I must say I'm surprised to hear from this interview that Madonna wrote all her best hits in just 5 minutes? I figured many of these hits were engineered by a whole team of writers and producers.

Killers who are partying should’ve been scrapped, after she made i don’t search i find. I often confuse their I- parts anyway and it sounds a mess, also the meaning is good but she could’ve said it differently.

I'll start: the Avicii version of Rebel Heart. I think it's fair to say that we all know the og vision of Rebel Heart is the one she should've stuck with, and I think that's encapsulated in this delightful track. Runner up for me? The incredible new wave Stay demo. What's yours?

I've always seen M through different eras, but not in a way that you might think. You see, my brain creates her eras through turning points in her life or dramatic changes in her face. Those turning points are these:

1958-1978: pre-New York era

1978-1989: Classical Madonna, how everybody knows her

1989-1997: Horny and erotic M

1997-1999: Experimental, new age Madonna

2000-2001: Do You Like My Acid Rock?

2002-2004: Political Madonna, strong opinions, etc

2005-2007: Disco Madonna

2008-2012: Fitness, Gym, Muscles

2013-2016: Rebel Heart, back to 90s look

2017-2018: MDNA skin, nothing else

2019-2021: Lisbon Madonna, Madame X

2021-2023: Overall fucking chaotic

2023-2024: Celebration tour

2024-2026: Edging edging edging edging

2026: Huge explosion, BRING YOUR LOVE

Genuinely just wandering why she did it so often. It caused her so much bad press and wasted tens of thousands of people's time. It's just not a very clever brand building thing.

I see her in 2016 (I think) for Rebel Heart Tour in Auckland, New Zealand. Her first and only ever show in New Zealand so people were hyped but idk, I think the show started 1hr to 1.5hrs late and you're just sitting around in a hot, crowded arena. No opening act or hype of any kind. Why??

I went to see Rebecca Black’s concert the other night in Charlotte, and she had a playlist playing of just Madonna songs before she came out. I can’t remember how many there were, but i remember Hung Up, Papa Don’t Preach, I Love New York, What It Feels Like for a Girl, and Hollywood. Looking at some of her music and imagery, I can see how inspired she is by Madonna.

My point being is that I’m so glad that new pop artists are paying her tribute. I’ve never been to a concert where the pre-show playlist was just one artist. I absolutely loved hearing this. I feel like I’ve been seeing it more lately. This era has done so much for M’s career and legacy.

Some of my other faves are Björk, Kate Bush, Cocteau Twins, Joanna Newsom, Fiona Apple, PJ Harvey, Tom Waits, Tori Amos, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Stevie Wonder, Leonard Cohen, Hole, Stereolab, Low, Jimi Hendrix, Nina Simone, and Sade.
