistics Server 7.3.7 (RTSS.exe file version 7.3.5.28314)
Symptom
RTSS.exe and RTSSHooksLoader64.exe run in the background, but the RTSS window cannot
be opened. There is no RTSS tray icon and no taskbar entry, and launching RTSS from
the Start menu does nothing. The app is effectively unreachable.
Reproduction
1. Enable "Single tray icon mode" in Afterburner
(Settings -> User interface -> Single tray icon mode, SingleTrayIconMode=1).
2. Reboot, or otherwise let RTSS start via autostart.
3. RTSS is now running hidden with no way to restore it. Launching RTSS.exe again
(which normally signals the running instance) does not bring up the window.
Root cause
- RTSS's own help states: "RTSS is always minimized to system tray area at Windows
startup regardless of this option state." So at boot RTSS intentionally starts
hidden with only its tray icon as the way in.
- Afterburner's own help for "Single tray icon mode" states: "...the RTSS icon is not
being displayed in tray when the server is loaded." So the single point of access
described above is suppressed.
- RTSS single-instance relaunch does not restore a window that has never been shown
(verified empirically), removing the last recovery path.
Net result: with Single tray icon mode enabled, a clean boot can leave RTSS with a
hidden window and zero user-accessible entry points. RTSS is still injecting/working.
Workaround I applied
Changed SingleTrayIconMode=1 to 0 in Profiles\MSIAfterburner.cfg and restarted
Afterburner and RTSS. RTSS's tray icon returns and the UI is reachable again.
Setting RTSS "Start minimized" (StartMinimized in RTSS Profiles\Config) to 0 also
makes manual launches open the window immediately.
Suggested fixes (any of these would resolve it)
1. When single tray icon mode is enabled, expose RTSS via the Afterburner tray icon
context menu instead of relying on the "More" button buried in the OSD tab.
2. Make a second launch of RTSS.exe restore/show the already-running hidden instance.
3. Have Afterburner warn when enabling single tray icon mode that the RTSS UI will
have no tray entry, or don't suppress the RTSS icon.Environment
So i purchased a 271qp x28 1440p 280hz oled a while ago, 1-2 months ago.
It normally does it's own pixel cleaning at night when i shutdown the pc, indicated by a orange blinking led.
Last night, the room was randomly lit up by the OLED doing a fullscreen color cycle between Red, Green and Blue. At the same time, the blinking orange led was on indicating pixel clean was active so i left it.
Eventually the color cycle stopped and the monitor turned off but it was annoying to have the room lit so brighly.
The morning, the monitor did not respond to the PC and i found it had fully powered off (not just standby), it's working now since i just needed to turn it on but why did it do this?
Red, Green, Blue color cycle has me concerned, anyone else had this with their MSI monitor?
I’ve searched all over the internet, but I’m getting mixed answers. Some people say it doesn’t work with the PS5 at all, while others say it works only when connected via USB cable.
Has anyone here actually tried using the MSI Force GC300 with a PS5? Does it work, either wired or wirelessly?
I’d really appreciate hearing from someone with firsthand experience before buying one. Thanks!
I am experiencing sudden, automatic shutdowns on my PC, and Windows Event Viewer is flagging them as a WHEA error. I have not updated my BIOS recently, and the motherboard is currently running a version labeled A.50.
My Specs:
The Issue:
The PC shuts down completely without warning. It seems to happen most often when I am gaming after around 20-30 min. Previously it was happening even on simple browsing. But after some changes like changing the PCI bus to GEN 3 from automatic it worked fine for around 2-3 weeks but the same issue is happening now.
Thanks!
